사전방재활동을 위한 태풍정보 콘텐츠 개발에 관한 기초 연구 (Preliminary study on Typhoon Information Contents Development for Pre-disaster Prevention Activities)

  • This study intend to induce citizen's voluntary preliminary disaster prevention activity to reduce damage of typhoon that occurs every year. For this purpose, a survey was conducted to develop Typhoon information contents. The number of samples used in the survey was set to 500 people, and citizens living in Jeju, Busan, and Jeonlanam-do were surveyed for areas with high typhoon disasters in order to develop practical and efficient information. The survey consisted of perception about natural disaster, how to get and use weather information, satisfaction with typhoon information and requirements. The general public perceived the typhoon as the first natural disaster. As a result of responding to the method of obtaining and utilizing weather information, the frequency of collecting weather information at the time of issuance of typhoon special report is higher than usual. The purpose of using weather information is clear and the response rate is high for the purpose of disaster prevention. The medium mainly collecting weather information is Internet portal site and mobile phone besides television. The current satisfaction with typhoon weather information is 34.8%, in addition to the accuracy of prediction, it is necessary to improve the information (that is content) provided. Specific responses to the content were investigated not only for single meteorological factors, but also for possible damage and potential countermeasures in the event of a disaster such as a typhoon. As can be seen from the above results, people are requested to provide information that can be used to detect and cope with disasters. The development of new content using easy accessible media will contribute to the reduction of damages caused by the typhoon that will occur in the future, and also to the disaster prevention activity.

Inferring Pedestrians' Emotional States through Physiological Responses to Measure Subjective Walkability Indices

  • Walkability is an indicator of how much pedestrians are willing to walk and how well a walking environment is created. As walking can promote pedestrians' mental and physical health, there has been increasing focus on improving walkability in different ways. Thus, plenty of research has been undertaken to measure walkability. When measuring walkability, there are many objective and subjective variables. Subjective variables include a feeling of safety, pleasure, or comfort, which can significantly affect perceived walkability. However, these subjective factors are difficult to measure by making the walkability index more reliant on objective and physical factors. Because many subjective variables are associated with human emotional states, understanding pedestrians' emotional states provides an opportunity to measure the subjective walkability variables more quantitatively. Pedestrians' emotions can be examined through surveys, but there are social and economic difficulties involved when conducting surveys. Recently, an increasing number of studies have employed physiological data to measure pedestrians' stress responses when navigating unpleasant environmental barriers on their walking paths. However, studies investigating the emotional states of pedestrians in the walking environment, including assessing their positive emotions felt, such as pleasure, have rarely been conducted. Using wearable devices, this study examined the various emotional states of pedestrians affected by the walking environment. Specifically, this study aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of monitoring biometric data, such as electrodermal activity (EDA) and heart rate variability (HRV), using wearable devices as an indicator of pedestrians' emotional states-both pleasant-unpleasant and aroused-relaxed states. To this end, various walking environments with different characteristics were set up to collect and analyze the pedestrians' biometric data. Subsequently, the subjects wearing the wearable devices were allowed to walk on the experimental paths as usual. After the experiment, the valence (i.e., pleasant or unpleasant) and arousal (i.e., activated or relaxed) scale of the pedestrians was identified through a bipolar dimension survey. The survey results were compared with many potentially relevant EDA and HRV signal features. The research results revealed the potential for physiological responses to indicate the pedestrians' emotional states, but further investigation is warranted. The research results were expected to provide a method to measure the subjective factors of walkability by measuring emotions and monitoring pedestrians' positive or negative feelings when walking to improve the walking environment. However, due to the lack of samples and other internal and external factors influencing emotions (which need to be studied further), it cannot be comprehensively concluded that the pedestrians' emotional states were affected by the walking environment.

