  • Recently, a structure has been larger and higher under the improvement of construction technique. So, a mass concrete constructions that a mat foundation thickness of structure is over 80cm have been many. Also, because of the reason of high strength of concrete, the matter of thermal crack have become an important task to be solved absolutely. tn a cause of a thermal crack occurrence, there are material used, mixture of concrete, construction condition and so forth. In this study, we executed temperature and stress analysis of mat foundation to know the effect of the construction condition on a thermal crack of mat foundation. And we evaluated quantitatively about the occurrence possibility of thermal crack using the hydration heat analysis program. By using of this analysis technique, we will can control skilfully the quality of a mat foundation in advance.

  • In this study, we investigated the mechanical behaviors of layered thermal barrier coatings by indentations. Various single and double-layered thermal barrier coatings were deposited by air plasma spray process using different type of commercialized YSZ (Yttria stabilized zirconia) starting powders. Indentation stress-strain curve, load-displacement curve and hardness of the single and the double-layered thermal barrier coatings were obtained experimentally and analyzed. The indentation damages at the same loads were compared, and thus, the results depend on the structure of each coating. The result indicates improvement in damage resistances from tailoring of layered structures in the component of gas turbine system is expected.

  • In this paper, the dependence of MOSFET performance on the channel stress is characterized in depth. The tensile and compressive stresses are applied to CMOSFET using a nitride film which is used for the contact etch stop layer (CESL). Drain current of NMOS and PMOS is increased by inducing tensile and compressive stress, respectively, due to the increased mobility as well known. In case of NMOS with tensile stress, both decrease of the back scattering ratio ($\tau_{sat}$) and increase of the thermal injection velocity ($V_{inj}$) contribute the increase of mobility. It is also shown that the decrease of the $\tau_{sat}$ is due to the decrease of the mean free path ($\lambda_O$). On the other hand, the mobility improvement of PMOS with compressive stress is analyzed to be only due to the so increased $V_{inj}$ because the back scattering ratio is increased by the compressive stress. Therefore it was confirmed that the device performance has a strong dependency on the channel back scattering of the inversion layer and thermal injection velocity at the source side and NMOS and PMOS have different dependency on them.

  • by three-dimensional finite element method. The guide roll is an intermediately supported trans-axle miler, so called I-STAR roll, which was designed by VAI. The guide roll has been used in POSCO since 1998. Though the number of stowage in casting has been apparently decreased since thef it has occasionally been failed during operation. The simulations were carried out to find out the status of stress and deformation as well as improvement of the guide roll. The thermal effect is much more dominant than ferro-static pressure or others in stress and deformation of the guide roll. The material of the guide roll is SCM440.

  • The present work focuses on the prediction of birefringence in injection-molded plastic part and its improvement by rapid mold heating. To calculate birefringence, flow-induced residual stress is computed through a fully three-dimensional injection molding analysis. Then the stress-optical law is applied from which the order of birefringence can be evaluated and visualized. The birefringence patterns are predicted for a rectangular plate with a variation of mold temperatures, which shows that the amount of molecular orientation and birefringence level decreases with an increase of mold temperature. The effect of mold temperature on the order of birefringence is also studied for a thin-walled rectangular strip, and compared with experimental measurements. Both predicted and experimental patterns of birefringence are in agreements on the observation that the birefringence level diminishes significantly when the mold temperature is raised to above the glass transition temperature.

  • To develop ultrathin gate oxide for ULSI MOSFETs, for the first time, we fabricated MOS capacitors with 65.angs. thick initial oxide grown by high pressure oxidation (HIPOX) at 700.deg. C in 5 atmosphere $O_{2}$ ambient and then followed by rapid thermal nitridation (RTN) in N$_{2}$O ambient. The dielectric breakdown fields of the initial HIPOX oxide are 13.0 MV/cm and 13.8MV/cm for negative and positive gate bias, respectively and are dependent on nitridation temeprature and time. The lifetimes of the HIPOX oxides extractd by TDDB method are 1.1*10$^{8}$ sec and 3.4 * 10$^{9}$ sec for negative and positive stress current, respectively. The lifetime of the HIPOX oxide dfor negative stress current increases with nitridation time in N$_{2}$O ambient at 1100.deg.C, reaching maximum value stress curretn increases with nitridation time in N$_{2}$O ambient at 1100.deg. C reacing maximum value of 1.2*10$^{9}$ sec for 30 sec of nitridation time, and then subsequently decreases at the longer nitridation time. The lifetimes of the nitrided-HIPOX oxides are longer than 10 years when nitridations are carried out longer than about 50 sec and 12 sec at 1000.deg. C, and 1100.deg. C, respectively.

  • Recently, owing to the development of industry and the improvement of building techniques, the concrete structure is becoming larger and higher. In hardening these large concrete, the heat of hydration gives rise to considerable thermal stress depending on the size and environmental condition of concrete, which might cause thermal cracking. Especially, the crack may cause severe damage to the safety and the durability of concrete structure. This study is investigated the thermal properties of concrete according to several binder conditions, such as OPC, Belite rich cement(BRC), slag cement(SC), blast furnace slag (BFS) added cement, fly ash added cement and BFS-fly ash added cement. As a result of this study, the concrete made with BRC, fly ash($25\%$) added cement and BFS($35\%$)-fly ash($15\%$) added cement gets superior effect in the control of heat hydration.

  • The contribution of damage mechanisms to failure of steam turbine casing made of Cr-Mo-V steel was investigated. Creep-fatigue interaction on the HP side corner of turbine casing was revealed as the root cause of the catastrophic failure performed by metallurgical analysis. The steady-state pressure and transient thermal stress were analyzed based on the actual operating condition of the thermal plant. Damage of creep-fatigue interaction to crack initiation was evaluated with multiaxial effects. The contribution ratio of creep and fatigue to the crack initiation was estimated to 3:1. Temporary geometrical correct action with repair weld was executed. For long-term operation, design improvement of casing equipment for creep resistance should be needed.

On the other hand, LHC gets superior effect in the control of heat hydration, it's caused by the volume of OPC.
