  • The purpose of this study was to find the sociopsychological factors influencing the compliance of dietary regimen in diabetes by using focus group interviews. The data were collected from fifty three diabetes patients in eleven focus groups from September 1997 to March , 1998 in Seoul and Suwon Korea. The interviews were tape-recorded and the contents of the interviews were analysed by researchers. The subjects knew the causes, complications, and therapies of diabetes although they were incorrect at times . Patients had a wide range of outcome expectations from very optimistic to pessimistic. They recognized diabetes as a disease which needs life-time care, and they though that good care could provide a normal life. One the other hand they thought diabetes could lead to death through complications, and cause financial problems as well as social isolation. As for self-efficacy they recognized the importance of compliance to diet regimen but they thought the diet therapy was very difficult and were not very willing to follow it. They felt medical professionals, especially doctors, were influential for the therapies. However they frequently felt counselling provided by doctors was insufficient in time and content and led to attitude problems. They felt support from families and others was often insufficient and inadequate. Nutrition education fostering outcome expectation, social support, and self-efficacy is needed to increased compliance. The most influential referents were medical professional including doctors, nurses, dieticians, so their role in diet therapy should by emphasized.

Findings and results of the investigation are as follows. 1. Treatise on Physiology("全體新論") excited a deeper interest among the Chinese literati and was so eagerly sought after that a reprint of it was made for sale. The income of works of Hobson's probably excited a deeper interest among the Korean literati also. 2. We found Hobson had written many works. Among those we must pay attention to A Medical Vocabulary in English and Chinese("醫學英華字釋"). Through this book we can reach agreeable translation of "ShinGiCheonHeom". 3. Evangelism and philanthropism promoted activities of Hobson as a doctor and as a an introducer of western medicine. But ignorance of oriental medicine-Hobson thought medical science in China was at a low level-lied in these activities and passion to do it. Nowadays we must wipe out thought of this way through the scientific way.

  • We compared the texts of the two types of military books, 『Mubiji』 and 『Yungsalyujeom (戎事類占)』. In this research, it is proved that Lee-Jema transcribed a segment on martial mantic in 『Mubiji (武備志)』 which is a book on military studies and named it 「Jipungjo (知風兆)」 since he had practical interest in military affairs. Lee-Jema had been serving as a military officer when his peculiar thought was beginning to unfold and maintained his interest in military affairs until his latter years. It is necessary to take a military studies based approach to comprehend Lee-Jema's thought since military affairs had great influence on his life.

  • The purpose of this study is to scrutinize forefathers' standpoint on architectural planning by peering into their literature. Dongkukyisangkukjib which contains works about daily life of Lee Gyu-Bo, a great writer in the middle of Koryo, reveals well people of Koryo' thought on architecture, if we have a interest in a building space. The book holds his general viewpoint on architecture and documents about the remarkable houses he and his friends visited. Then we can know, through it, general thought on architecture of the upper classes in those days. Lee Gyu-Bo considered a house the other self of its owner and connected buildings with personality of their owner. 0 architectural process and architectural planning, buildings were shown variously by reflecting owner's value on architecture. Unlike Chosun era, people of Koryo prefer unlimited thinking to form or order. Therefore in construction especially such as a pavilion, there were many experimental tries which reflected owners' thought. Particularly we could estimate people of Koryo' conception of architectural design through a work of Lee Gyu-Bo, Saryunjungky, a document about a pavilion carrying four wheels, which describes concretely contents of architectural planning such as a planning of space, module, and intention.

  • This result showed that the middle school students' response for the environment condition was highly negative. The major findings of this study are as follows. 1. Students would become to know the environmental pollution through reading of newspapers and TV rather than school education. 2. Students' response for air and water pollution was seriously accepted in city areas than in country areas, and in large cities than in small cities. 3. Students' response for air pollution showed that the quality of air was getting worse and major factor of air pollution was the exhausts of automobiles. 4. It showed that students' concern for water pollution was increased and water pollution was being accelerated by the increase of domestic and industrial sewages, the overuse of the agricultural chemicals, the entrophication and acid rain. 5. Students thought that soil pollution was mainly due to factory sewage, life sewage, heavy metal and agricultural medicines and so on. But now they think it is due to the degenerated and inseparable things such as used vinyle for farm and plastics. 6. Most students thought of the pollution of our country as serious. But they thought it could be removed if we tried to get rid of pollution. 7. Now students' consciousness to protect the nature took an active interest turn and was strong. Putting these various findings together, I suggested that, the efforts to turn students affirmative consciousness for the environment and a powerful plan by the nation to take off pollution should be needed. Also the education to enforce the environment preservation had to be needed.