지역별 여성의 인구구조와 취업특성 (Population and Employment Structure of Women by Region)

  • 이 논문은 통계청의 연구비지원으로 수행한 연구인 ‘여성인구의 특성 및 변화’의 일부로서, 인구학회와 통계청이 공동으로 개최한 <인구변화와 한국사회의 미래변화에 대한 세미나>에서 발표한 논문을 수정한 것이다. 여성의 인구구조는 지역간의 인구이동에도 불구하고 지역별로 상당히 다르고, 여성의 경제활동상태와 취업구조 또한 지역별 산업구조의 차이로 인해서 지역간에 상당한 차이를 보인다. 그럼에도 불구하고 지금까지 지역별 여성의 인구구조와 취업구조의 차이에 대한 연구가 거의 이루어지지 않고, 지방정부 또한 지역여성인구에 대한 특성을 제대로 파악하지 못하고 있다. 그 결과 지방정부가 수립${\cdot}$시행하고 있는 여성정책들의 실효성과 효율성은 상당히 낮은 것으로 평가되고 있다. 이에 본 논문은 <인구주택총조사> 2% 표본자료의 기술적인 분석(descriptive analysis)을 통해서, 지역별 여성의 인구구조, 경제활동상태, 취업구조 등에 대한 개괄적인 현황을 파악하고, 향후 지방정부의 여성정책에 대한 기본적인 방향을 제시하였다.

Standard Measurement Procedure for Soil Radon Exhalation Rate and Its Uncertainty

  • Background: Radon contributing about 42% of annual average dose, mainly comes from soil. In this paper, standard measurement procedures for soil radon exhalation rate are suggested and their measurement uncertainties are analyzed. Materials and Methods: We used accumulation method for estimating surface exhalation rate. The closed-loop measurement system was made up with a RAD7 detector and a surface chamber. Radon activity concentrations in the system were observed as a function of time, with data collection of 5 and 15-minute and the measurement time of 4 hours. Linear and exponential fittings were used to obtain radon exhalation rates from observed data. Standard deviations of measurement uncertainties for two approaches were estimated using usual propagation rules. Results and Discussion: The exhalation rates (E) from linear approach, with 30 minutes measurement time were $44.8-48.6mBq{\cdot}m^{-2} {\cdot}s^{-1}$ or $2.14-2.32atom{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ with relative measurement uncertainty of about 10%. The contributions of fitting parameter A, volume (V) and surface (S) to the estimated measurement uncertainty of E were 59.8%, 30.1% and 10.1%, in average respectively. In exponential fitting, at 3-hour measurement we had E ranged of $51.6-69.2mBq{\cdot}m^{-2} {\cdot}s^{-1}$ or $2.46-3.30atom{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ with about 15% relative uncertainty. Fitting with 4-hour measurement resulted E about $51.3-68.2mBq{\cdot}m^{-2} {\cdot}s^{-1}$ or $2.45-3.25atom{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ with 10% relative uncertainty. The uncertainty contributions in exponential approach were 75.1%, 13.4%, 8.7%, and 2.9% for total decay constant k, fitting parameter B, V, and S, respectively. Conclusion: In obtaining exhalation rates, the linear approach is easy to apply, but by saturation feature of radon concentrations, the slope tends to decrease away from the expected slope for extended measurement time. For linear approach, measurement time of 1-hour or less was suggested. For exponential approach, the obtained exhalation rates showed similar values for any measurement time, but measurement time of 3-hour or more was suggested for about 10% relative uncertainty.

2주간 경미손상의 발생률과 위험요인 - 2001년 국민건강영양조사자료를 이용하여 - (The Incidence Rates and Risk Factor of Mild Injury for Two Weeks - Using Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2001 -)

  • Objectives: This study was performed to provide the basic data for establishing countermeasures for preventing injury by analyzing the incidence rates, the risk factors, the characteristics of the injury and the utilization of medical care for mild injury that lasted for two weeks. Methods: We examined the injury survey data among the National Health and Nutrition Survey data. The definition of mild injury that lasted for two weeks was that the injury that caused pain at least once a day for two weeks or the injury for which the usual daily activity of the injured person was severely affected. We used statistical analysis methods such as chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: The incidence rate of injury that lasted for two weeks was 4.7 per 1,000 persons. On the multiple logistic regression, the children and adolescents (OR=3.80, 95%CI=1.63-8.84) had higher rates of injuries than the adults, and the middle and high school (OR=0.51, 95%CI=0.31-0.85) and college(OR=0.34, 95%CI=0.17-0.68) students had lower rates of injuries than the elementary school students. The unemployed (OR=0.39, 95%CI=0.20-0.73) and others (OR=0.38, 95%CI=0.21-0,70) had lower rates of injuries than the blue collar workers. The major causes of injuries were found to be falling and slipping, and the most prevalent place of occurrence was near or at home. Conclusions: A prevention program needs to be developed and continuous education must be offered to the children, adolescents and blue collar workers.

