This paper presents the theroetical analysis of the crack tip stress intensity factor for a center crack in a finite width plate with variable thickness. The analyses were based on Laurent's expansions of complex stress potentials where the expansion coefficients are determined from the boundary conditions. The perturbation method was employed in numerical calculations. The correction factor F(.lambda.)is given in the form of power series of .lambda. [a numerical formula] where .lambda.=a/w$^{1}$; Dimensionless crack length, .betha.=t$_{2}$/t; Thickness ratio .omega.=w$_{2}$/w$_{1}$; width ratio The correction factor values vary with the width ratio .omega. and the maximum variation occurs around .betha.=1. For the case of .betha.=1 or .betha.=0 (uniform thickness plate0, the correction factor values agree well with Feddersen's formula. In all cases, as .lambda. approaches to 1 (thickness interface), the correction factor values are decreased rapidly for .betha.>1, and increased rapidly for .betha.<1.

In this paper, the variations of threshold voltage characteristics for ratio of channel length and thickness have been alanyzed for DG(Double Gate)MOSFET having top gate and bottom gate. Since the DGMOSFET has two gates, it has advantages that contollability of gate for current is nearly twice and SCE(Short Channel Effects) shrinks in nano devices. The channel length and thickness in MOSFET determines device size and extensively influences on SCEs. The threshold voltage roll-off, one of the SCEs, is large with decreasing channel length. The threshold voltage roll-off and drain induced barrier lowing have been analyzed with various ratio of channel length and thickness for DGMOSFET in this study.

In the paper, a study on the analysis of the effects of trailing edge thickness on the aerodynamic characteristics of an airfoil is described. In this research, modification of the formula representing NACA symmetric airfoil is studied to change the airfoil shape with different trailing edge thickness of user's choice. According to the result of aerodynamic characteristics, as the trailing edge thickness increases the maximum lift coefficient increases while the lift-to-drag ratio decreases. In this paper flow calculation results are demonstrated and the analysis on those results and findings on the effects of non-zero thickness of trailing edge are suggested.

