Purpose: There is no consensus regarding the relationship between the width of keratinized mucosa and the health of periimplant tissues, but clinicians prefer to provide enough keratinized mucosa around dental implants for long-term implant maintenance. An apically positioned flap during second stage implant surgery is the chosen method of widening the keratinized zone in simple procedures. However, the routine suture techniques used with this method tend to apply tension over the provisional abutments and decrease pre-existing keratinized mucosa. To overcome this shortcoming, a pre-fabricated implant-retained stent was designed to apply vertical pressure on the labial flap and stabilize it in a bucco-apical direction to create a wide keratinized mucous zone. Methods: During second stage implant surgery, an apically displaced, partial thickness flap with a lingualized incision was retracted. A pre-fabricated stent was clipped over the abutments after connecting to the provisional abutment. Vertical pressure was applied to displace the labial flap. No suture was required and the stent was removed after 10 days. Results: A clinically relevant amount of keratinized mucosa was achieved around the dental implants. Buccally displaced keratinized mucosa was firmly attached to the underlying periosteum. A slight shrinkage of the keratinized zone was noted after the healing period in one patient, but no discomfort during oral hygiene was reported. Clinically healthy gingiva with enough keratinized mucosa was achieved in both patients. Conclusions: The proposed technique is a simple and time-effective technique for preserving and providing keratinized tissue around dental implants.
The property of soft magnetism for the Corning glass/non-buffer or buffer Ta/Conetic(NiFeCuMo)/Ta prepared by the ion beam deposition sputtering was studied. The effect of crystal property and post annealing treatment depending on the thickness of Conetic thin films was investigated. The coercivities of Conetic thin films with easy and hard direction along to the applying magnetic field during deposition were compared with each other. The coercivity and magnetic susceptibility of Ta(5 nm)/Conetic(50 nm) thin film were 0.12 Oe and 1.2 ${\times}\;10^4$, respectively. From these results, firstly, the Conetic thin film was more soft magnetism thin film than other one such as permalloy NiFe. Secondly, the usage of soft magnetism Conetic thin film for GMR-SV (giant magneoresistance-spin valve) or MTJ (Megnetic Tunnel Junction) structure in a low magnetic field can be possible.

In this paper, we study the biaxial buckling analysis of nonlocal MEE(magneto-electro-elastic) nano plates based on the first-order shear deformation theory. The in-plane electric and magnetic fields can be ignored for MEE(magneto-electro-elastic) nano plates. According to magneto-electric boundary condition and Maxwell equation, the variation of magnetic and electric potentials along the thickness direction of the MME plate is determined. In order to reformulate the elastic theory of MEE(magneto-electro-elastic) nano-plate, the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen is used. Using the variational principle, the governing equations of the nonlocal theory are discussed. The relations between nonlocal and local theories are investigated by computational results. Also, the effects of nonlocal parameters, in-plane load directions, and aspect ratio on structural responses are studied. Computational results show the effects of the electric and magnetic potentials. These computational results can be useful in the design and analysis of advanced structures constructed from MEE(magneto-electro-elastic) materials and may be the benchmark test for the future study.
We measure the ferromagnetic resonance signals in order to analyze the exchange coupling energy due to the uncompensated antiferromagnetic spins in exchange coupled CoFe/MnIr bilayers. The exchange bias fields ($H_{ex}$) and rotatable anisotropy fields ($H_{ra}$) are obtained from the ferromagnetic resonance fields measured with in-plane angle in thermal annealed samples with $t_{AF}$= 0, 3, and 10 nm. The sum of the $H_{ex}$ and $H_{ra}$ do not depend on the MnIr thickness, which means that all the uncompensated AF spins are aligned to one direction in $300^{\circ}C$ annealed samples. Therefore, the uncompensated AF spins are divided into two different parts. One parts are fixed at the interface between CoFe/MnIr bilayers and induces the $H_{ex}$, other parts are rotatable with magnetic field and induces the $H_{ra}$. Finally, the exchange coupling energy can be expressed by the sum of the exchange bias energy and rotatable anisotropy energy.
We investigate the optical properties of aerosols over Gongju by an indirect method using the pound measurement, Sky-radiometer. The analysis period is from January to December, 2004. Skyrad. pack.3 is used to estimate the optical properties, such as the aerosol optical thickness (AOT), single scattering albedo (SSA), ${\AA}ngstron$ exponent $({\alpha})$ and size distribution, of aerosols from the ground measured radiance data. And qualify control is applied to minimize the cloud-contaminated data and improve the quality of analysis results. The 12-month average of AOT, ${\alpha}$, and SSA are 0.46, 1.14, and 0.91, respectively. The average volume spectra of aerosols shows a bi-modal distribution, the first peak at fine mode and the second peak at coarse mode. AOT and coarse particles clearly increases while SSA decreases during the Asian dust events. The optical properties of aerosols at Gongju vary with?seasons, but those are not influenced by the wind direction.
