We examined three nature restoration projects in urban areas of Japan, China, and Korea. A prefectural park(29ha) has been under construction since 2005 on an abandoned industrial site in the southern part of Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, central Japan. Shanghai Central Park(28ha) was redeveloped in 2002 on a site that was formerly the old downtown in central Shanghai. Seoul Forest Park was developed as a large urban park(116ba) in 2005 in Seoul. All three parks were developed as urban parks by local governments. Citizen involvement is common to all three examples. One of main purposes of the Hyogo prefectural park and the Seoul Forest Park was the reuse of unused or abandoned areas. One goal in Hyogo, Shanghai, and Seoul was to restore the urban ecosystem and preserve the environment. We discussed the meaning of nature restoration in urban areas.
The underground space of urban entertainment center can do various roles for urban development. Especially, the design of underground space using natural elements is necessary to sustainable development of facilities. The purpose of this study is to propose the elements, characteristics and application around interior environmental design using natural elements in underground space of urban entertainment center. The research methods of this study are research references, survey and field-study. This study can be concluded as follows; First, the factors of interior environmental design using natural elements in underground space of urban entertainment center are 'landmarks expression of natural elements', 'introduction and planning of daylighting', 'planning of materials using natural images', 'planning of ecological footpath' and 'planning of energy recycling'. Second, pedestrian space and openspace considering regional context are necessary. Third, introduction of daylight and design of artificial lighting in underground space are needed to making eco-friendly environment. Fourth, landmark design using various natural elements in underground space is needed to provide eco-friendly amenity. Fifth, the interior environmental design using natural elements is needed to community space in underground space. Sixth, eco-friendly pedestrian space in underground space is necessary. Seventh, interior environmental design using natural elements is needed to the entrance of underground space of urban entertainment center.
The purpose of this study is to identify effect in how urban garden is run by different operators in Korea, and consequently how it determines the level of community formation among urban garden users. Based on this analysis, the study is intended to present some points as to how to better manage urban garden. The operators are divided into three types: public, public-private partnership and private. The study interviewed each operating entity and surveyed garden users to gauge the extent to which communities are developed. After the ANOVA analysis and Scheffe post-hoc analysis, it was found that the levels of community formation among users of public and public-private partnership urban gardens were similar (so can be grouped together), whereas that of private urban garden users was higher (separated as another group). However, this study found no meaningful differences in the level of community formation among all types of urban garden in a local community. Some key suggestions are made as a result. First, as for the public and public-private partnership types of urban garden, it is necessary to foster leaders to build a community. Next, it is worth noting the potential of public-private partnership in realizing community revival through urban garden. The last suggestion is that, generally, the urban garden has only little influence on community formation in a local area so far, thus more practical consideration needs to be given to enhance the role of urban garden in a local community.

Urban park facilities and services offer a number of opportunities to fulfill individual, social, economic, and environmental benefits. Urban parks, provided through political measures as public goods, require balanced distribution in order to ensure social equity. The primary objectives of this study are to analyze the accessibility of urban parks and to examine whether urban parks are distributed equitably. GIS and statistical methods were used to investigate correlations between accessibility to neighborhood parks and socioeconomic status. As results, percentage of low-income population within the city was negatively related to park accessibility. Low-income dominated residential area, such as Sujeong-gu and Jungwon-gu have large low-income communities and less park accessibility compared with Bundang-gu, which are dominated by high-income residents. So, results from this study indicate that urban parks are not distributed equitably within Seongnam city. Therefore, creative strategies to provide urban parks for areas in need through the utilization of vacant lots, abandoned sites, and schools sites are necessary. Furthermore, budgetary priorities should be set to create new parks and revitalizing parks within the city's older neighborhoods are also needed.

