The studies of superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) for reduction of the fault current are actively underway in the worldwide. In this paper, we analyzed the characteristics of a new type SFCL using the conventional transformer and superconducting elements combined mutually. The secondary and third windings of this SFCL were connected the load and the superconducting element, respectively. The electric power was provided to load connected to secondary windings of the transformer in normal state of power system. On the other hand, when the fault occurred in power system, the fault current was limited by closing the line of third winding of the transformer. At this time, the ripple phenomenon of the fault was minimized by opening the fault line in secondary winding of a transformer in power system. The sensing of the fault state was performed by the CT(current transformer) and then turn-on and turn-off switching behavior of the SFCL was performed by the SCR(silicon-controlled rectifier). As a result, the proposed SFCL limited the fault current within a half-cycle efficiently. We confirmed that the fault current limitation rate was changed according to the winding ratio of a transformer.
In high field (> 3 T) MR imaging, the magnetic field inhomogeneity in the target object increases due to the nonuniform electro-magnetic characteristics and relatively high Larmor frequency. Especially in the body imaging, the effect causes more serious problems resulting in locally high SAR(Specific Absorption Ratio). In this paper, we propose an optimized parallel-transmission RF coil element structure and show the utility of the coil by FDTD simulations to overcome the unwanted effects. Three types of TX coil elements are tested to maximize the efficiency and their driving patterns(amplitude and phase) optimized to have adequate field homogeneity, proper SAR level, and sufficient field strength. For the proposed coil element of 25 cm ${\times}$ 8 cm loop structure with 12 channels for a 3.0 T body coil, the 73% field non-uniformity without optimization was reduced to about 26% after optimization of driving patterns. The experimental as well as simulation results show the utility of the proposed parallel driving scheme is clinically useful for (ultra) high field MRI.

Laying hens were fed commercial diets added with supplemented fat (SFAT) at 0.6, 1.2, and 1.8% in order to study the long term dietary effects - on - their productive performance from 22 to 75 wk of age. Five hundred and seventy six Single Comb White Leghorn hens were assigned to one of the four dietary treatments. The experimental phase consisted of three periods of 18 wk each. The final body weight and gain of hens fed on diets with SFAT at 1.2% and 1.8% were lower (p<0.05) than those hens given no SFAT. The SFAT at the 1.2% and 1.8% levels improved egg production rate, egg weight and mass, as well as FCR. Mortality and feed consumption were not affected by dietary SFAT. Administration of a diet with SFAT significantly decreased the cracked-broken egg ratio (p<0.01). The beneficial effects of SFAT on egg production performance were particularly more pronounced at intermediate and later ages. Hence, SFAT by period interactions were significant for all traits studied except feed intake. Hens fed SFAT deposited significantly higher abdominal fat than those on the no-SFAT diet. As a result, SFAT at 1.2% and 1.8% inclusion levels provided benefits in terms of efficient table egg production.
Simple spanwise distribution models of deviation angle and pressure loss coefficient due to the tip leakage flow are formulated for use in association with the streamline curvature method as a flow analysis. Combining these new models with the previous deviation and loss models due to secondary flow, a robust streamline curvature method is established for flow analysis of single-stage, subsonic axial turbines with wide ranges of turning angle, aspect ratio and blading type. At the exit from rotor rows, the flow variables are mixed radially according to a spanwise transport equation. The proposed streamline curvature method is tested against a forced vortex type turbine as well as a free vortex type one. The results show that the spanwise variations of flow angle, axial velocity and loss coefficients at rotor exit are predicted with good accuracy, being comparable to a steady three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis. This simple and fast flow analysis is found to be very useful for the turbine design at the initial design phase.
Phase separation and low cetane number are the main barriers to the large-scale use of ethanol-diesel blend fuel on small diesel engines. In this paper, an additive package is designed on the basis of the blended fuel properties to overcome these limitations. The experiments show that the solubility of ethanol in diesel is evidently increased by adding $1{\sim}2%$ (in volume) of the additive package and the flammability of ethanol-diesel blend fuel with the additive has reached the neat diesel level under the cold start conditions. Effects of the ethanol content in diesel on fuel economy, combustion characteristics, and emission characteristics are also investigated with the ethanol blend ratios of 10%, 20% and 30%. The increase in ethanol content shows that the specific fuel consumption and the brake thermal efficiency are both gradually increased compared to neat diesel. The soot concentrations of the three blended fuels are all greatly lower than that of neat diesel. $NO_x$ emission is increased with an increase in the engine load and is reduced with the increase in the ethanol blend ratio under a high load.