Advances in computer technology have enabled us to develop and use numerical landscape evolution models (NLEMs) for exploring the dynamics of geomorphic system from a variety of viewpoints which previously could have not been taken. However, as of yet there have been no trials using or developing NLEMs in Korea. The purpose of this research is to develop a 2 dimensional NLEM on a geological time scale and evaluate its usefulness. The newly developed NLEM (ND-NLEM) treats bedrock weathering as one of the major geomorphic processes and attempts to simulate the thickness of soil. As such it is possible to model the weathering-limited as well as the transport-limited environment on hillslopes. Moreover the ND-NLEM includes not only slow and continuous mass transport like soil creep, but also rapid and discrete mass transport like landslides. Bedrock incision is simulated in the ND-NLEM where fluvial transport capacity is large enough to move all channel bed loads, such that ND-NLEM can model the detachment-limited environment. Furthermore the ND-NLEM adopts the D-infinity algorithm when routing flows in the model domain, so it reduces distortion due to the use of the steepest descent slope flow direction algorithm. In the experiments to evaluate the usefulness of the ND-NLEM, characteristics of the channel network observed from the model results were similar to those of the case study area for comparison, and the hypsometry curve log during the experiment showed rational evidence of landscape evolution. Therefore, the ND-NLEM is shown to be useful for simulating landscape evolution on a geological time scale.
A set of field investigations was performed to estimate accurately the predominant periods of seismic 8round motions and the attenuation characteristics of the seismic ground vibration. Predominant periods of ground motions were estimated from the measurement of the continuous microseismic vibratins of certain periods, inherent in the ground and in the buildings, utilizing the high sensitivity digital velocity seismometer consisting of 3-component geophones and a digital seismograph. Estimated predominant periods of microseismic vibraion of the ground(measured on'the ground surface) and the building (measured on the second floor) were in the range of 0.18~0.235 sec. and 0.26~0.31 sec. respectively. The subsurface structure of the site ground was surveyed by the seismic refraction method utilizing the digital seismicwave probing system. The ground structure was found to be a two-layered system : an upper top soil layer of 7m in thickness with the P-wave velocity of 662m1sec and a lower layer of silty-clayey soils with the P -wave velocity of 2210m1 sec. The attenuation characteristics of the seismic ground vibrations were determined by the amplitude decay measurement method us;ng the Seisgun, which produces strong artificial seismic energy. Measured spatial attenuation coefficients of the ground vibration in vertical(Z) longitudinal(X), transverse(Y) direction were 0.1137, 0.0025, and 0.0290 respectively. Estimated Spartial QP's (inverse of the specific dissipation constant w.r.t. shear waved of X, Y, and Z directions were in the range of 5.913~7.575, 32.371~41.452, 2.794~3.579 re spectively. This indicates that aseimic design of the structures on the site should take stronger consideration regarding the earthquake resistance characteristics of the structures against longitudinal ground motion.
Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the stress distribution in the bone and the displacement distribution of the miniscrew under orthopedic force with two different types of miniplate design as skeletal anchorage for orthopedic treatment. Materials and methods: Finite element models were made for 6-hole miniplate (0.8mm in thickness), which were designed in two different shapes-one is curvilinear shaped (C plate, Jeil Medical Co., Korea) and another, Y shaped (Y plate), fixed with 3 pieces of miniscrew 2mm-diameter and 6mm-long respectively. A traction force of 4 N was applied in $0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ to imaginary axis connecting two unfixed distalmost holes of the miniplate. Results: The maximum von Mises stress in the bone was much greater in the cortical portion rather than in the cancellous portion. C plate showed greater maximum von Mises stress in the cortical bone than Y plate. The maximum displacement of the miniscrew was greater in C plate than Y plate. The more increased the angle of the applied orthopedic force, the greater maximum von Mises stress in the bone and maximum displacement of the miniscrew. It was observed that in C plate, the von Mises stress in the bone and displacement of the miniscrew were distributed around the distalmost screw-fixed area. Conclusions: The results suggest that Y plate should have the advantage over C plate and in the placement of the miniplate, its imaginary axis should be placed as parallel as possible to the direction of orthopedic force to obtain its primary stability.

Nano/micro technology is currently applied to improve solid surface wettability, with recent research studies indicating that nanostructures can improve surface wettability in the hydrophilic direction, and liquid spreading (propagation) is generated by capillary wicking. The majority of the existing research involves qualitative analysis of the spreading phenomena, owing to the difficulty in conducting small-scale analysis (nanostructures). In this study, the droplet interfacial behavior on silicon surfaces with micro/nano/micro-nano structures is experimentally investigated. The interfacial behavior is directly visualized using synchrotron X-ray imaging (side view). The spreading phenomena occur on structured surfaces, and the liquid interface behaviors on the surfaces differ. The liquid film thickness is uniform during spreading on the microstructured surface, but not on the nano case which shows a gentle slope. These combined spreading shapes were observed on a micro-nano structured surface, and liquid propagation was enhanced when the micro- and nano-structures are combined.
A geoscientific research was performed on 12 samples of comb-pattern potteries which were excavated at Daecheonri neolithic site, Korea. The texture and compositions of 12 potteries and surrounding metrix of soil and rocks were compared with the help of petrographic microscope, XRD and REE data. As to the manufacturing techniques thick potteries are caused by the amount and number of coarse grains which are assumed to be added shards when their distributional pattern are considered. DC1, DC3, DC 7 and DC11 samples have clearly oriented textures, and the orientation of vesicles in DC3 and DC11 samples arranged in the same direction with those on the pottery surface. This indicates the use potter's wheel technique in manufacturing potteries. Burning temperature is assumed over $800^{/circ}C$, particularly under reduction environment. As to the source, raw materials of pottery matrix are derived from the bottom of excavation site, or in an extracted outcrop of the northwestern foothill from site, while the shard materials are very similar with those extracted from sandy loams near sites. Finally any use pattern of pottery may control the pottery thickness, shard addition, and matrix selection.
