  • To calculate the fluid-structure interaction(FSI) problem rationally, it should be the basic technology to analyse each domain of fluid and structure accurately. In this paper, a new FSI analysis algorithm was introduced using the 3D solid finite element for structural analysis and CFD code based on the HCIB method for viscous flow analysis. The fluid and structural domain were analysed successively and alternatively in time domain. The structural domain was analysed by the Newmark-b direct time integration scheme using the pressure field calculated by the CFD code. The results for example calculation were compared with other research and it was shown that those coincided each other. So we can conclude that the developed algorithm can be applied to the general FSI problems.

  • A three-dimensional time-domain calculation method is of crucial importance in prediction of the motions and wave loads of a ship advancing in a severe irregular sea. The exact solution of the free surface wave-ship interaction problem is very complicated because of the essentially nonlinear boundary conditions. In this paper, an approximate body nonlinear approach based on the three-dimensional time-domain forward-speed free-surface Green function has been presented. The Froude-Krylov force and the hydrostatic restoring force are calculated over the instantaneous wetted surface of the ship while the forces due to the radiation and scattering potentials over the mean wetted surface. The time-domain radiation and scattering potentials have been obtained from a time invariant kernel of integral equations for the potentials which are discretized according to the second-order boundary element method (Hong and Hong 2008). The diffraction impulse-response functions of the Wigley seakeeping model advancing in transient head waves at various Froude numbers have been presented. A simulation of coupled heave-pitch motion of a long rectangular barge advancing in regular head waves of large amplitude has been carried out. Comparisons between the linear and the approximate body nonlinear numerical results of motions and wave loads of the barge at a nonzero Froude number have been made.

  • This study aims to develop a practical algorithm which can detect freezing of gait(FOG) in patients with Parkinson's disease(PD). Eighteen PD patients($68.8{\pm}11.1yrs.$) participated in this study, and three($68.7{\pm}4.0yrs.$) of them showed FOG. We suggested two time-domain algorithms(with 1-axis or 3-axes acceleration signals) and compared them with the frequency-domain algorithm in the literature. We measured the acceleration of left foot with a 3-axis accelerometer inserted at the insole of a shoe. In the time-domain method, the root-mean-square(RMS) acceleration was calculated in a moving window of 4s and FOG was defined as the periods during which RMS accelerations located within FOG range. The parameters in each algorithm were optimized for each subject using the simulated annealing method. The sensitivity and specificity were same, i.e., $89{\pm}8%$ for the time-domain method with 1-axis acceleration and were $91{\pm}7%$ and $90{\pm}8%$ for the time-domain method with 3-axes acceleration, respectively. Both performances were better in the time-domain methods than in the frequency-domain method although the results were statistically insignificant. The amount of calculation in the time-domain method was much smaller than in the frequency-domain method. Therefore it is expected that the suggested time domain algorithm would be advantageous in the systematic implementation of FOG detection.

  • The current on the thin planar structure as an element of the transversely fed electromagnetically coupled(EMC) microstrip dipole array antenna is obtained by using the integral forms of the finite difference time domain(FDTD) method. This method was applied to calculating the optimum current distribution (Doplh-Tchebyscheff distribution) of each dipole element on the feed line as a function of their offset positions for the narrow main beam width and the side beam level below -20 dB. The current on each dipole substitutes for the electric and magnetic current densities on the virtual surface of the FDTD calculation to express the far field intensity, the calculation time and the computer memeory can be reduced to about 80% and 1.3 Mbyte, respectively. The calculated radiation patterns are compared to the measured values and these are in good agreement.

  • In this paper, a method for the calculation of 2-dimensional interconnection capacitance for a multi-interconnection signal line in a dielectric region is presented. The numbers of dielectric layers and signal lines are arbitrary. To calculate the capacitance parameter, Boundary Element Method is used, and the dielectric interface and the surface of lines are divided into subsections. The advantages of BEM are small CPU-time and more exact solution due to the directly calculated values of capacitance only at the boundary of domain. It is adopted that the surface capacitance of each subsection assumed constant. The solution of surface charge density and capacitance parameter are calculated in a given domain.

  • In this paper, the efficient channel estimationschemes for DRM system(AM band digital radio broadcasting standard) are investigated. In frequency domain, by means of the linear interpolation, the second order interpolation, cubic spline interpolation, and time domain interpolation, the channel impulse response is estimated respectively to compensate the attenuation due to the fading. And in time domain, the frequency channel impulse response is averaged to reduce the attenuation due to the AWGN. By the simulation, the performance of MSE, BER and the complexity of calculation is compared and analysized for each interpolation scheme.

  • The wind tunnel test to identify the acoustic noise source position of the wind turbine blade was conducted in KARI low speed wind tunnel. Microphone array and time-domain beamforming methodology was applied to this study. To reduce the data processing time, a modified beamforming method with a criteria between calculation time step and grid size for rotating angle in the cylinderical coordinate system was proposed. The test results shows that the data processing time to identify the noise source position was reduced to 20% compared with conventional method. And the dominant noise source of the blade moves from inboard to blade tip as the frequency increases.

  • The finite volume time domain(FVTD) method gives accurate results for the calculation of electromagnetic wave propagation but it should be noted that the number of sampling points per wavelength should be increased when more accurate numerical results are required. Moreover it requires large amount of computer memory resources. In this paper we propose a modified FVTD that employs a time subdivision. The local time-subdivided FVTD(FVTD-LTS) method is enough to divide the space domain grid with a large step size. This method can reduce computation time and memory resources. To validate the proposed method, sever numerical examples are presented. We have then shown that the proposed method yields a reasonable solution.

  • In this paper, an iterative method to model the electromagnetic heating of electrically large lossy dielectrics is presented. Frequency domain finite element (FEM) solutions of the wave equation are determined for the lossy inhomogeneous dielectric as the material properties are change with temperature and time. The power absorbed from microwave losses is applied to a finite element time domain (FETD) calculation of the heat diffusion equation. Time steps appropriate for updating the piecewise material properties in the wave equation and the time stepping of the heat equation are presented. The effects of preheating and source frequency are investigated.

  • The monopole theory has long been used to model air-pumped effect from the elastic cavities in car tire. This approach models the change of an air as a piston moving backward and forward on a spring and equates local air movements exactly with the volume changes of the system. Thus, the monopole theory has a restricted domain of applicability due to the usual assumption of a small amplitude acoustic wave equation and acoustic monopole theory. This paper describes an approach to predict the air-pumping noise of a car ave with CFD/Kirchhoff integral method. The type groove is simply modeled as piston-cavity-sliding door geometry and with the aid of CFD technique flow properties in the groove of rolling car tyre are acquired. And these unsteady flow data are used as a air-pumping source in the next Cm calculation of full tyre-road geometry. Acoustic far field is predicted from Kirchhoff integral method by using unsteady flow data in space and time, which is provided by the CFD calculation of full tyre-road domain. This approach can cover the non-linearity of acoustic monopole theory with the aid of using Non-linear governing equation in CFD calculation. The method proposed in this paper is applied to the prediction of air-pumping noise of modeled car tyre and the predicted results are qualitatively compared with the experimental data.