천식 증상을 가진 변형 협심증 환자에 대한 한방치료 증례보고 (A Case Report of Korean Medicine Treatment for A Patient with Variant Angina and Asthma Symptoms)

  • Objective: The purpose of this case study was to report the symptom improvement effect of integrative Korean medicine treatment based on Pyongsim Solution: Cheonwangbosim-dan in a patient with variant angina and asthma symptoms. Methods: This 68-year-old male patient was treated with Pyongsim Solution, Gamihyangsayukgunja-tang, Gwakhyangjunggi-san, acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and cupping therapy for 24 days. The European Quality of Life-5 Dimensions-5 Levels profile, Numerical Rating Scale score, and pulse rate per minute were measured on admission, at two weeks of hospitalization, and upon discharge to assess the clinical outcomes. Results: After treatment, the "mobility" dimension profile of the European Quality of Life-5 Dimensions-5 Levels changed from 1 to 1, "self-care" changed from 1 to 1, "usual activity" changed from 3 to 2, "pain/discomfort" changed from 4 to 3, and "anxiety/depression" changed from 3 to 2. The Numerical Rating Scale score for chest pain decreased from 7 to 5, chest tightness decreased from 6 to 4, sleep disturbance decreased from 6 to 3, polydipsia decreased from 5 to 3, and stomach discomfort decreased from 5 to 3. All the profiles of these five dimensions were unchanged for 11 days in the period between the two weeks of hospitalization and discharge. There were also no changes in the profiles of either "mobility" or "self-care" throughout the entire 24-day hospitalization period. Conclusion: This case report shows that integrative Korean medicine treatment based on Pyongsim Solution can improve the symptoms of patients with variant angina and mild intermittent asthma, suggesting that Pyongsim Solution could be an important herbal medication for treatment.

음용수의 섭취량 및 다경로 노출평가를 위한 노출변수 조사연구 (Daily Water Intake and Exposure Parameters Related to the Multi-route Exposure in Drinking Water)

  • Human exposure to volatile compounds in tap water can occur from inhalation and dermal absorption as well as direct ingestion. The relative contribution to total human exposure from these pathways has been considered to be important especially for VOC's (volatile organic compounds). In an attempt to reduce the uncertainty of the risk assessment, it has been suggested that the exposure assessment process could be significantly improved by adopting Monte-Carlo simulation. However, there is no actual data in Korea for each exposure parameter to determine the level of exposure, and the distributional pattern. Therefore, we surveyed water use patterns and behavior related to multi-route exposure to VOC's in household tap water in Korea, and compared these values to the those in western countries. In the first survey, we calculated daily water intake using data from a sample of 1322 persons of several cities in Korea. In the second survey, we obtained questionnaire data on exposure time for showering, bathing and household activities, and tap water intake from 851households in Korea. In the last survey, we measured the exposure parameters (exposure time, water use rate etc.) related to showers, baths, toilets, dish washing, washing and cooking, and tap water intake was surveyed. Also, the subjects were measured their body weight, height and tidal volume, etc. A diary, a flow meter and a measuring cup were used to measure these values as precisely as possible. Average daily water intake was ranged 0.79-1.71 L/day for adults in three surveys. Tap water intake measured by log-sheet during one week in third survey was 1.26 (average), 1.98 L/day (90 percentlie), respectively. These results were comparable with results from EPA (1.4, 2L/day). The average amount of water used by housewives in the third survey was 515.0 $\pm$ 564.6L/day. In usual activity, the amount of water used in the bathroom, the laundry and the kitchen was 140.0 $\pm$ 538.9, 148.0 $\pm$ 174.5, 229.3 $\pm$ 205.4 L/day, respectively. Exposure parameters such as water intake rate, exposure duration, body weight, inhalation rates in surveyed data of Korean people differed from those published from western countries. This could be attributed to variations in lifestyle, dietary habits and physiological characteristics.