In this study, thickness vibration mode piezoelectric devices for AE sensor application were simulated using ATILA FEM program, and then fabricated. Trajectory resonant displacement and electro mechanical coupling factors of the piezoelectric devices were investigated. The simulation results showed that excellent displacement and electro mechanical coupling factor was obtained when the ratio of diameter/thickness($\Phi/T$) was 0.75. The piezoelectric device of $\Phi/T$=0.75 exhibited the optimum values of fr= 183 kHz, displacement= $4.44{\times}10^{-7}[m]$, $k_{33}$= 0.69, which were suitable for the application of AE sensor piezoelectric device.
Free vibration of symmetric angle-ply layered conical shell frusta of variable thickness is analyzed under shear deformation theory with different boundary conditions by applying collocation with spline approximation. Linear and exponential variation in thickness of layers are assumed in axial direction. Displacements and rotational functions are approximated by Bickley-type splines of order three and obtained a generalized eigenvalue problem. This problem is solved numerically for an eigenfrequency parameter and an associated eigenvector of spline coefficients. The vibration of three and five-layered conical shells, made up of two different type of materials are considered. Parametric studies are made for analysing the frequencies of the shell with respect to the coefficients of thickness variations, length-to-radius ratio, length-to-thickness ratio and ply angles with different combination of the materials. The results are compared with the available data and new results are presented in terms of tables and graphs.
This research presents an investigation on the thermal buckling resistance of FGM plates having parabolic-concave thickness variation exposed to uniform and gradient temperature change. An analytical formulation is derived and the governing differential equation of thermal stability is solved numerically using finite difference method. A specific function of thickness variation is introduced where it controls the parabolic variation intensity of the thickness without changing the original material volume. The results indicated that the loss ratio in buckling resistance is the same for any gradient temperature profile. Influencing geometrical and material parameters on the loss ratio in the thermal resistance buckling are investigated which may help in design guidelines of such complex structures.
The objectives of this study were to compare growth of Pllioblastus pygmaed and soil characteristics as affected by difference of soil thickness and mixture ratio in shallow-extensive green roof module system, and to identify the level of soil thickness and mixture as suitable growing condition to achieve the desired plants in green roof. Different soil thickness levels were achieved under 15cm and 25cm of shallow-extensive green roof module system that was made by woody materials for $500{\times}500{\times}300mm$. Soil mixture ratio were three types for perlit: peatmoss: leafmold=6:2:2(v/v/v, $P_6P_2L_2$), perlit: peatmoss: leafmold=5:3:2(v/v/v, $P_5P_3L_2$) and perlit: peatmoss: leafmold=4:4:2(v/v/v, $P_4P_4L_2$). On June 2006, Pllioblastus pygmaed were planted directly in a green roof module system in rows. All treatment were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replication. The results are summarized below. In term of soil characteristics, Soil acidity and electric conductivity was measured in pH 6.0~6.6 and 0.12dS/m~0.19dS/m, respectively. Organic matter and exchangeable cations desorption fell in the order: $P_4P_4L_2$ > $P_5P_3L_2$ > $P_6P_2L_2$. $P_6P_2L_2$ had higher levels of the total solid phase and liquid phase, and $P_4P_4L_2$ had gas phase for three phases of soil in the 15cm and 25cm soil thickness. Although Pllioblastus pygmaed was possibled soil thickness 15cm, there was a trend towards increased soil thickness with increased leaf length, number of leaves and chlorophyll contents in 25cm. The growth response of Pllioblastus pygmaed had fine and sustain condition in order to $P_6P_2L_2$ = $P_5P_3L_2$ > $P_4P_4L_2$. However, The results of this study suggested that plants grown under $P_4P_4L_2$ appear a higher density ground covering than plants grown under $P_6P_2L_2$. Collectively, our data emphasize that soil thickness for growth of Pllioblastus pygmaed were greater than soil mixture ratio in shallow-extensive green roof module system.
The purpose of this paper is to study shear locking-free parametric earthquake analysis of thick and thin plates using Mindlin's theory, to determine the effects of the thickness/span ratio, the aspect ratio and the boundary conditions on the linear responses of thick and thin plates subjected to earthquake excitations. In the analysis, finite element method is used for spatial integration and the Newmark-${\beta}$ method is used for the time integration. Finite element formulation of the equations of the thick plate theory is derived by using higher order displacement shape functions. A computer program using finite element method is coded in C++ to analyze the plates clamped or simply supported along all four edges. In the analysis, 17-noded finite element is used. Graphs are presented that should help engineers in the design of thick plates subjected to earthquake excitations. It is concluded that 17-noded finite element can be effectively used in the earthquake analysis of thick and thin plates. It is also concluded that, in general, the changes in the thickness/span ratio are more effective on the maximum responses considered in this study than the changes in the aspect ratio.
This study was performed to investigate the sound distortion following the alternation of the palatal plate thickness, for this study, 3 subjects who were born in Seoul and spoke Seoul dialect were recruited from K university male student population. First, their sounds of /아(a)/, 어(e)/, 오(o)/, 우(u)/, 으($\.{+}$), 이(i)/,에(e)/ without inserting plate were recorded , and then the sounds with palatal plates of different thickness were recorded, respectively. The palatal plates was constructed to cover the alveolar & palatal surfaces of the maxilla with an approximate thickness of 1.0mm, 2.5mm, and thickness of 2.5mm over the alveolar ridge & 1.0mm elsewhere and, named B, C, D-type, in succession. Series of analysis were administered through Computer (16 bit IBM PC/AT) at analyze the sound distortions. These experiments were analyzed by the LPC, Log Area Ratio. The findings led to the following conclusions: 1. Sound distortions were relatively minute in each condition and informations, however, /이(i)/ was the most distorted vowel in all conditions. 2. By and large, sound distortion was large in C, D-types. However, there was no correlation of the distortion rate on the 3 informants, and all tested vowels. 3. It was similar to LPC, Log Area Ratio distortion rates. 4. It was found that the sound distortion wit]1 plate inserted was verified to the numeric value with LPC and Log Area Ratio method.
