  • In Special Concentrically Braced Frames (SCBFs), vertical and horizontal components of the brace force must be resisted by column and beam, respectively but normal force component existing at the gusset plate-to-column and beam interfaces, creates out-of-plane action making distortion in column and beam faces adjacent to the gusset plate. It is a main concern in Hollow Structural Section (HSS) columns and beams where their webs and gusset plate are not in the same plane. In this paper, a new gusset plate passing through the HSS columns and beams, named as through gusset plate, is proposed to study the force transfer mechanism in such gusset plates of SCBFs compared to the case with conventional gusset plates. For this purpose, twelve SCBFs with diagonal brace and HSS columns and twelve SCBFs with chevron brace and HSS columns and beams are considered. For each frame, two cases are considered, one with through gusset plates and the other with conventional ones. Based on numerical results, using through gusset plates prevents distortion and out-of-plane deformation at HSS column and beam faces adjacent to the gusset plate helping the entire column and beam cross-sections to resist respectively vertical and horizontal components of the brace force. Moreover, its application increases energy dissipation, lateral stiffness and strength around 28%, 40% and 32%, respectively, improving connection behavior and raising the resistance of the normal force components at the gusset plate-to-HSS column and beam interfaces to approximately 4 and 3.5 times, respectively. Finally, using such through gusset plates leads to better structural performance particularly for HSS columns and beams with larger width-to-thickness ratio elements.

  • The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about environmental severity and new social, economic, and cultural changes. Conscious fashion, which is oriented to sustainable and valuable consumption, has become a trend to consume products produced using eco-friendly and ethical processes, from the selection of the product materials to the manufacturing process. The purpose of this study is to identify the concepts and characteristics of conscious fashion and zero waste, and to explore design trends of zero wastein the new normal era of conscious fashion through the analysis of various cases. The research method is a literature review on conscious fashion based on relevant professional and academic books and articles, designer collections, and campaigns from 2010 to the present, when conscious fashion as eco-friendliness and sustainable fashion became a trend. The concept and characteristics of conscious fashion were examined them in terms of environmental, ethical, social, and cultural aspects and the concept and characteristics of zero waste through previous studies and case analysis. Through this, the trends of zero-waste design in conscious fashion were categorized into: first, an eco-friendly design orientation that utilizes reuse and reduce methods of clothing and fabric; second, a variable design orientation that practices zero waste designs by using diversity of patterns through deconstruction, disassembly, and various cutting methods. Third, long-term circulation of design through the recycling of resources by second-hand trade, the utilization of stock clothing, resale, and availability of eco-friendly materials through the development of new technologies. As an active practice for the sustainable fashion industry expands, it is expected that continuous research will be conducted as a future core value to realize the possibility of long-term circular zero-waste design through social responsibility and conscious recycling, reuse, and reproduction.

  • The space has been interpreted from various perspectives, such as hierarchical, cultural, economic, political factors, etc. So we can see the space as a social existence. Space is now being formed through the dialectical relations of these elements. From this point of view, this study started to research the spatial practice of morden people through the case in the early 20th century film. With the discourse of Henri Lefebvre and David Harvey, and Michel de Certeau's theory, this research tried to find the mechanisms of spatial practice. Also Benjamin is a philosopher who intervenes the relationship between modernity and cultural production and his way of reading cultural phenomena seems to serve as the useful methodology of cultural studies. Modern people were individual unawared of the era, awakened to the ego. They were wandering the room and the street, private and public places. They were city dwellers walking around, collecting goods, and living of everyday life. Spatial practice is a fixed activity and have continuity. spatial practice appeared in the early 20th century film is at the intersection of social practices and the practice of everyday life. Social practices are a fixed practice and continuous practice. The practices of everyday life are nomadic practice and amusable practice. Modern people accommodate and adapt to a given space of the city through fixed practice. They realizes the access and the distance from spaces through continuous practice. They select and approved the spaces through nomadic practice. And they possess exclusively and utilize the spaces through amusable practice. Through These research spatial practices, it could easily found similarities and differences between modern space on the early 20th century and contemporary space of 21st century. True modern is not the past but the present.

  • In this paper, when ac motors are driven by the diode rectifier/Z-source inverter system, the common-mode voltages of system are analyzed in details under both the shoot-through state and non-shoot-through state through equivalent circuits. Then a modified space vector modulation strategy is suggested for attenuating the negative common-mode voltage by eliminating the zero voltage vector, and also controlling the shoot-through time. Through the simulation studies with PSIM and experiments with 32-bit DSP, it is verified that the negative common-mode voltage can be reduced by more than 50%.

  • As the demand for distance education increases, it is necessary to present a problem solving path through a learning tracking algorithm in order to support the efficient learning of learners. In this paper, we proposed a problem solving path of various difficulty levels in various subjects by supplementing the existing learning tracking algorithm. Through the data set obtained through the path for solving the learner's problem, the path through the prim's minimum Spanning tree was secured, and the optimal problem solving path through the recursive neural network was suggested through the path data set. As a result of the performance evaluation of the contents proposed in this paper, it was confirmed that more than 52% of the test subjects included the problem solving path suggested in the problem solving process, and the problem solving time was also improved by more than 45%.

