  • The free vibrations of thermally buckled, simply supported, symmetrically laminated, rectangular, and quasi-isotropic plates are investigated. The nonlinear postbuckling analysis is performed by the finite element method based on the first order shear deformable plate theory with the use of von Karman type nonlinear strains and the Duhamel-Newman type constitutive law. The postbuckling solutions are used to obtain free vibration responses of buckled plates. Several numerical examples for quasi-isotropic laminated plates are considered. The effects of width-to-thickness ratios and aspect ratios on the free vibration characteristics of buckled plates are investigated.

  • This paper deals with the pure bending of incompressible elastic perfectly plastic two-layer sheets under plane strain conditions at large strains. Each layer is classified by its yield stress, shear modulus of elasticity and its initial percentage thickness in relation to the whole sheet. The solution found is semi-analytic. In particular, a numerical technique is only necessary to solve transcendental equations. The general solution is cumbersome because different analytic expressions for the radial and circumferential stresses should be adopted in different regions of the whole sheet. In particular, there are several alternative ways a plastic region (or plastic regions) can propagate. However, for any given set of material and process parameters the solution to the problem consists of a sequence of rather simple analytic expressions connected by transcendental equations. The general solution is illustrated by a simple example.

  • Cotton fabrics were immersed in aqueous solution of N-methylmorpholine N-oxide(NMMO) with various concentrations, padded by 300% of pick-up, concentrated at $90^\circ{C}$ for 30min under constant-length condition, washed, and dried, to examine a possibility of linen-like finishing by the solvent bonding between fibers. With increasing the concentration of NMMO, cross-sections of fibers changed to oval or polygonal shapes and not only the fibers but also the warp and weft were bonded each other, which produced linen-like effect on the fabrics in the aspects of appearance and mechanical properties such as the Increase of stiffness and shear properties. The thickness, moisture regain and dyeability were increased with the concentration of NMMO.

  • In this study, composite laminated conical shells with ring stiffeners are analyzed. A versatile 4-node shell element which is useful for the analysis of conical shell structures is used. An improved flat shell element is established by the combined use of the addition of non-conforming displacement modes and the substitute shear strain fields. The proposed element has six degrees of freedom per node and permits an easy connection to other types(beam element) of Optimum location and optimum section properties of ring stiffeners are obtained. It is shown that the thickness of conical shell is reduced about 20% by optimum ring stiffeners.

  • A technique to control the operating frequency of microstrip antenna by using the X-cut quartz substrate has been investigated experimentally and theoretically. We consider 6, 8 and 10 GHz resonance frequency in three dimensional quartz plates. Equation of linear piezoelectricity are solved for the thickness-shear approximation of X-cut quartz plates. At X-band frequencies, the microstrip antenna was voltage-controllable using the dc electric field dependence of the piezoelectric constant of X-cut quartz. This work demonstrates advantageous application for X-cut quartz plate in microstrip antenna substrates.

  • Micro injection molding analysis for microneedle fabrication was performed in the present study. The dimensions of width and thickness for in-plane microneedle are $600{\mu}m$, $500{\mu}m$, respectively. A delivery system based on guidelines for traditional injection molding was designed for four-cavities molding system. To investigate the effects of processing conditions in the mirconeedle fabrication, injection molding analysis using commercial code was performed. It was shown that the total injection time has a significant effect on the fabrication of in-plane microneedles.

  • In order to study the effect of lubrication during hot rolling, ferritic stainless steel (FSS) sheet were hot-rolled with and without application of lubrication. The effect of two hot rolling processes on the evolution of texture and microstructure after hot rolling, cold rolling and subsequent recrystallization annealing was studied by means of macro-texture analysis and microstructure observations. After hot rolling, the specimen rolled with lubrication showed rolling textures at the sheet surface, while the specimen rolled without lubrication displayed shear textures in the outer layers of the sheet. Hot rolling with lubrication was beneficial to the formation of strong recrystallization textures at sheet surface. However, hot rolling with lubrication led to the formation of orientation colonies in outer thickness layers of the recrystallized sheet.

  • In order to investigate the effects of layer-wise in-plane displacements on vibration and damping characteristics of composite laminated plates, the finite element method based on the generalized laminated plate theory(GLPT) has been formulated. Specific damping capacity of each mode was obtained by modal strain energy method. To see the effect of transverse shear on deformation, the strain energy of stress components was computed. The accuracy of this study was examined for the cylindrical bending vibration of cross-ply plate strip. The results were very accurate compared with 3-D solutions. The numerical results show that through-thickness variation of in-plane displacements has not so much influence on the natural frequency, but has a great influence on the damping of composite plates, especially on the damping of thick composite plates since the damping is affected by local behavior while the natural frequency is affected by global behavior.
