Effects of bipolar pulse driving frequency between 50 kHz and 250 kHz on the discharge shapes were analyzed by measuring plasma characteristics by OES (Optical Emission Spectroscopy) and Langmuir probe. Plasma characteristics were modeled by a simple electric field analysis and fluid plasma modeling. Discharge shapes by a continuous dc and bipolar pulsed dc were different as a dome-type and a vertical column-type at the cathode. From OES, the intensity of 811.5 nm wavelength, the one of the main peaks of Ar, decreased to about 43% from a continuous dc to 100 kHz. For increasing from 100 kHz to 250 kHz, the intensity of 811.5 nm wavelength also decreased by 46%. The electron density decreased by 74% and the electron temperature increased by 36% at the specific position due to the smaller and denser discharge shape for increasing pulse frequency. Through the numerical analysis, the negative glow shape of a continuous dc were similar to the electric potential distribution by FEM (Finite Element Method). For the bipolar pulsed dc, we found that the electron temperature increased to maximum 10 eV due to the voltage spikes by the fast electron acceleration generated in pre-sheath. This may induce the electrons and ions from plasma to increase the energetic substrate bombardment for the dense thin film growth.

Ni/Al ('/' denotes deposition sequence) contacts were deposited on Al-implanted 4H-SiC for ohmic contact formation, and the conduction properties were characterized and compared with those of Ni-only contacts. The thicknesses of the Ni and Al thin film were 30 nm and 300 nm, respectively, and the films were sequentially deposited bye-beam evaporation without vacuum breaking. Rapid thermal anneal (RTA) temperature was varied as follows : $840^{\circ}C$, $890^{\circ}C$, and $940^{\circ}C$. The specific contact resistivity of the Ni contact was about $^{\sim}2\;{\pm}\;10^{-2}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, However, with the addition of Al overlayer, the specific contact resistivity decreased to about $^{\sim}2\;{\pm}\;10^{-4}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, almost irrespective of RTA temperature. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of the Ni contact confirmed the existence of various Ni silicide phases, while the results of Ni/Al contact samples revealed that Al-contaning phases such as $Al_3Ni$, $Al_3Ni_2$, $Al_4Ni_3$, and $Ab_{3.21}Si_{0.47}$ were additionally formed as well as the Ni silicide phases. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) spectrum showed interfacial reaction zone mainly consisting of Al and Si at the contact interface, and it was also shown that considerable amounts of Si and C have diffused toward the surface. This indicates that contact resistance lowering of the Ni/Al contacts is related with the formation of the formation of interfacial reaction zone containing Al and Si. From these results, possible mechanisms of contact resistance lowering by the addition of Al were discussed.

Semiconducting layers are thin rubber film between electrical cable wire and insulating polymer layers having a volume resistivity of ${\sim}10^2{\Omega}cm$. A new semiconducting material was suggested in this study based on the carbon nanotube(CNT)-reinforced polymer nanocomposites. CNT-reinforced polymer nanocomposites were prepared by solution mixing with various polymer type and dual filler system. The mechanical, thermal and electrical properties were investigated as a function of polymer type and dual filler system based on CNT and carbon black. The volume resistivity of composites was strongly related with the crystallinity of polymer matrix. With decreased crystallinity, the volume resistivity decreased linearly until a critical point, and it remained constant with further decreasing the crystallinity. Dual filler system also affected the volume resistivity. The CNT-reinforced nanocomposite showed the lowest volume resistivity. When a small amount of carbon black(CB) was replaced the CNT, the crystallinity increased considerably leading to a higher volume resistivity.

Submicron-scale patterns made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) were fabricated on silicon-wafer using a capillarity-directed soft lithographic technique. Polyurethane acrylate (PUA) stamps (Master molds) were used to fabricate the patterns. Patterns with three different aspect ratios were fabricated by varying the holding time. The patterns fabricated were the negative replica of the master mold. The patterns so obtained were investigated for their adhesion and friction properties at nano-scale using AFM. Friction tests were conducted in the range of 0-80 nN. Glass (Borosilicate) balls of diameter 1.25 mm mounted on cantilever (Contact Mode type NPS) were used as tips. Further, micro-friction tests were performed using a ball-on-flat type micro-tribe tester, under reciprocating motion, using a soda lime ball (1 mm diameter) under a normal load of 3,000 mN. All experiments were conducted at ambient temperature ($24{\pm}1^{\circ}C$) and relative humidity ($45{\pm}5\%$). Results showed that the patterned samples exhibited superior tribological properties when compared to the silicon wafer and non-patterned sample (PMMA thin film) both at the nano and micro-scales, owing to their increased hydrophobicity and reduced real area of contact. In the case of patterns it was observed that their morphology (shape factor and size factor) was decisive in defining the real area of contact.
Yttria-stabilized zirconia(YSZ) films were prepared onto p-type (100) silicon wafer by a plasma-enhanced metallorganic chemical vapor deposition(PE MO CVD) processing involving the application of vapor mixture of tri(2.2.6.6-tetramethyl-3, 5-heptanate) yttrium$[Y(DPM)_3]$, zirconiumtriflouracethyla cetonate$(Zr(tfacac)_4$ and oxygen gas. The x-ray diffraction(XRD) and fourier transform infrared spectra(FT1R) results showed that the deposited YSZ films had a single cubic phase. $Y_2O_3$ content of YSZ film was analyzed by PIXE(partic1e induced x-ray emission). The experimental results by PIXE revealed that 12.lmol%, 20.4mol% and 31.6mol% $Y_2O_3$ could be obtained as the $Y(DPM)_3$ bubbling temperature varied at $160^{\circ}C, 165^{\circ}C$ and $170^{\circ}C$ respectively. The increase of $Y(DPM)_3$ bubbling temperature caused shifting flat band voltage to have a negative value.

