Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) based on IEEE 802.11s have emerged as one of the prominent technologies in multi-hop communications. However, the deployment of WMNs suffers from serious interference problem which severely limits the system capacity. Using multiple radios for each mesh router over multiple channels, the interference can be reduced and improve system capacity. Nevertheless, interference cannot be completely eliminated due to the limited number of available channels. An effective approach to mitigate interference is to apply dynamic channel switching (DCS) in WMNs. Conventional DCS schemes trigger channel switching if interference is detected or exceeds a predefined threshold which might cause unnecessary channel switching and long protocol overheads. In this paper, a P-learning based dynamic switching algorithm known as learning automaton (LA)-based DCS algorithm is proposed. Initially, an optimal channel for communicating node pairs is determined through the learning process. Then, a novel switching metric is introduced in our LA-based DCS algorithm to avoid unnecessary initialization of channel switching. Hence, the proposed LA-based DCS algorithm enables each pair of communicating mesh nodes to communicate over the least loaded channels and consequently improve network performance.

We study the paper Zhernovyi and Zhernovyi [Zhernovyi, K.Y. and Y.V. Zhernovyi, "An $M^{\Theta}/G/1/m$ system with two-threshold hysteresis strategy of service intensity switching," Journal of Communications and Electronics, Vol.12, No.2(2012), pp.127-140]. In the paper, authors used the Korolyuk potential method to obtain the stationary queue length distribution. Instead, our note makes an attempt to apply the most frequently used methods : the embedded Markov chain and the supplementary variable method. We derive the queue length distribution at a customer's departure epoch and then at an arbitrary epoch.

In this paper, a new overload control scheme is proposed for a control system in ATM switching system. The proposed control scheme includes a counter that conunts the number of accepted calls and is decreased at cach D time interval. In overload condition of call processor, the control scheme detects over load condition when the counter value reaches a certain threshold value. Under overload condition, processor utilization is measured and the value of the D is updataed according to the difference between measured processor utilization and target utilization. A new call is accepted accepted only if the value of the counter is less than the threshold value. In overflow condition of cell traffic, accept probability of new call is reduced exponetially according to the elapsed time. The results of simulation show that the proposed overload contorl scheme maintains the target utilization very well under the various processor overload conditions and reduces the cell loss probability under the cell overflow conditions.

We have studied the influence of rubbing angles with respect to in-plane field direction on electro-optic characteristics of in-plane switching (IPS) liquid crystal display. The results show that the threshold voltage increases and the operational voltage decreases as the rubbing angle increases. Further, the total response time and also response times associated with grey-to-grey transitions become fast as the rubbing angle decreases.

Proton irradiation technology was used for improvement of switching characteristics of the PT-IGBT. Proton irradiation was carried out at 5.56 MeV energy with $1{\times}10^{12}/cm^2$ doze from the back side of the wafer. Characterization of the device was performed by I-V, breakdown voltage, threshold voltage, and turn-off delay time measurement. For irradiated device by 5.56 MeV energy, the breakdown voltage and the threshold voltage were 730 V and 6.5~6.6 V, respectively. The turn-off time has been reduced to 170 ns, which was original $6\;{\mu}s$ for the un-irradiated device.

The report reviews recent research efforts in demonstrating a computing system whose operation principle mimics the dynamics of biological neurons. The temporal variation of the membrane potential of neurons is one of the key features that contribute to the information processing in the brain. We first summarize the neuron models that explain the experimentally observed change in the membrane potential. The function of ion channels is briefly introduced to understand such change from the molecular viewpoint. Dedicated circuits that can simulate the neuronal dynamics have been developed to reproduce the charging and discharging dynamics of neurons depending on the input ionic current from presynaptic neurons. Key elements include volatile memristors that can undergo volatile resistance switching depending on the voltage bias. This behavior called the threshold switching has been utilized to reproduce the spikes observed in the biological neurons. Various types of threshold switch have been applied in a different configuration in the hardware demonstration of neurons. Recent studies revealed that the memristor-based circuits could provide energy and space efficient options for the demonstration of neurons using the innate physical properties of materials compared to the options demonstrated with the conventional complementary metal-oxide-semiconductors (CMOS).

MEMS(micro electro-mechanical systems) inertial switch which is applicable to the ignition Safe-Arm- Unit of propulsion system is devised. The MEMS inertial switch is designed according to the general design procedure for conventional mechanical elements. Unlikely conventional MEMS accelerometer, threshold inertial switching mechanism is adopted which makes a MEMS element an abrupt switching in a certain acceleration level. By comparing the design data and test results of the specimen a small discrepancy in switching acceleration level is found which is presumably due to the nonlinear characteristics of the beam spring and the flexure hinge which are the main parts of the MEMS inertial switch.

In this paper, we propose a scheme that can control the loss probability of low priority class bursts by dynamically adjusting the assembly threshold of low priority class. The key ideas is that the loss Probability of the longer burst increases as the load increases, thus reduced low priority class burst length decreases the loss priority at high traffic load. To achieve this aim, we first derive the relation among the loss probability, the assembly threshold, and the traffic load. In this paper we derive the relation by curve fitting on the simulation results. The ingress edge routers periodically or by event-driven receives the proper corresponding assembly threshold information from the core routers. This assembly threshold is calculated from the derived relation so that the required loss probability of the low priority class bursts in the network is satisfied. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme performs well to meet the loss probability target as expected.

In the modern society, the use of digital equipment is increasing along with the 4th industrial revolution, and the importance of image and signal processing is increasing. At the same time, research on noise reduction is being actively conducted. In this paper, we propose a switching filter algorithm for random-valued impulse noise cancellation. The proposed algorithm obtains the threshold value by determining the noise level present in the image, and threshold value is compared with the difference between the input pixel value and the reference value, and is used in the weight switching process of the filter. The final output of the filter is estimated by applying a pixel weight and a modified weight median filter according to the switching, and obtains a final output by comparing the estimated value with the input pixel value. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we compared it with the existing methods using simulation and PSNR.

An accurate and efficient gradient estimation method on unstructured grid is presented by proposing a switching process between two Least-Square methods. Diverse test cases show that the gradient estimation by Least-Square methods exhibit better characteristics compared to Green-Gauss approach. Based on the investigation, switching between the two Least-Square methods, whose merit complements each other, is pursued. The condition number of the Least-Square matrix is adopted as the switching criterion, because it shows clear correlation with the gradient error, and it can be easily calculated from the geometric information of the grid. To illustrate switching process on general grid, condition number is analyzed using stencil vectors and trigonometric relations. Then, the threshold of switching criterion is established. Finally, the capability of Switching Weighted Least-Square method is demonstrated through various two- and three-dimensional applications.