This study aims to quantitatively evaluate the conservation priorities of unexecuted urban parks in Seoul both from an ecological and public perspective. To this end, two methodologies, ecological network analysis based on graph and circuit theory and accessibility analysis, were employed in order to assess ecological connectivity of and public accessibility to unexecuted parks, respectively. This study applied linkage-mapping methods (shortest path and current flow betweenness centrality) of connectivity analysis to an integrated map of landscape permeability. The population-weighted accessibility to unexecuted parks was measured based on a negative exponential distance decay function. As a result, for both ecological connectivity and accessibility, Gwanaksan, Suraksan, and Bulamsan urban natural parks are found to be the most important (rank 1-3) to be conserved. For these sites, inner park areas with conservation priorities for connectivity and accessibility were identified. The findings of the study can be used for giving conservation priority to the unexecuted urban parks in terms of long-term sustainable urban planning.
In high frequency environment such as microcell, it is requried to adopt a new method different from the empirical channel modeling applied in macrocell. In this thesis, measurement for residential area in Sinrimdong and the result of the simulation are compared and analyzed. Simulation technique utilizes 3D ray launching method to consider some factors which were not included in the ray tracing method. Propagation environment in the urban area shows the typical channel characterisitics of the propagation environment. Using 3D ray launching method, pathloss of the wave and delay characteristics of the signal with respect to the height of the transmitter is researched. If the transmitter is located on the top of the building, radiowave experiences diffraction on the rooftop and it influences the total received signal strength.

This paper discusses an autonomous navigation system for urban environments. For the localization of the robot, EKF (Extended Kalman Filter) algorithm is used with odometry, angle sensor, and DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System) measurement. Especially in an urban environment, DGPS is often blocked by buildings and trees and the resulting inaccurate positioning prevents the robot from safe and reliable navigation. In addition to the global information from DGPS, the local information of the curb on the roadway is used to track a route when the global DGPS information is inaccurate. For this purpose, curb detection algorithm is developed and implemented in the developed navigation algorithm. Four different types of navigation strategies are developed and they are switched to adapt to different localization conditions according to the availability of DGPS and the existence of the curbs on the roadway. The experimental results show that the designed switching strategy improves the navigation performance adapting to the environment conditions.

The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of ANRU, France's governance-type urban regeneration promotion organization, and to examine policy implications that can be used for domestic urban regeneration projects. The results of the study are summarized as follows. First, ANRU is established and operated as a national governance-type urban regeneration promotion organization in France, and ANRU is a central-led urban regeneration promotion organization, but it aims to operate a governance method in which various urban regeneration projects participate. Second, ANRU operates three urban regeneration programs nationwide: PNRU, NPNRU, and PNRQAD, and through administrative and financial support, it is promoting the improvement of the residential environment in the business district, diversification of urban functions, economic development, and social diversity. Third, it proposed the need for a national-level governance-type urban regeneration promotion organization for effective promotion and visible results of urban regeneration projects in Korea, the need for solidarity between local governments, and the use of public-private partnerships at various levels.

The evaluation of the quality of residential environment may be different according to the experts' characteristics. This study aimed at estimating the relative weights of the constituents of a residential environment by AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) through experts' evaluation. The respondent group was composed of 72 experts in the fields of architectural design, housing design, urban design, and urban planning. The findings are as follows(:) 1) the relative weights of residential constituents were different between detailed fields ; 2) the relative weights of residential constituents were not different according to institute in which experts are engaged ; and 3) for the practical application of estimation results of the relative weights, the relation between residential performance constituents and physical design elements should be considered in future.
This study is designed to explore the relationship between the level of housing satisfaction and housing values, as well as family characteristics and characteristics of residence. Questionnaires are administered to 526 adolescents from the four residential areas in Kwangju. Most of the adolescents are satisfied with their housing environment, especially indoors, however, they show a lower level of satisfaction toward the appearance and organization of the unit plan. It is found that the level of the safety, comfortability and social values predicted a meaningful variance in the level of housing satisfaction. Those with a higher degree of safety and social values tend to be associated with stronger housing satisfaction, whereas those with lower comfortability values are more associated with stronger housing satisfaction. Groups with higher household incomes are more likely to be satisfied with their housing environment. Groups living within a younger and larger house are more likely to be satisfied with their housing environment. Also, owners tend to show a stronger degree of housing satisfaction than renters.