  • Based on three-dimensional (3-D) FE limit analyses, this paper estimates effect of internal pressure on plastic limit loads for elbows with circumferential through-wall crack under in-plane bending incorporating large geometry change effects. Circumferential through-wall crack in extrados is considered. The FE limit analyses using the large geometry change option provide plastic collapse loads (using the twice-elastic-slope method). For the bending mode, closing bending is considered. Other relevant variables affecting plastic limit loads are systematically varied, related to pipe bend geometry (the mean radius, thickness and bend curvature) and defect geometry (the length of circumferential through-wall crack).

  • This paper has comparatively analyzed the characteristics of the machined surface of a specimen made by machining Die Steel STD11 and a specimen obtained by W-EDM steel. If a press die is manufactured through W-EDM, products of shapes that cannot easily be made through machining can be manufactured easily. However, the life of the press die is significantly reduced compared with the press die made through machining. This is believed to be caused by the deformed layer that has occurred on the surface of the press die that was made through W-EDM. The roughness of the 2 specimens was measured, and it was learned that the distribution of the roughness of the specimen made through the 1st W-EDM was rough.

  • Though the physical environment of life through technological evolution has rapidly improved, the quality of life due to a variety of undesirable environmental issues has been seriously damaging. This study has tried to suggest the positive & sustainable direction of space design which can contribute to improving the quality of human lives by reviving 'place property' which a site itself has, trying to analyze the recycling space which the sustainability has been applied to in a true sense. For this cause, we've tried to draw four 'methods of realizing place property' such as meeting a site, understanding a site, finding the identity of a site, and adding novelty to a site through advanced research. I've tried to suggest the design direction for reviving space which can relieve the artificial aspect of design with pursuing the co-existence with nature on the foundation of realizing 'place property' through case analysis selected on the basis of this, and can express the 'sustainability' through environment-friendly space structures & high efficiency of its function.

  • It was the purpose of this study to investigate the fracture mode of dental amalgam by observing the crack propagation, and to relate this to the microstructure of the amalgam. Caulk 20th Century Regular, Caulk Spherical, Dispersalloy, and Tytin amalgam alloys were used for this study. After each amalgam alloy and Hg measured exactly by the balance was triturated by the mechanical amalgamator (Capmaster, S.S. White), the triturated mass was inserted into the cylindrical metal mold which was 4 mm in diameter and 12 mm in height and was pressed by the Instron Universal Testing Machine at the speed of 1mm/min with 120Kg. The specimen removed from the mold was stored in the room temperature for a week. This specimen was polished with the emery papers from #100 to #200 and finally on the polishing cloth with 0.06${\mu}Al_2O_3$ powder suspended in water. The specimen was placed on the Instron testing machine in the method similar to the diametral tensile test and loaded at the crosshead speed of 0.05mm/min. The load was stopped short of fracture. The cracks on the polished surface of specimen was examined with scanning electron microscope (JSM-35) and analyzed by EPMA (Electron probe microanalyzer). The following results were obtained. 1. In low copper lathe-cut amalgam, the crack went through the voids and ${\gamma}_2$ phase, through the ${\gamma}_1$ phase around the ${\gamma}$ particles. 2. In low copper spherical amalgam, it was observed that the crack passed through the ${\gamma}_2$ and ${\gamma}_1$ phase, and through the boundary between the ${\gamma}_1$ and ${\gamma}$ phase. 3. In high copper dispersant (Dispersalloy) amalgam, the crack was found to propagate at the interface between the ${\gamma}_1$ matrix and reaction ring around the dispersant (Ag-Cu) particles, and to pass through the Ag-Sn particles. 4. In high copper single composition (Tytin) amalgam, the crack went through the ${\gamma}_1$ matrix between ${\eta}$ crystals, and through the unreacted alloy particle (core).

  • The purpose of this study was to comparatively analyze the kinematic variables between the squash backhand and racquetball backhand strokes through three-dimensional cinematography. Three expert racquetball players and three expert squash players were involved in the data gathering process. The horizontal, vertical and lateral displacement of racket and trunk segment, intersegmental angular velocity of the wrist, elbow and shoulder joints, and the linear velocity of the racket were descriptively analyzed, and the followings were concluded. The racket of the squash backhand stroke showed an 'U' shaped movement where the racket moved rapidly downward and moved forward to make an impact and followed through to a front-top finish, while the racket of racquetball backhand stroke showed an 'O' shaped movement where the racket showed circular movement through the rear and bottom positions for the impact, and showed rotation through the lower-front and upper front to a upper-rear-ward finish during the follow-through. The peak velocity of racket was found before the impact point in the squash backhand stroke and at the impact point in the racquetball backhand stroke. For the final conclusion, for the squash backhand stoke, instructors might be better to make the racket move downward to make highest velocity before the impact and finished short follow-through, while for the racquetball backhand stroke, to make the racket move forward to make highest velocity at the impact and finished rather long follow-through.
