A power generation system are proposed to convert ambient mechanical vibration into electrical energy using cantilever-type piezoelectric materials. The vibration-based power device can be used for self-powered systems without batteries. This paper presents the theoretical analysis for the coupled equations of piezoelectric and structural motions and investigates the dynamic characteristics of the self-power system using transfer function method. The theoretical model is verified by the finite element analysis of the resonance frequency, the dynamic response of the structure and the sensor sensibility. Experimental results measured using a prototype system agrees with the theoretical predictions. The system is shown to produce 2.53㎼ in average. Finally, we perform the optimal design for system variables to maximize output power.
The lock-up position of the floating ring seal affects the leakage flowrate and the stability. And it is changed depending on the operating and geometry condition. In this paper, the leakage flowrate and stability with change of the height and length were investigated by theoretical analysis and experiment. The parameter of the height and length is expressed to the b and L. The decreasing of the b resulted in the increasing of equivalent whirl frequency ratio in the experimental result at the low speed and high pressure not such as theoretical analysis. As the L increased the leakage flowrate decreased and stiffness and direct damping coefficient increased in the experimental result. That was similar to the theoretical analysis.
The authors had done theoretical analysis of the vibration of rectangular elastic plates in contact with water. In this analysis, using the elliptic cylindrical coordinate system, they investigated the effects of mass density ratios, chord-length to thickness ratios, aspect ratios, boundary conditions and mode shapes on the added mass of plates. The results are reported in papers quoted as the reference [4] and [5] of this paper. In this report the results of experiments conducted to verify the above theoretical analysis are presented. It shows that numerical results derived from the theoretical analysis are generally in good agreement with the experimental results.
In this paper, a novel zero-voltage-switching(ZVS) resonant DC-DC converter is proposed. It is composed of two symmetrical active-clamped circuits, the converter can be achieve ZVS in each switches. Also, active clamp capacitor ratios($\alpha$) of proposed circuit can be reduce a peak stress of switching voltage for each main switch. Simulation results using Pspice 9.2 ver and $C^{++}$ characteristic analysis show a provement for the validity of theoretical analysis. The analysis of the proposed Current-Fed Push Pull type DC-DC converter is generally described by using normalized parameter, and achieved an evaluated characteristic values which is needed to design a circuit. We confirm a rightfulness theoretical analysis by comparing a theoretical values and experimental values obtained from experiment using MOSFET as switching devices.
The free vibration analysis and design optimization of the rotating composite cylindrical shells with a rectangular cutout are investigated by theoretical method. The Love's thin shell theory is used to derive the frequency equation. The theoretical results are obtained by application of the energy method employing the Rayleigh-Ritz procedure. The used circumferential vibration modes are trigonometric functions, the axial modes are the beam modal functions chosen to satisfy the prescribed boundary conditions. To check the validity, the theoretical results are compared with experimental, FEM and other theoretical results.

Back-gated silicon-on-insulator MOSFET -a threshold-voltage adjustable device-employs a constant back-gate potential to terminate source-drain electric fields and to provide carrier confinement in the channel. This suppresses shortchannel effects of nano-scale and of high drain biases, while allowing a means to threshold voltage control. We report here a theoretical analysis of this geometry to identify its natural length scales, and correlate the theoretical results with experimental device measurements. We also analyze experimental electrical characteristics for misaligned back-gate geometries to evaluate the influence on transport behavior from the device electrostatics due to the structure and position of the back-gate. The backgate structure also operates as a floating-gate nonvolatile memory (NVRAM) when the back-gate is floating. We summarize experimental and theoretical results that show the nano-scale scaling advantages of this structure over the traditional front floating-gate NVRAM.
IPMC(Ionic Polymer-Metal Comosite) exhibits large deformation, having great attention in many application fields. It generates bending moment by ion exchange polymer film. It can be quickly bended by the applied voltage across the plated electrode of the polymer film. In the present paper, we derive the theoretical modeling and dynamic analysis of bending motions of IPMC actuators using the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The theoretical model of a cantilever IPMC actuator estimates the moment produced by the applied voltage. The dynamic characteristics, including natural frequencies and frequency response, are calculated by the theoretical model, and they are compared with the experimental results and finite element analysis. It is shown that the mathematical modeling allows precise estimation to the voltage-driven motion of the cantilever IPMC in air.
The purpose of this paper is to study the effects of the flexibility of HDD base plates on spindle vibration via theoretical predictions and experimental measurements. The flexibility of the base plate can significantly affect HDD spindle vibration. This is the most prominent feature in 2.5 inch HDD. Nevertheless, theoretical analysis of the spindle vibration often neglects the flexibility of the non-rotating part including spindle, base plate, and top cover. Our theoretical model developed in University of Washington can include the flexibilities of spindle and base plate. As a result, our theoretical prediction generally agrees well with our experimental measurements in vibration analysis. Moreover, Because of its small form factor, industrial practice is to use flanged disks instead of regular disks in vibration testing of prototypes. Our experimental measurements indicate that flanged disks and regular disks have very different behavior when the frequency is above 1 KHz.

The work presents the theoretical background and methodology to network analysis. This approach to information network has been widespread use in many researches of social science. Theoretically based idea of structural analysis of information flow were reviewed and the major perspective and the practical aspects of the analysis were discussed. To show an approach of the methodology to library environment, HISP project which analyzed the network structure of a health information dissemination to a health community was demonstrated.
