  • A method of generation boundary layer mesh has been presented. This paper describes the generation of semi-unstructured prismatic/tetrahedral meshes for three-dimensional geometries with thin thickness. By of fretting of surface triangle elements prismatic/tetrahedral meshes are generated and using the node relocation method of this research intersected meshes can be efficiently improved. Finally tetrahedral meshes are automatically generated at the rest of the domain. Sample meshes are constructed to demonstrate the mesh generating capability of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a new predictive coding scheme for color data of three-dimensional (3-D) mesh models. We exploit connectivity and geometry information to improve coding efficiency. After ordering all vertices in a 3-D mesh model with a vertex traversal technique, we employ a geometry predictor to compress the color data. The predicted color can be acquired by a weighted sum of reconstructed colors for adjacent vertices using both angles and distances between the current vertex and adjacent vertices.

  • In this study, a mathematical model for flaw with silt protector is proposed that adds a second-order energy loss term in the momentum equation. The three-dimensional numerical model was developed based on mathematical models and verified through comparison with flume test results. Loss coefficients were evaluated through the flume tests and applied to the numerical model. It was found through the investigation of various example cases that the downstream flow pattern was affected mainly by penetration of the silt curtain, not by the approach velocity, and also that the blocking effect of velocity was increased by the increase in mesh density of the silt curtain, below a certain mesh density. The blocking effect did not increase further above a certain mesh density.

  • In this paper, finite element simulation of three-dimensional bulk metal forming processes is performed by an automated adaptive tetrahedral mesh generation scheme. A dynamic data exchange scheme is employed between tetrahedral mesh generator and forging simulator to minimize user intervention. Both number of elements and density distributions are controlled by the octree technique. The presented approach is applied to automatic forging simulation in order to evaluate the efficiency of the developed schemes and the simulation results are compared with $DEFORM^{TM}$.

  • A superhydrophobic mesh is a unique structure that blocks water, while allowing gases, sound waves, and energy to pass through the holes in the mesh. This mesh is used in various devices, such as gas- and energy-permeable waterproof membranes for underwater sensors and electronic devices. However, it is difficult to fabricate micro- and nano-structures on three-dimensional surfaces, such as the cylindrical surface of a wire mesh. In this research, we successfully produced a superhydrophobic water-repellent mesh with a high contact angle (> $150^{\circ}$) for nanofibrous structures. Conducting polymer (CP) composite nanofibers were evenly coated on a stainless steel mesh surface, to create a superhydrophobic mesh with a pore size of $100{\mu}m$. The nanofiber structure could be controlled by the deposition time. As the deposition time increased, a high-density, hierarchical nanofiber structure was deposited on the mesh. The mesh surface was then coated with Teflon, to reduce the surface energy. The fabricated mesh had a static water contact angle of $163^{\circ}$, and a water-pressure resistance of 1.92 kPa.

  • This paper describes to extend the fast algorithm fur the capacitance extraction of large three-dimensional object. The triangular meshes are used and refined adaptively in the area where the heavy charges reside in each iterative solving. This technique is applied to the capacitance extraction of a 68-pin cerquad package. The results show fast convergence, and this adaptive technique coupled with the fast algorithm is efficient to reduce the number of elements and computing time with least additional computational efforts in large three dimensional problems.

  • A form-finding technique is proposed for three-dimensional spatial structures. Two-step discrete finite element (FE) mesh generator based on computer aided geometric design (CAGD) is introduced and used to control the shape of three-dimensional spatial structures. Mathematical programming technique is adopted to search new forms (or shapes) of spatial structures. For this purpose, the strain energy is introduced as the objective function to be minimized and the initial volume (or the initial weight) is considered as constraint function. Numerical examples are carried out to test the capability of the proposed form-finding techniques and provided as benchmark tests.

  • This paper presents a mesh refinement scheme for 3-D adaptive finite element method. Firstly, the refinement of triangular meshes based on the bisection of triangles is discussed. And a new method to refine tetrahedral meshes employing the bisection method is presented. In two dimensional cases, it has been noted that all angles in the triangular meshes refined by the bisection method are greater than or equal to half the smallest angle in the original meshes. Through the examples where the newly proposed method is applied to three dimensional cases, it is shown that regarding the solid angles, the method gives nearly the same result as that in the two dimensional case. Accordingly, it can be concluded that the proposed method will be useful in the mesh refinements for 3-D adaptive finite element method.

  • With continued miniaturization and development of new devices, the highly nonuniform oxidation of three-dimensional non-planar silicon structures plays an increasingly important role. In this paper, the three-dimensional finite element numerical simulator. Grwoth of oxide is a coupled process of diffusion of oxidant and deformation of oxide. Because boundaries of oxide are moved in each time step and LOCOS structure is formed three-dimensional shape of sruface, it is necessary to develope an efficient node control algorithm that can locally generate and eliminate the node. Therefore we have developed the optimized three-dimensional mesh generator which is cpable of refining and eliminating the meshes at the moving boundary of oxide, and hve developed three-dimensional finite element oxidation solver.

  • This paper proposes a hexahedral mesh generation scheme based on mapping approach and improves the drawback of sweeping algorithm. In order to improve the drawback, the algorithm in this paper generates hexahedral meshes by three dimensional element mapping first. Then hexahedral meshes are equivalent to geometry of the volume by mapping and smoothing. Sample meshes are constructed to demonstrate the mesh generating capability of the proposed algorithm.
