  • This paper introduces the Performance Monitoring System(PMS) in a thermal power plant. The purpose of the PMS is to offer the operator current performance information of plant which could be an index of plant status or information to improve plant efficiency. The PMS of Bukcheju thermal power plant unit #2&3 is implemented under the SIEMENS DCS which supplies about 150 function blocks for performance calculation and all measured signals. The performance of unit, boiler, turbines, feedwater heaters, condenser, airpreheaters, feedwater pumps will be monitored and updated for every 5 minutes in PMS of Bukcheju TPP.

  • In order to predict the thermal radiation induced from alumina particle cloud in the plume of solid propellant motor, view factor method is applied to space shuttle SRB and the result is compared with that of monte carlo method. For this purpose, radiative characteristics, such as particle cloud temperature distribution, effective emissivity or emissive power of particle cloud are studied. In the case of effective emissivity, inverse wavelength method is applied and plume reduction characteristic length is used for emissive power distribution. As a result, thermal radiation using view factor method gives more conservative results than that using monte carlo method. So it can be used for preliminary design of thermal protection system.

  • This paper presents the method for analyzing surface temperature of Electric incoming Apparatus. For the experiment, the surface temperature of electric power apparatus was measured and analyzed by using a infrared thermal imaging system. Surface Discharges(SD) have very complex characteristics of discharge patterns, therefore it requires the development of precise analysis methods. recently, studies on infrared thermal imaging system are carried out to analyze temperature distribution of power equipments through condition diagnosis and to diagnose the degradation of power equipments. The changes in suface temperature was measured by using the infrared thermal imaging system under hot line condition. The system was set up based on the diagnostic method of the electric incoming apparatus.

  • This study is aimed at investigating the thermal behavior of immersion-cooled high power LED lighting engines. 3D CFD models have been generated for the numerical analysis. Five cases in terms of the configuration of LED chips have been explored for various passive cooling conditions of the lighting engine, i.e., the natural air convection with a lens, the natural air convection without a lens, the deionized water-immersion cooling condition with a lens. The numerical study reveals that the deionized water-immersion cooled lighting engine has nearly twice better thermal performance than the natural air convection cooled lighting engine containing a lens. The investigation has also demonstrated that the four chips configuration has the better thermal performance than the single chip configuration.

  • Cast austenitic stainless steel is used for several components, such as primary coolant piping, elbow, pump casing and valve bodies in light water reactors. These components are subject to thermal embrittlement at the reactor operating temperature. The objective of this study is to summarize the method of estimating ferrite content, Charpy impact energy and J-R curve and to evaluate the thermal embrittlement of the cast austenitic stainless steel piping used in the domestic nuclear power plants. The result of evaluation, two domestic nuclear power plants used CF-8M and CF-8A material has adequate fracture toughness after saturation.

  • A variety of schemes were sought for a mitigation of thermal stratification phenomenon in the branch piping of domestic nuclear power plant. Several mechanisms of thermal stratification occurrence were introduced in this paper. A number of factors were selected to find out the schemes for thermal stratification mitigation and the computational analysis were performed. The length of vertical branch piping, the diameter, the radius of curvature of the elbow, the direction of connection between main piping and branch piping, the slope of branch piping, the leakage flow rate, the installation of additional valve, the change of the 1st valve position and another branch piping connected with branch piping were mentioned as factors in this paper.

  • This paper presents comparison of simulation and experiment in thermal analysis of 3-level PFC. Thermal analysis is necessary to optimize the power conversion system to get higher efficiency. Accordingly, analysis via simulation tools and analytic methods is performed to predict the power losses of converter. Consequently, thermal results of 3-level PFC experiment is compared with thermal analysis.
