The terminal voltage of a synchronous generator is maintained by the field current control of excitation system Generally AC/DC converter which is component of AVR(Automatic Voltage Regulator) system for excitation current control is connected to diode rectifier and DC/DC converter system In the case of diode rectifier system of phase controlled converter, AC/DC converter has low power factor and some low order harmonics in the line current. In this paper, two-stage three-phase PWM AC/DC converter is studied to solve these problems, The proposed method is verified by the computer simulations and experimental results in prototype generation system.
This paper proposes the controller design for a stability improvement of an on-board battery charger. The system is comprised of a power factor correction (PFC) circuit and phase shift full-bridge DC-DC converter. The PFC circuit performs the control of the DC-link voltage and the input power factor. The DC-DC converter regulates the voltage and the current in the battery using the DC-link voltage. This paper proposes the design method of PI controller for the PFC circuit using a small signal model. The analysis and design of a type-three controller for the DC-DC converter is also presented. A simulation and experiment has been performed on the on-board battery charger and their results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed system.
A solid state transformer (SST) that can interface an MVAC of three-phase 13.2 kV and a 1.5 kV DC distribution. SST consists of an AC/DC converter and a DC/DC converter with a high-frequency isolation transformer (HFIT). The AC/DC converter consists of cascaded NPC full-bridge to cope with the MVAC. The DC/DC converter applies a quad active bridge (QAB) topology to reduce the number of the HFIT. Topology analysis and controller design for this specific structure are discussed. In addition, the insulation of HFIT used in DC/DC converters is considered. The discussion is validated using a 300 kVA three-phase SST prototype.
This paper proposes a three-phase single-stage AC-DC converter for the small wind generation system. Input power factor improvement and insulated output can be implemented with the proposed three-phase single-stage AC-DC converter under the wide power generation voltage (80-260 Vac) and frequency (10-42 Hz) in a small wind power generation (WPG) system. The proposed converter is also capable of zero-voltage switching in the primary-side switches and zero-current switching in the secondary-side diodes by phase-shift control at a fixed switching frequency. In addition, it is possible to control a wide output voltage (Vo: 39 VDC-60 VDC) by varying the link voltage and improving the input power factor (PF) and the total harmonic distortion factor (THDi). Simulation and experimental results verified the validity of the proposed converter.
Most of the DC loads have had the sensitive characteristics electrically for input voltage. In this system, power converter is operated after connecting with DC loads to minimize the overshoot of the control voltage that may occur during connection of the loads. But whenever starting the power converter, parameters in circuit are different because power converter has been connected with diverse load types at each startup time. This is cause of a disadvantage to PI controller design of power converter. In this paper, the novel voltage control method using sliding mode control theory has proposed. This control method minimizes the overshoot of control voltage at startup of power converter. Despite the variations of the system parameters, the proposed voltage controller has fast response and robustness characteristics such as PI and sliding mode controllers. The proposed controller was applied to the three-phase AC/DC converter and each performance of controller was verified.
In this paper a high efficiency bi-directional DC-DC converter for hybrid vehicles is proposed. The proposed converter a three-phase half-bridge interleaved ZVS converter, is designed to have high efficiency in the main operation range. The component ratings are calculated, the actual devices are selected, and the efficiency analysis has been performed to determine optimal ZVS range. The input and output current ripples are significantly reduced due to the interleaved operation. The dual loop control for the interleaved three-phase converter is also presented. To confirm the proposed convert ter, The simulation and experimental results are presented.
This paper presents a novel three-phase current-fed Pulse Width Modulation converter with switched capacitor type resonant DC link commutation circuit operating PWM pattern strategy under a design consideration of low-pass filter, which can operate on the basis of the principle of zero current soft switching commutation. In the first place, the steady state operating principle of this converter with a new resonant DC link snubber circuit is described in connection with the equivalent operation circuit, together with the practical design procedure of the switched-capacitor type resonant DC link circuit is discussed from a theoretical viewpoint on the basis of a design example for high-power applications. The actively delayed time correction method to compensate distorted currents due to a relatively long resonant commutation time is newly implemented in the open loop control scheme so as to acquire the new optimum PWM pattern. Finally, the experiment of set-up in laboratory system of this converter is concretely demonstrated herein to confirm a zero current soft-switching commutation of this converter. The comparative evaluations between current-fed hard switching PWM and soft-switching PWM converters are carried out from a viewpoint of their PWM converter characteristics.
In this paper, a three-phase AC-DC high step-up converter is developed for application to microscale wind-power generation systems. Such an AC-DC boost converter prossessess the property of the single-switch high step-up DC-DC structure. For power factor correction, the advanced half-stage converter is operated under the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). Simulatanously, to achieve a high step-up voltage gain, the back half-stage functions in the continuous conduction mode (CCM). A high voltage gain can be obtained by use of an output-capacitor mass and a coupled inductor. Compared to the output voltage, the voltage stress is decreased on the switch. To lessen the conducting losses, a low rated voltage and small conductive resistance MOSFETs are adopted. In addition, the coupled inductor retrieves the leakage-inductor energy. The operation principle and steady-state behavior are analyzed, and a prototype hardware circuit is realized to verify the performance of the proposed converter.
A new control method of three phase converter without measuring input phase-voltage and DC-link voltage is proposed. Input phase-voltage of these required voltages is estimated using EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) and DC-link voltage is estimated from the measured line currents and the estimated input phase-voltage. This control method is achieved without PLL(Phase Locked Loop) which senses the angle of input phase-voltage and DC-link voltage sensor. In addition, the proposed method controls high power factor and DC-link voltage utilizing the estimated phase angle. This paper describes the effectiveness of the proposed estimated algorithm through simulations.
