Most LV customers have been applying three-phase four-wire electric distribution system which supplies 1-phase and 3-phase load concurrently. Due to its structural simplicity, This system is easy to run. But it can also cause many problems from the unbalance, such as reduced output, increased loss etc. Also the unbalance in the load side causes the unbalance in the source side; it may lower the stability of the whole power system. In this paper, we propose the Y-Tz transformer winding method to reduce the current unbalance in the source side. Efficiency of this method was proven through the simulation and verification experiment.
Mathematical singularities of circuit equations with three-phase ideal transformer connections are studied. Three-wired wye-wye connections, delta-delta connections, and primary four-wired wye-delta connections are singular. The matrices of their circuit equations have zeros in their eigenvalues. Three-wired wye-delta connections, wye-wye-delta connections, and primary four-wired wye-wye connections are not singular. The physical meaning of their singularities is that they are sensitive and prone to be ill-conditioned. Equivalent shunt admittances representing ion losses and magnetizing inductances make the singular matrices non-singular in wye-connected circuits. And, equivalent series impedances representing copper losses and leakage inductances make the singular matrices non-singular in delta-connected circuits. The tableau analysis is used for the study.
Three phase full bridge rectifier has been used to obtain dc voltage from three phase ac voltage source. The rectifier system has drawbacks that power factor is low and power flow is unidirectional. Therefore, when dc voltage increases due to regeneration of power the dynamic resister for dissipation of regeneration power must be installed. But three phase PWM converter can be controlled to operate with unity power factor and bidirectional power flow. Therefore when the PWM converter is used as do supply system, the dissipating resistor is not necessary. On this thesis, in order to design a controller having good performance, the hee phase PWM converter is completely modeled by using circuit DQ-transformation and thus a general and simple instructive equivalent circuit is obtained; the inductor set becomes a second order gyrator-coupled system and three phase inverter becomes a transformer as well. Under given phase angle(${\alpha}$) and modulation index(MI) of the three phase inverter, the dc and ac characteristics are obtained by analysis of the transformed equivalent circuit The validity of the equivalent circuit is confirmed through PSPICE simulation. And based on the dc and ac characteristics a controller with unity power factor is proposed.
This paper proposes the structure of a smart transformer to improve the performance of the 60Hz main power transformer for rolling stock. The proposed smart transformer is a kind of solid state transformer that consists of semiconductor switching devices and high frequency transformers. This smart transformer would have smaller size than the conventional 60Hz main transformer for rolling stock, making it possible to operate AC electrified track efficiently by power factor control. The proposed structure employs a cascade H-Bridge converter to interface with the high voltage AC single phase grid as the rectifier part. Each H-Bridge converter in the rectifier part is connected by a Dual-Active-Bridge (DAB) converter to generate an isolated low voltage DC output source of the system. Because the AC voltage in the train system is a kind of medium voltage, the number of the modules would be several tens. To control the entire smart transformer, the inner DC voltage of the modules, the AC input current, and the output DC voltage must be controlled instantaneously. In this paper, a control algorithm to operate the proposed structure is suggested and confirmed through computer simulation.
In order to provide a source for nine phases suitable for 18-pulse ac to dc power, this paper proposes a new structure for a step-up asymmetrical delta-connected transformer for converting three-phase ac power to nine-phase ac power. The design allows for symmetry between the nine output voltages to improve the power quality of the supply current and to minimize the THD. The results show that this new structure proves the equality between the output voltages with $40^{\circ}-{\alpha}$ and $40^{\circ}+{\alpha}$ phase shifting and produces symmetrical output currents. This result in the elimination of harmonics in the network current and provides a simulated THD that is equal to 5.12 %. An experimental prototype of the step-up asymmetrical delta-autotransformer is developed in the laboratory and the obtained results give a network current with a THD that is equal to 5.35%. Furthermore, a finite element analysis with a 3D magnetic field model is made based on the dimensions of the 4kVA, 400 V laboratory prototype three-phase with three-limb delta-autotransformer with a six-stacked-core in each limb. The magnetic distribution flux, field intensity and magnetic energy are carried out under open-circuit operation or load-loss.
A novel three-phase four-wire inverter topology is presented in this paper. This topology is equipped with a special capacitor balance grid without magnetic saturation. In response to unbalanced load and unequal split DC-link capacitors problems, a qusi-full-bridge DC/DC topology is applied in the balance grid. By using a high-frequency transformer, the energy transfer within the two split dc-link capacitors is realized. The novel topology makes the voltage across two split dc-link capacitors balanced so that the neutral point voltage ripple is inhibited. Under the condition of a stable neutral point voltage, the three-phase four-wire inverter can be equivalent to three independent single phase inverters. As a result, the three-phase inverter can produce symmetrical voltage waves with an unbalanced load. To avoid forward transformer magnetic saturation, the voltages of the primary and secondary windings are controlled to reverse once during each switching period. Furthermore, an improved mode chosen operating principle for this novel topology is designed and analyzed in detail. The simulated results verified the feasibility of this topology and an experimental inverter has been built to test the power quality produced by this topology. Finally, simulation results verify that the novel topology can effectively improve the inhibition of an inverter with a three-phase unbalanced load while decreasing the value of the split capacitor.
The main purpose of the UPS is to supply independent and stable power to connected equipment. In installing and operating the UPS system, songle module, three phase UPS in more benefit than multi module, songle phase UPS in the point of volume and cost. However, when supplying Rectifier with output power form three phase UPS, by connecting auto-transformer, occurred harmonic and ripple current makes output filter damaged and leads to nonlinear current coasted by unbalance load. Therefor, in this paper the aim of concentring compound-wound transformer and harmonic filter is supplying liner current by reducing harmonic and ripple current and improving unbalance in voltage and distortion in current wave.

In this paper, a bidirectional three-phase push pull converter is analyzed for the high power, wide voltage range applications. From comparison analysis of two switching methods: PWM plus phase-shift (PPS) and dual-asymmetric PWM (DAPWM) with the effect of dead-time, the proposed hybrid control is aimed to reduce the circulating current under wide voltage range operation. Value of leakage inductance effect to the peak current value, current stress and conduction loss in facing the load variation. Trade-off between power range and slew rate of transformer current was analyzed for properly selecting value of the transformer leakage inductance. Experimental results from a 22-kW prototype are provided to validate the proposed concept.

The conventional three-level high frequency phase-shifted dc/dc converter has a disadvantage that a circulating current flows through transformer and switching devices during the freewheeling interval.. Due to this circulating current and RMS current stress, conduction losses of transformer and switching devices increases. To alleviate these problems, we propose an improved three-level Zero Voltage and Zero Current Switching (ZVZCS) dc/dc converter using a tapped inductor, a snubber capacitor and two snubber diodes attached at the secondary side of transformer. The proposed ZVZCS converter is verified on a 7㎾, 30KHz experimental prototype.

1MVA high temperature superconducting (HTS) transformer with double pancake windings made of BSCCO-2223 HTS tapes was designed and manufactured. And prototype transformer with the same capacity was manufactured also. The each rated voltage of the HTS transformer is 22.9 kV and 6.6 kV. Four parallel BSCCO-2223 HTS tapes were wound in the double pancake windings of low voltage side. In order to distribute the currents equally in each HTS tapes, the three times transposition was performed between the double pancake windings. The windings of prototype transformer were wound using copper tape with the same size as BSCCO-2223 HTS tape. The core of the transformer was designed and manufactured as a shell type core made of laminated silicon steel plate. The several characteristics tests for the prototype transformer were performed in liquid nitrogen and insulation tests were accomplished also.