In this study, we use the $2.5cm{\times}7.5cm$ soda lime glass as the substrate. We used the ultrasonicator. Glass was dipped in the acetone, methanol and DI water respectively for 10 minutes. Ar(99.99%)gas was used as the sputtering gas. We varied the RF power between 100~175 W with 25 W steps. Base pressure was kept by turbo molecular pump at $3.0{\times}10^{-6}$ torr. Working pressure was kept by injection of Ar gas. ZnS thin films were deposited with the radio frequency magnetron sputtering technique at various temperatures and sputtering powers. It is also clearly observed that, the intensity of the (111) XRD peak increases with increasing the RF power. Electrical properties were measured by hall effect methods at room temperature. The resistivity, carrier concentration, and hall mobility of ZnS deposited on glass substrate as a function of sputtering power. It can be seen that as the sputtering power increase from 100 to 175 W, the resistivity of the films on glass decreased significantly from $8.1{\times}10^{-2}$ to $1.2{\times}10^{-3}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. This behavior could be explained by the effect of the sputtering power on the mobility and carrier concentration. When the RF power increases, the carrier concentration increases slightly while the resistivity decreases significantly. These variation originate from improved crystallinity and enhanced substitutional doping as the sputtering power increases.
To study the role of PbO as the buffer layer, Pt/PZT/PbO/Si with the MFIS structure was deposited on the p-type (100) Si substrate by the r.f. magnetron sputtering with $Pb_{1.1}Zr_{0.53}Ti_{0.47}O_3$ and PbO targets. When PbO buffer layer was inserted between the PZT thin film and the Si substrate, the crystallization of the PZT thin films was considerably improved and the processing temperature was lowered. From the result of an X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) depth profile result, we could confirm that the substrate temperature for the layer of PbO affects the chemical states of the interface between the PbO buffer layer and the Si substrate, which results in the inter-diffusion of Pb. The MFIS with the PbO buffer layer show the improved electric properties including the high memory window and low leakage current density. In particular, the maximum value of the memory window is 2.0V under the applied voltage of 9V for the Pt/PZT(200 nm, $400^{\circ}C)/PbO(80 nm)/Si$ structures with the PbO buffer layer deposited at the substrate temperature of $300^{\circ}C$.
Thermoelectric bismuth telluride thin films were prepared on $SiO_{2}$/Si substrate with co-sputtering of bismuth and tellurium targets. The effects of deposition temperature on surface morphology, crystallinity and electrical transport properties were investigated. Hexagonal crystallites were clearly visible at the surface of films deposited above $290 ^{\circ}C$. Change of dominant phase from rhombohedral $Bi_2Te_3$ to hexagonal BiTe was confirmed with X-ray diffraction analysis. The deviation from stoichiometric composition at high deposition temperature resulted in the change of structural and electrical characteristics. Seebeck coefficients of all samples have negative value, indicating the prepared $Bi_XTe_Y$ films are n-type thermoelectric. Optimum of Seebeck coefficient and power factor were obtained at the deposition temperature of $225 \^{circ}$C (about -55 $\mu$V/K and $3\times10^{-4}$ W/$k^{2}$m, respectively). Deterioration of thermoelectric properties at higher temperature.
The effects of RTA treatment on the leakage current have been studied for tantalum pentoxide( $Ta_2O_5$) films deposited by PECVD on P-type(100) Si substrate using $TaCl_5$(99.99%) and $N_2O$(99.99%) gaseous mixture. The refractive index increased with increasing the deposition temperature and the maximum deposition rate was obtained at $500^{\circ}C$. The Ta-0 bond peak intensity of as-deposited $Ta_2O_5$ increased with increasing the deposition temperature through FT-IR analysis and the leakage current value was decreased with increasing the deposition temperature. The small leakage current value obtained after RTA treatment of as-deposited $Ta_2O_5$ was found to be due to the reduction of 0-deficient structure in the film. The increases of the oxygen coacentration and the Ta-0 bond peak intensity in the film after RTA treatment were measured by AES and FT-IR analyses.
In this report, we set up a simple device which enabled us to obtain data useful to estimate the relative capacity of thermal energy retention of greenhouse built with various plastic coverings. A box($20cm{\times}20cm{\times}30cm$) framed with flexiglass at the edges and covered with thin plastic films was made, in which were placed a thermostat-controlled nichrom wire heater and a thermal probe made of thermister to monitor temperature changes. A wheaston-bridge type transducer and a chart recorder were used to record the changes of temperature inside the box The data obtained by using the device showed that the relative rate of heat toss through plastic films with identical thickness decreased in the order of PE film>EVA film>PVC film and that IR additives such as fine silica gel improved the insulating power of plastic films. This observations are in well accord with general information, demostrating the feasibility of the device in usefulness for the purpose of screening of various commercial plastic coverings.