한라산 성판악 등산로 노폭의 확대 속도와 요인 (Rates and Factors of Path Widening in Seongpanak Hiking Trail of Mount Halla, Jeju Island)

  • 한라산 성판악 코스 표고 $875{\sim}$1,400m 구간의 32개 지점에서 등산로 측벽의 후퇴량, 즉 노폭의 확대 속도를 관측하고, 확대 프로세스에 영향을 미치는 요인을 조사하였다. 2002년 10월부터 2008년 4월까지 발생한 측벽의 평균 후퇴량은 50.6mm로서 후퇴 속도는 10.0mm/yr이다. 연도별로는 2006년과 2003년에 각각 최대치 18.0mm/yr와 최소치 7.6mm/yr를 기록하였다. 관측 기간을 동결기와 비동결기로 구분하면 시기별 후퇴 속도는 19.3mm/yr와 4.3mm/yr이다. 비동결기를 다시 우기와 건기로 구분하면 후퇴 속도는 각각 5.9mm/yr와 2.9mm/yr이다. 계절별로는 겨울철(42.2mm/yr), 봄철(13.0mm/yr), 가을철(6.4mm/yr), 장마철(3.3mm/yr), 여름철(1.3mm/yr)의 순이다. 토양경도와 표고는 측벽의 후퇴 속도와 명료한 상관관계를 보이지 않으나, 동결기에는 남향보다 북향 측벽에서 후퇴 쏙도가 더 크다. 겨울철 후퇴량이 전체 후퇴량의 76.7%를 차지하고 있어 등산로 측벽은 주로 서릿발 작용으로 후퇴하는 것으로 판단된다. 조사 구간은 연간 85일 정도 서릿발이 발생할 수 있는 기후 조건을 지니고 있으며, 12월의 동결 진행기, 3월과 4월의 융해 진행기에는 서릿발로 덮여 있는 측벽의 모습을 쉽게 볼 수 있다. 반면에 한라산 동사면의 약한 풍속과 교목 지대에 위치하고 있는 등산로 특성상 취식과 우적침식은 탁월하지 않다. 등산로 노면의 포장 시설로 인하여 우세의 영향도 미약하며, 동물의 영향도 나타나지 않는다. 그러나 봄철에 융설로 생긴 물웅덩이를 피하여 걷는 등산객 때문에 크게 후퇴하는 측벽도 보인다.

농촌지역 주민들의 구취실태와 유발요인 (Halitosis and Related Factors among Rural Residents)

