  • The author has experienced 50 cases of vocal nodules and polyps in our department for 3 years from May 1974 to April 1977. These nodules were removed out with laryngeal forcep under indirect laryngoscopy and maximum phonation time and timbre of the voice were analyzed before and after operation. Very shortened phonation time of the patient with vocal nodule has returned to normal range (Male : 30 seconds, Female: 20 seconds) and the voice timbre has recovered to almost normal voice postoperatively. The author has made a brief literature review.

  • Preference for music is determined by a variety of factors, and identifying characteristics that reflect specific factors is important for music recommendations. In this paper, we propose a method to extract the singing voice related music features reflecting various musical characteristics by using a model learned for singer identification. The model can be trained using a music source containing a background accompaniment, but it may provide degraded singer identification performance. In order to mitigate this problem, this study performs a preliminary work to separate the background accompaniment, and creates a data set composed of separated vocals by using the proven model structure that appeared in SiSEC, Signal Separation and Evaluation Campaign. Finally, we use the separated vocals to discover the singing voice related music features that reflect the singer's voice. We compare the effects of source separation against existing methods that use music source without source separation.

In the field of Culture Technology, Music by analyzing the characteristics of the development of a variety of applications has been studied. Associated with EEG measures and the results of their research in response to musical stimuli are used to detect and study is getting attention. In this paper, the musical stimuli in EEG signals by amplifying the corresponding reaction to the averaging method, ERP (Event-Related Potentials) experiments based on the process of extracting sound methods for removing noise from the ICA algorithm to extract the tone and noise removal according to the results are applied to analyze the characteristics of EEG.

  • In this paper, the tone of Daegeum, one of the most representative wind instruments of our country, was analyzed. Daegeum is widely used as Jeongak Daegeum and Sanjo Daegeum, which are played in royal and wind music, and Sanjo Daegeum is mainly played in Sanjo, Sinawi and folk music. The reason why the two pieces of music are being played in different music genres is due to the improvement of the length of the pipe and the location of the finger holes, allowing the Sanjo Daegeum to perform faster than Jeongak Daegeum, apply various techniques, and make the choice of musical instruments harmonized with music by making the difference in tone. For timber analysis of Jeongak Daegeum and Sanjo Daegeum, the composition of the overtones was visually verified through Spectrogram and Spectrum Analizer, in which the results of recordings were recorded by playing octave low, flat, and octave high positions with the same power. From this, Jeongak Daegeum, which is rich in low-pitched sound, harmonizes with solemn music such as royal music, and Sanjo Daegeum, which has a relatively clear high-pitched sound, is well suited to bright music such as solo music.

  • In this paper, we implemented a system that is called sound engine in musical synthesizer and synthesized a sound of Gayageum using TMS320C6713 DSK. Sound engine consists of two parts: synthesis algorithm and processor. We improved physical modeling using digital waveguide as a synthesis algorithm and we used TMS320C6713 as a processor. The excitation signals that make timbre are stored in memory. When we input parameters, sound engine synthesizes sound of Gayageum. The experimental result shows that synthesized sounds are very similar to real sounds.

  • In this paper we develop the software simulator written in a C language for a frequency modulation synthesis and the approximate range of parameters, for a musically satisfactory timbre, obtained by using the software simulator will be applied to develop an algorithm for parameter extraction. For a frequency modulation synthesis, we also develop an algorithm for parameter extraction through waveform analysis in the time domain as well as spectrum analysis using a FFT in the frequency domain. To verify the validity of the developed algorithm as well as software simulator experimentally, we extract parameters for the several music instruments using the suggested algorithm and analyze the synthesized sound by applying the parameters to the software simulator. The evaluation of the synthesized sound is first done by listening the sound directly as a subjective testing. Secondly, to evaluate the synthesized sound objectively with an engineering sense, we compare the synthesized sound with an original one in a time domain and a frequency domain.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the acoustic characteristics of sexy voice. In this study, we measured acoustic parameters (fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer, and nasalance) of a sustained vowel sound produced by 40 actors (20 males and 20 females) and 40 non-actors (20 males and 20 females). Digital audio recordings were made in the sustained vowel |a| for acoustic analyses using Praat (version 4.1.9) and Nasal View (version 4.5). Twenty voice pathologists participated in the listening experiment and judged the degree of sexiness on a 7-point scale. The results showed that fundamental frequency, shimmer and nasalance had significant differences between actors and non-actors. The acoustic parameters of sexy voice matched perceptual aspects of a previous study: Low fundamental frequency-low pitch and high shimmer-husky voice. On the other hand, the nasalance score did not match that of the previous study: Decreased nasalance had a higher score on sexiness scale judged by the listeners. It would be desirable to study the voice quality by analyzing and controlling more acoustic and auditory parameters for practical applications in the future.

  • This study aims to show a possibility that music can be expressed in an architectural way by attempting architectural interpretation and application of the musical piece, Beethoven Piano Sonata op.57 through analyzing it and to suggest a method for the architectural design where spirituality and internality is emphasized on the basis of music. In conclusion, it was clarified that the concept and form of the music could be expressed architecturally. That is, the concept of time and space in the musical piece is expressed in that of time; the musical form in that of the spacial structure; and the rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre and tone color of the musical piece in point, line, shape, texture and color in the architecture.

  • In this paper, we present a new echo kernel, which is a modification of polar echo kernel. to improve the detection performance and robustness against attacks. Polar echo kernel may take advantage of large detection margin from the polarity of inserted echo signal, but its poor frequency response in low frequency band degrades sound quality. To solve this problem, we applied bipolar echo pulses to the polar echo kernel. Using the proposed echo kernel the distributions of autocepstrum peaks fur data ‘0’ and ‘1’ are located more distant and improvement of detection performance is achieved. It also makes the low frequency band flat so that the timbre difference in the polar echo kernel can be removed to reproduce the imperceptible sound qualify. Informal listening tests as well as robustness test against attacks were performed to evaluate the proposed echo kernel. Experimental results demonstrated the superiority of the proposed echo kernel to both conventional unipolar and polar echo kernels
