  • This research investigates the composites reinforced with fiberglass to wood and commercial particleboard using VARTM process to enhance the mechanical properties. Specimens were prepared from lumbers from thinning crop-trees and commercial particleboard. Matched specimen were reinforced on both sides with one layer of unidirectional fiberglass roving. Fiberglass reinforcement to wood and particleboard using VARTM process improved mechanical properties.

  • For multi-stage deep drawing process including ironing operation and biaxial forming in this study, tool developments are achieved, and the developed tool sets are applied to experimental investigations. In process and tool designs, a contact condition between intermediate blank and lower die is considered as the sequential one. In this study, the material used is cold-rolled thin sheet (SPCE) with the initial thickness of 0.4mm. From the experimental approaches, several failures such as tearing, localized thickening and thinning, are observed. To solve these failures, the contact surface on the lower die is modified. As the experimental results by applying the modified lower die, it is investigated that the failures are not occurred, and the excessive deformation behavior due to the thinning and thickening effects are decreased. Furthermore, the thickness distributions on the major axis and the minor axis of each intermediate blank are investigated to be already satisfied the target (ironing) thickness, respectively. By this systematic approach, it is confirmed that the experimental results show good agreements with the designed and required configuration of each deformed and final products.

  • For navigation of a service robot, mapping and localization are very important. To estimate the robot pose, the map of the environment is required and it can be built by exploration or SLAM. Exploration is the fundamental task of guiding a robot autonomously during mapping such that it covers the entire environment with its sensors. In this paper, an efficient exploration scheme based on the position probability of the end nodes of a topological map is proposed. In this scheme, a topological map is constructed in real time using the thinning-based approach. The robot then updates the position probability of each end node maintaining its position at the current location based on the Bayesian update rule using the range data. From this probability, the robot can determine whether or not it needs to visit the specific end node to examine the environment around this node. Various experiments show that the proposed exploration scheme can perform exploration more efficiently than other schemes in that, in most cases, exploration for the entire environment can be completed without directly visiting everywhere in the environment.

  • After collecting the scanned images of practical identification licenses, it is attained to more accurate recognition of numbers in the identification licenses. As considering the process speed of the preprocess course for recognition, first, it is divided into eight equal parts of the identification license and then, removed the hologram of correspondent noises. It is run parallel template comparison method and teaming method for the number recognition and in order to extract a simple characteristics of the number the clustering method is used. Also, in case of misrecognized number because of external environment by run parallel with the thinning method, similar each numbers is sectioned by unique characteristics. From the results of number recognition, it is confirmed that the recognition rate of numbers is superior to other Studies.

  • Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of laser-assisted zona thinning (LAZT) at one or four-points on the blastocyst formation and hatching process in mice with respect to female age. Methods: Eight-cell or morula embryos collected from superovulated C57BL female mice with different ages (6-11 and 28-31 weeks) were treated with LAZT at one-point (LAZT1) or four-points (LAZT4). The zona pellucida was thinned to more than 70% of its initial thickness by making two holes of $15-20{\mu}m$. Results: In the young mice, LAZT resulted in a significant increase in early hatching and hatching rates compared to the control group (p<0.05). However, in the old mice, LAZT significantly increased blastocyst formation as well as early hatching and hatching compared to the controls (p<0.05). These effects were more remarkable in LAZT4 than in LAZT1 and in aged mice than in young ones. Conclusion: These results show that multi-point LAZT leads to a significant improvement of blastocyst formation and hatching in mice compared to controls.

  • Conventional methods of automatic recognition of Korean characters consist of the thinning processing, the segmentation of connected fundamental phonemes and the recognition of each fundamental character. These methods, however require the thinning processing which is complex and time consuming. Also several noise components make worse effects on the recognition of characters than in the case of no thinning. This paper describes the extraction method of the feature components of Korean fundamental characters of the Gothic Korean letter without the thinning. We regard line-components of the contour which describes the character's external boundary as the feature-components. The line-component includes the directional code, the length and the start point in the image. Each fundamental character is represented by the string of directional codes. Therefore the recognition process is only the string pattern matching. We use the Gothic-hangul in the experiment. The ecognition rate is 92%.

  • This paper describes on thinning SDB SOI substrates by SDB technology and Electro-chemical etch-stop. The surface of the fabricated SDB SOI substrates is more uniform than that grinding or polishing by mechanical method, and this process is possible to accurate SOI thickness control. During Electrochemical etch-stop, leakage current versus voltage curves were measured for analysis of the open current potential (OCP) point and the passivation potential (PP) poin and determinated to anodic passivation potential. The surface roughness and selectively controlled thickness of the fabricated SOI substrates were analyzed by using AFM and SEM, respectively.

  • In order to show the efficiency and accuracy of an expert drawbead model, finite element simulations of auto-body panel stampings are carried out. For numerical modeling of the drawbead of a panel die, the drawbead restraining force and bead-exit thinning calculated by the expert model are imposed to a node nearest to the drawbead position as a boundary condition, Finite element simulations show that the expert model provides the accurate solution, guarantees the stable convergence, and has the merit in the computation time.

  • The fluid flow, mass transfer, heat transfer and film thickness variation during the spin coating process are numerically studied. The model is said to be 1-dimensional because radial variations in film thickness, concentration and temperature are ignored. The finite difference method is employed to solve the equations that are simplified using the similarity transformation. In early time film thinning is due to the radial convective outflow. However that slows during the first seconds of spinning so the film thinning due to evaporation of solvent becomes sole. The time various film thickness is analyzed according to the var ious solvent fraction in the coating liquid and in the bulk of the overlying gas and the temperature variation in the liquid film during the spin coating is estimated.
