  • A study on indigenous diatoms was carried out at 71 sites during the period from April 1999 to August 2014 in marine and fresh water in Korea. Forty species of diatoms are new to Korea and they are divided into three classes, six subclasses, 13 orders, 19 families, and 28 genera. The nomenclatures, references, dimensions, specimens examined, local habitat, distribution in Korea, and photograph are reported here. The 40 species found in marine and fresh water showed speciesspecific habitats.

  • This paper interprets the Seongho/s ergonomec philosophy in terms of contemporary view of ergonomics, which appears in 'ichuck' of Seongho Sasul written in 1760's. The content of Jichuck is largely composed of three parts such as the proportions of human body dimensions, numerical examples, and the principles and method of clothes edsign. Some parts of human body proportions are tested and compared with Woodson's criteria and anthropometric data suggested by Korea Standards Research Institute in 1986. Concludingly, it is revealed that the ancient Seongho's ergonomic philosophy is regarded as apporopriate, and 'saji(4 fingers width)' is more reasonable for criterion of human body proportions.

  • It is becoming increasingly clear that eukaryotic genomes are subjected to higher-order chromatin organization by the CCCTC-binding factor/cohesin complex. Their dynamic interactions in three dimensions within the nucleus regulate gene transcription by changing the chromatin architecture. Such spatial genomic organization is functionally important for the spatial disposition of chromosomes to control cell fate during development and differentiation. Thus, the dysregulation of proper long-range chromatin interactions may influence the development of tumorigenesis and cancer progression.

  • A comparative transient analyses were performed for oxide and nitride cores or a large (3000 MWt), pool-type, liquid-metal-cooled reactor (LMR). The study was focused on three representative accident initiators with failure to scram : the unprotected loss-of-flow (ULOF), the unprotected transient overpower (UTOP), and the unprotected fast transient overpower (UFTOP). The margins to fuel melting and sodium boiling have been evaluated for these representative transients. The results show that there is an increase in safety margin with nitride core which maintains the physical dimensions of the oxide core.

  • The main objective of this study was to find urban housewives' expenditure behavior type. For this objective 4 dimensions of income expenditure behavior were classified with factor analysis and correlation coefficient and then cluster analysis was implemented. Subjects were housewives living in Seoul. As a result, three income expenditure behavior type were defined. They were type of high interested in income expenditure, time oriented type, and money oriented type.

  • This paper presents a method of the optimum design for rotating shaft of centrifugal pump. That is, the object is to optimize the system in stability at the operating speed, unbalance response in the vicinity of the rotor critical speed, leakage flow of the seals. The objective function is composed of these three elements and is minimized by changing seal cleareance, diamoters, and lengths. A typical double suction centrifugal pump is analyzed and its objective function is presented. Then the optimum dimensions of seals are obtained, and vibration characteristics at both initial and optimum conditions are investigated.

  • The laser tracking system(LTS) presents the most promising technique for dynamic position measurement of industrial robots. This system combine the advantage of high accuracy with a contactless measurement technique. It is the measurement system of position in three dimensions using distance data obtained by laser interferometer and real time angle by tracking mirror assembly. After measuring the tracking error of the beam projected on the center of retroreflector in robot end effector, this system tracks the end effector continuously by adjusting tracking mirror angle to minimize this error ...

  • This study presents an effect of number of passes in wire-cut electric discharge machining on fine blanking dies and products. Three part fine blanking dies were produced by the difference of numbers of passes discharge machining. Brake pad was produced, through the die produced like that, the objective of this study is the improvement in surface roughness of die block and punch, life extension of die block, the decrease of second fracture dimensions, the rise of productive.

  • We often extract a new feature from the original features for the purpose of reducing the dimensions of feature space and better classification. In this paper, we show feature extraction method based on independent component analysis can be used for classification. Entropy and mutual information are used for the selection of ordered features. Performance of classification based on independent component analysis is compared with principal component analysis for three real data sets.

  • This paper describes the influence of conducting particle within the coaxial cylindrical electrodes gap under alternating voltage condition investigated using charge simulation method. If the conducting particles precent in the gas insulated system, they can cause decrement of breakdown voltage. Thus, three dimensions computations of electric fields and electrostatic forces have been carried out according to particle location. The results show a good agreement with those of outside country, which can offer a practical reference on the insulation design of domestic GIS.