The detail simulation modeling of fully-fed induction generator is investigated through PC based MATLAB/Simulink environment. Generator's stator currents are controlled by indirect vector control method. In this method, generator side converter controls the maximum excitation (air gap flux) by stator d-axis current and controls generator torque by stator q-axis current. Induction generator speed is controlled by tip speed ratio (TSR) upon the wind speed variations in order to generate the maximum output power. The generator torque model is specified as a 3-blade wind turbine with rating, then, the model is simulated under normal operating condition and three different fault conditions. The matlab model designed for fully-fed induction generator based wind farm provides good performance under normal and grid fault conditions. It provides good results for different pwm techniques and fault conditions except the single-phase line to ground fault, which should be verified with real time data from wind farms.
14-3-3 is a highly conserved, ubiquitously expressed protein family. It associates with diverse cellular proteins through its specific phosphoserine/phosphothreonine-binding activity and thus contributes to the regulation of crucial cellular processes such as metabolism, signal transduction, cell-cycle control, apoptosis, protein trafficking, transcription and stress responses. This study aims to determine changes in levels of 14-3-3 isoforms and 14-3-3 - associated proteins in Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori)-infected gastric epithelial AGS cells. AGS cells were stimulated with H. pylori(NCTC 11637) at the ratio of 300:1(bacterium:cell). Western blot analysis revealed that 14-3-3 $\sigma$ was elevated at 3 hr after H. pylori treatment. Other isoforms were not significantly affected by H. pylori infection. Using immunoprecipitation to 14-3-3 $\sigma$, followed by proteomic analysis, we found that S phase kinase associated protein isoform 2 bound to 14-3-3 $\sigma$ has increased. In contrast, three proteins (DEAD-box polypeptide 3, heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein H2 and WD repeat-containing protein isoform 1) bound to 14-3-3 decreased by H. pylori infection. Our results suggest that 14-3-3 may play an important regulatory role in H. pylori-induced signal transduction in gastric epithelial cells.
This paper presents a method of the voltage-reactive power control in the long and short range operations and introduces a conception, "optimum control pattern." The optimum control pattern, aiming at the over-all system control, is defined as the optimum voltage distribution which minimizes the system operating cost under the conditions that the specified power be supplied and the system voltage be kept within the specified bounds. The following procedure was adopted to obtain this optimum pattern. In the first place, a power system was divided into three blocks, namely, load, substation and generator. Lagrange's, multiplier method is applied to each block in turn, paying attention only at the operating voltage distribution. Phase angles at each bus are then modified so that the continuity of active power is maintained. This procedure may be called "block relaxation method with Lagrange's multipliers." In a long range operation, this control pattern determines the optimum installation capacity of reactive power sources. In a short range operation, it also gives the reference state of real time control and the optimum switching capacity of reactive power souces. The real time control problem is also studied from the standpoint of cooperation of control devices such as generators, shunt capacitors, shunt reactors and ratio load controllers. A proposal for the real time control will contribute to the automation of power system operation in the near future. in the near future.
The surge motion of a freely-floating sphere in a regular wave is studied within the framework of a linear potential theory. The fluid is assumed to be perfect and only the steady-state harmonic motion in a water of infinite depth is considered. A velocity potential describing the fluid motion is decomposed into three parts; the incident wave potential, the diffraction potential and the radiation potential. In this paper the diffraction potential and the radiation potential are analysed by using multipole expansion method. Upon calculating pressures over the immersed surface of the sphere, the hydrodynamic forces are evaluated in terms of Froude-Krylov, diffraction, added mass and damping forces as functions of the frequency of the incident wave. Finally the frequency dependence of two pertinent parameters, the amplitude ratio and the phase lag between the motion of the sphere and that of the incident wave is derived from the equation of motion. As for numerical results the general tendency of the present calculation shows good agreement with Kim's work who also treated this problem utilizing the Green's function method.
The effect of plastic board drains (PBDs)on ground improvement was checked out considering three crucial factors: ground settlement, undrained shear strength, and residual water head. First, the settlement analysis including initial settlement induced by reclamation of sand mat was conducted by back calculation analysis with measured data. Its result showed toot the PBDs used for this site worked well on improving soft ground. Secondly, the undrained shear strength was investigated by laboratory and in-situ tests including unconsolidated-undrained triaxial compression (UU) tests, unconfined compression tests, in-situ vane tests, and cone penetration tests. From the test results, they showed that the undrained shear strength of the improved ground by PBDs was significantly increased as well as the strength increasing ratio especially $10{\sim}15m$ below the ground surface on site. Thirdly, the residual water head measurement from the in situ dissipation test was found the same as the static water head, which indicated primary consolidation was completed and the effect of soil improvement with PBDs can be confirmed.