  • 본 연구는 농촌지역 주민들의 구취실태를 파악하고 구취에 관련된 요인을 알아봄으로써 구취예방 및 효율적인 구취제거 방안을 마련하는데 기초 자료를 제공하고자 일부 농촌지역의 주민 293명을 대상으로 2006년 1월 4일부터 1월 21일까지 면접설문조사(구강위생관리 행태, 구취관련 질병력, 구취실태), 구취측정, 구강검사, 치아우식활성검사(스나이더검사, 타액분비율검사, 타액완충능검사)를 실시한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 잇솔질 횟수는 1일 2회가 46.1 %로 가장 많았고, 여자가 남자보다 잇솔질 횟수가 많았다. 매일 혀솔질을 하는 군은 25.6%이었고, 보조 구강위생용품을 사용하는 군은 9.2 %이었다. 2. 평상시 구취를 자각하고 있는 사람은 62.5 %이었고, 구취를 가장 심하게 자각하는 시기는 기상 후가 72.7 %, 구취를 자각하는 부위는 잇몸에서 23.0 %, 구취의 유형으로는 구린 냄새가 37.2 %로 높게 나타났다. 3. 구취측정 결과 OG는 50 ppm미만이 54.3 %, $50{\sim}100ppm$ 범위에 41.6 %로 나타났고, $NH_3$$20{\sim}60ppm$ 범위에 52.6 %로 가장 높았다. 4. 구취관련 질병력별 OG는 치아우식증으로 인한 식편압입, 당뇨병과 구취에 대한 가족력군에서 $50{\sim}100ppm$ 범위에 유의하게 높았으며, $NH_3$는 호흡기계 질환군에서 유의한 차이가 있었다. 5 평상시 구취 자각정도별 OG는 '냄새가 나지 않는다'는 군과 '가끔 냄새가 난다'는 군에서 50 ppm 미만에 각각 55.9 %, 57.5 %로 나타났고, '본인이 느낄 정도로 항상 냄새가 난다'는 군과 '항상 심하게 냄새가 난다'는 군에서 $50{\sim}100ppm$ 범위에 각각 52.0 %, 63.6 %로 높게 나타났으며, $NH_3$는 모두 $20{\sim}60ppm$ 범위에 높게 나타났다. 6. 구강검사별 OG는 치수노출치와 식편압입이 많을수록, 설태지수가 높아질수록 $50{\sim}100ppm$ 범위에 OG값이 증가되었고, $NH_3$는 보철치가 많을수록, 설태지수가 높아질수록 유의하게 증가되었으며, 하악 국소의치군에서 60 ppm 이상으로 유의하게 증가되었다. 7. 스나이더검사는 고도활성이 43.0 %로 가장 높았고, 산 생성균의 활성이 높을수록 OG값이 증가되었다. 자극성 타액분비율 검사는 8.0 ml 이하에서 62.5 %로 가장 높았고, 타액분비율이 많을수록 OG값이 감소된 분포를 보였으며, 타액완충능검사는 0.1N 유산용액의 방울 수가 $6{\sim}10$ 방울에서 58.7 %로 가장 높았고, 타액완충능이 증가될수록 OG값이 냄새를 느끼지 못하는 50 ppm 미만에서 증가되었다. 8. 구강환경과 구취와의 상관관계에서 OG는 타액분비율, 보철치와 음의 상관관계를, 치수노출치, 충전치, 현존치, 설태량, 식편압입과 양의 상관관계를 보였으며, $NH_3$는 우식치와 음의 상관관계를, 보철치, 잇솔질 횟수와 양의 상관관계를 보였다. 9. 다중회귀분석 결과에서 OG에 영향을 주는 요인으로는 여자, 치수노출치, 보철치, 식편압입, 타액분비율, 설태지수, 스나이 더검사의 고도활성이 선정되었고 이들의 설명력은 45.1 %이었으며, NH3에 영향을 주는 요인으로는 여자, 치수노출치, 설태지수, 보철치가 선정되었으며 이들의 설명력은 6.6 %이었다. 이상의 결과를 볼 때, 조사대상 농촌지역 주민들의 구취실태는 구강환경 및 구취관련 요인, 치아우식활성검사의 스나이더 검사, 타액분비율검사와 밀접한 관련이 있음을 시사한다. 따라서 이들 주민들의 구취예방을 위해서는 식후에 올바른 잇솔질 방법 및 혀솔질과 더불어 보조 구강위생용품을 사용하여 식편압입과 설태제거를 해야 할 필요성이 강조된다. 구취의 원인과 그 성분은 매우 복잡하고 다양하므로 개인별 구취발생 요인을 정확하게 분석하기 위해서는 추후 계속적이고, 체계적인 연구가 필요하며, 보건(지)소의 치과위생사를 활용하여 지역사회 주민들에게 계속적인 구강보건교육 프로그램이 제공되어야 한다고 생각된다.

EQ-5D를 이용한 일개 광역시 성인의 건강관련 삶의 질 측정 (Measuring Health Related Quality of Life of General Adult Population in One Metropolitan City using EQ-5D)

  • Measurements of health related quality of life can be used to compare patients with specific conditions to average individuals in the general population in a similar age and gender group. However there are few data available regarding health related quality of life for the general population of Korea. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine the validity of the Korean version of EQ-5D and to measure the health related quality of life of the general adult population in a metropolitan city. The survey was cross-sectional and employed a stratified and multistage sampling design through 100 examination sites in 5 districts of UIsan. A total of 12,644 individuals from 4,112 households participated in the survey. Of these, we analyzed data from 8,068 adults who were over 19 years old and completed the EQ-5D. To examine the validity of the questionnaire, the differences in 5 dimensions and the $EQ-5D_{index}$ were analyzed with regard to demographic and socioeconomic factors such as sex, age, income, and education. In addition, visual analogue scales (VAS) were used to evaluate the overall health related quality of life issues of the respondents. The level of health related quality of life of the general adult population was then compared with the results from the third Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and other countries. There were a small number of people with problems related tomobility, self-care, and usual activity. In addition, many people complained ofpain/discomfort and anxiety/depression. The complaint rate in each dimension, VAS, and $EQ-5D_{index}$ indicated relatively better states for males, the younger group, the higher income group, and the higher education group. In addition, the level of health related quality of life of the general population of Ulsan was relatively higher than that of Koreans nationwide as well as the populations of other countries. EQ-SD provided a valid measure of the health-related quality of life of the general adult population. In addition, the results of a survey of Ulsan revealed that the quality of life of its population is better than that of the overall population of Korea and of the populations of other countries.
