  • This study examined the change of artifact volume by analyzing the level of image change associated with the setting of threshold through 3D imaging in scan parameter(slice thickness and helical pitch) and 3D image reconstruction to explore whether the presence of pathology was fully distinguished when CT was taken by lower dose than the existent dose to reduce exposure. Furthermore, this study attempted to investigate Scan Parameter acceptable in CT to reduce exposure dose. For materials and methods, silicon was used to produce samples. Five spherical samples were produced at 10-millimeter intervals(50, 40, 30, 20, and 10 mm) in diameter and were fixed at 120 Kvp of tube voltage and 50 mA of tube current. Varied slab thickness((1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 5.0, and 7.0mm) and Helical Pitch(1.5, 2.0, 3.0) were scanned. The image at an interval of 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 5.0, and 7.0mm was transmitted to the workstation. Threshold(-200, -50, 50 ~ 1,000) was changed using the volume rendering technique, 3D image was reconstructed, and artifact volume was measured. In conclusion, 1.5 of Helical Pitch showed the least change of volume and 3.0 of helical pitch showed the greatest reduction of volume change. The experiment suggested that as slice thickness was increased, artifact volume was decreased more than actual measurement. Furthermore, in the 3D image reconstruction, when the range of threshold was set as -200 ~1,000, artifact volume was changed the least. Based on the results, it is expected to have an effect of reducing exposure dose.

  • The effects of polarity of the polymer on transcription-aligned twisted nematic (TN)-liquid crystal display (LCD) on various the polyimide (PI) surfaces were investigated. The monodomain alignment of nematic (N)LC is obtained in cells fabricated by transcription alignment method on PI surface with medium polarity. The LC alignment using transcription alignment method is attributed to polarity of the polymer. The threshold voltage of transcription-aligned TN-LCD decreases with increasing the polarity of the polymer on three kinds of the PI surfaces. The threshold voltage of transcription-aligned TN-LCD on PI surface with high polarity is almost the same compared to rubbing-aligned TN-LCD. The response time of transcription-aligned TN-LCD decreases with the increasing the polarity of the polymer on all PI surfaces. The decay time of transcription-aligned TN-LCD is slow compared with the rubbing-aligned TN-LCD.

  • Thin-film transistors (TFTs) were fabricated using amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide (a-IGZO) channels by rf-magnetron sputtering at room temperature. We have studied the effect of oxygen partial pressure on the threshold voltage($V_{th}$) of a-IGZO TFTs. Interestingly, the $V_{th}$ value of the oxide TFTs are slightly shifted in the positive direction due to increasing $O_2$ ratio from 1.2 to 1.8%. The device performance is significantly affected by varying $O_2$ ratio, which is closely related with oxygen vacancies provide the needed free carriers for electrical conduction.

  • Recently, a new method called the local polynomial periodogram-Hough transform (LHT) was proposed for linear frequency modulated (LFM) signal detection. In this letter, a closed-form expression of the output signal-to-noise ratio is derived for the LHT, showing that the method exhibits a threshold effect for LFM signal detection. Comparisons with the pseudo-Wigner-Hough transform (PWHT) show that the threshold of the LHT is lower (better) than that of the PWHT.

  • A numerical simulation of brushless DC motor is performed to elucidate thermo-flow characteristics in winding and bearing with heat generation. Rotation of rotor and blades drives influx of ambient air into the rotor inlet. Recirculation zone exists in the tiny interfaces between windings. The flow separation causes poor cooling performance in bearing part and therefore the redesign of the bearing groove is required. The design parameters such as the inlet location, geometry and bearing groove threshold angle have been selected in the present simulation. As the inlet location moves inward in the radial direction, total incoming flow rate and heat transfer rate are increased. Total incoming flow rate is increased with increasing the inlet inner length. The effect of the bearing groove threshold angle on the thermal performance is less than that of other design parameters.

  • The effect of post weld heat treatment (P.W.H.T) on the propagation rate of stress corrosion cracking(S.C.C) and threshold stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}.c.c$) for stress corrosion cracking of 304 stainless steel has been investigated in boiling 45% $MgCl_2$ solutions with W.O.L specimens. Specimens were precracked by turning a pair of Cr-Mo steel bolts into a machined slot at the end of the specimen. The fracture surface was examined fractographically by Scanning Electron Microscope(S.E.M.)

  • The OTFT devices had inverted staggered structures of Au/pentacene/ppMMA/ITO on PET substrate. The overall device performances of the flexible devices such as the operating voltage, the field effect mobility, the on/off ratio and the off current are somewhat worse than those of devices fabricated on glass substrates. Pentacene/ppMMA OTFT benchmarks (mobility, sub-threshold slope, on/off ratio) were comparable to that of solution cast PMMA, but below average when compared to other polymer gate dielectrics. However, threshold and drive voltages were among the lowest reported for a polymer gate dielectric, and surpassed only by ultra-thin SAM gate dielectrics.

  • This paper presents the new method for removing impulse noise using wavelet. Time and frequency-localization capabilities in denoising can provide excellent specialties comparing with the existing methods, because of including detail information of signal. The method in this paper, using denoising by threshold and slope of signal by wavelet, has superior denoising effect and can recognize edge of original signal. For objective judgement, the test signals are used HeaviSine and DTMF and this paper simulated by test signals which have added to impulse noise of different site individually.

  • A series of studies in monkeys and hamsters, and reevaluation of published human data, indicate that dietary saturated fatty acids exert a dissimilar metabolic impact on cholesterol metabolism. Myristic acid(14 : 0) appears to have a major cholesterol-raising effect by means of decreasing LDL receptor activity and by increasing the direct production of LDL (from sources other than VLDL-catabolism) Palmitic acid (16 : 0) appears neutral in most cases (plasma cholesterol<200mg/dl) or until the LDL receptor is down-regulated, as with high cholesterol intake or obesity. In such cases. the down-regulated LDL receptors coupled with an increased VLDL production (induced by 16 : 0 and 18 : 1) can divert VLDL remnants to LDL and expand the LDL pool. Furthermore. the cholesterolemic impact of any saturated fatty acid can be countered up to a saturable 'threshold' level by dietary linoleic acid (18 : 2) which up-regulates the LDL receptor. Once above this 'threshold' the major fatty acids (16 : 0, 18 : 0, 18 : 1, 18 : 2, 18 : 3) appear to exert an equal impact on the circulating cholesterol concentration.

  • This paper reports the electrical characteristics of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVPy) and the performance of organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) with PVPy as a gate insulator. PVPy shows a dielectric constant of about 3 and contributes to the upright growth of pentacene molecules with $15.3\AA$ interplanar spacing. OTFT with PVPy exhibited a field-effect mobility of 0.23 $cm^2$/Vs in the saturation regime and a threshold voltage of -12.7 V. It is notable that there was hardly any threshold voltage shift in the gate voltage sweep direction. Based on this reliable evidence, PVPy is proposed as a new gate insulator for reliable and high-performance OTFTs.
