  • Electrochemical systems find widespread technical application. Industrial electrolytic process include electroplating, electroforming, and electropolishing. Electroforming and electroplating is widely used in the manufacture of metal parts. This paper based on the basic equations of electrics and electrochemical kinetics, was employed for a theoretical explanation of the current density distribution on electroforming process. We calculated current density distribution and potential distribution on cathode. Also, calculated current density distribution of vertical direction. It was shown that current density is related with distance of between anode and cathode and mass transfer process. And make an experiment on its relation and electroformed thickness. It shows that it is useful method using FEM with multi-physics to estimate electroformed thickness.

  • The distribution of oil film thickness in piston were measured by induced fluorescence method. A Xe lamp was used as light source. Coumarine-6 was mixed with oil as the fluorescent dye. Fluorescent signal which is proportional to the oil film thickness was acquired by CCD camera and transmitted to the personal computer as video signal. In order to solve the problem of measurement system, irregular distribution and unstability of light intensity, as well as to know the relationship between the oil film thickness and output signal, three different calibration techniques were used. Motoring and firing tests were performed in a single cylinder research engine with transparent liner. By analyzing the oil film thickness converted from the photographed image, it was observed that each of three piston rings scrapes the oil both upward and downward and oil film thickness is not uniform horizontally at a given piston land. The amount of oil in each land was considerably affected by the engine load. It is thought that the blow-by gas blows the oil down to the crankcase.

  • Recently, some reports of experimental research on the distribution of fatigue crack propagation rate have been published, and the reliability evaluation using the results of research for the mechanical structure has been executed. Since the thicknesses of specimens used in the published reports are limited to the thin ones, the applicability of the results into the mechanical structure with another thickness seems to be doubtful. That is, not only the quantitative evaluation, but also qualitative evaluation of the effect of specimen thickness has not been executed. In this study, an experimental investigation has been done by using the new type automated multi-stage fatigue testing machine which was developed by the author. The influence of specimen thickness for the distribution of fatigue crack propagation rate with the results is discussed.

  • This paper provides the results of the investigation on the optimum thickness distribution of plate structures with different essential boundary conditions. In this study, the strain energy to be minimized is considered as the objective function and the initial volume of structures is used as the constraint function. The computer-aided geometric design (CAGD) such as Coon's patch representation is used to represent the thickness distribution of plates. A reliable degenerated shell finite element is adopted to calculate the accurate strain energy level of the plates. Robust optimization algorithms provided in the optimizer DOT are adopted to search the optimum thickness values during the optimization iteration. Finally, the square plate is used to find out the optimum thickness distribution of plates according to different essential boundary condition.

  • Bonding strength of reinforcing material has been recognized to be the most important factor which determines the strengthening effect and the durability of repair work. The properties of bonding layers affects the stress distribution at the end of the plate, therefore the behavior of bonding layer has to be investigated. In this study, the stress distribution at the end of the bonded plate has been tested and compared with Roberts' analysis. Shear stress and vertical normal stress at the end of strengtening plate are analysized and the effedts of bonding layer thickness, plate thickness and plate length on the bonding behavior are tested. The test results showed that thickness is one of the most important factor, which is the thinner the thickness, the smaller the maximum stress.

  • Superplastic forming processes by characteristic of low flow stress and high elongation have advantages to reducing on production cost and weight because of the product of complex form could be made in one part. However superplastically termed part has a characteristic of non-uniform thickness distribution along forming direction. Especially. since the thickness distribution affects on mechanical properties of product. the uniform thickness is very important. There are two solution procedure of implicit and explicit procedure to analyze the superplastic forming. In this study to analyze the thickness distribution two kinds of commercial programs of DEFORM and PAM-STAMP which implicit and explicit code are used respectly. The results from the two Programs were compared with eath other As a result implicit code were more suitable than explicit code for superplastic forming analysis.

  • Vacuum-assisted thermoforming is one of the critical steps for successful application of film insert molding(FIM) to parts of complex shape. In this study, the simulations and experiments of thermoforming processes were performed to investigate the effects of process conditions on thickness distribution and printed pattern deformation of films in vacuum-assisted thermoforming. The film thickness uniformity increased with decreasing film heating time, whereas it increased with increasing vacuum delay time. After thermoforming of films with uniform pattern space of 5mm, the maximum space was 9.432mm. Based on the simulation, a modified pattern was calculated to obtain uniform spaces after thermoforming. In the experiments for film with the modified pattern, the maximum space appeared 5.837mm. In, addition. the predicted patterns were in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • In order to evaluate strength of spot welded joint, at first it is importent that we should know strain distribution near nugget zone. During loading, in HAZ, compressive strain increase with Increase of load, but in nugget zone tensile strain increase. During unloading, on the other hand, even through the decreases, the strain variation is not almost appeared in nugget zone and HAZ. In nugget boundary zone, the strain range increases continuously along with load increase on outer surface, but the strain increases continunously and decreases rapidly beyond yield strength on inner surface. In this paper, strain distribution are measured in inner and outer surface with variation of thickness and load under tensile-shear load. Tensile-shear strength increased as with increase of specimen thickness. As for thickness increase rates are 25%, 50%, 100%, and 150%, tensile-shear strength in crease rates are 40%, 81%, 130% and 228%.

  • Thermoforming is one of the most versatile and economical processes available for shaping polymer products, but obtaining a uniform thickness of the final product using this method is difficult. Heater power adjustment is very important because the thickness distribution depends strongly on the distribution of the sheet temperature. In this paper, the steady-state optimum distribution of heater power is first ascertained by a numerical optimization to obtain a uniform sheet temperature. The time-dependent optimal heater input is then determined to decrease the temperature difference through the direction of the thickness using the response surface method and the D-optimal method. The optimal results show that the time-dependent optimum heater power distribution gives an acceptable uniform sheet temperature in the forming temperature range by the end of the heating process.
