New bonding agent systems have been supplied which operators can simply apply to conditioned tooth surfaces. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strengths and the microleakages of three bonding agents and composite resins to dentin. Seventy-five extracted human maxillary and mandibular molar teeth were used in this study. For the shear bond strength test, the entire occlusal dentin surfaces of thirty teeth were exposed with Diamond Wheel Saw and smoothed with Lapping and Polishing Machine (South Bay Technology Co., U.S.A). For the microleakage test, Class V cavities were prepared in the buccal surfaces of fourtyfive teeth. They were randomly assigned into 3 groups according to dentin bonding agents ($Scotchbond^{TM}$ Multi-Purpose plus, ONE-$STEP^{TM}$ and Prime & $Bond^{TM}$)and composite resins (Z-100, $Aelitefil^{TM}$ and TPH $Spectrum^{TM}$) to be used. Bonding agents and composite resins were bonded to exposed dentin surfaces of the tooth crown and to Class V cavities on the buccal surfaces respectively according to manufacturer's directions. The shear bond strengths were measured by universal testing machine($U^{TM}$ AGS-100, Japan). In addition, the degree of micro leakage at the occlusal and gingival margin was examined by 2 % methylene blue and stereomicroscope(Olymous SZH 10, Japan). The results were as follows: 1. The shear bond strength to dentin was the highest value in SBMP-Plus group($16.68{\pm}7.38$ MPa) and the lowest value in Prime & Bond group($11.61{\pm}5.82$ MPa), but there was no significant difference of shear bond strength among three groups. 2. The degree of microleakage at both occlusal and gingival margin was showed the lowest in SBMP-Plus group and the highest in ONE-STEP group. 3. At both occlusal and gingival margin, there was significant difference of microleakage between SBMP-Plus and ONE-STEP/ Prime & Bond groups(p<0.05), but no significant difference of microleakage between ONE-STEP and Prime & Bond group(p>0.05).

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the physical properties of different automixing resin cements and the shear bond strength on dentin. For this study, two self-adhesive automixing resin cement(Rely-X Unicem(3M ESPE, St. Paul, USA), Embrace resin cement(Pulpdent, Oakland, USA)) and one chemical polymerizing resin cement(Resiment Ready-Mix(J.L.Blosser Inc., Liberty Missouri, USA)) were used. To evaluate the physical properties, compressive strength, diametral tensile strength and flexural strength were measured. The specimens were fabricated using Teflon mould according to manufacturers' instructions and stored for 24 hours in an atmosphere of 100% humidity. To evaluate the shear bond strength on dentin, each cements were adhered to buccal dentinal surface of extracted human lower molars in 2mm diameter. Physical properties and shear bond strengths were measured using universal testing machine(Z010, Zwick GmbH, Ulm, Germany) at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. The physical properties and shear bond strength of different automixing resin cements were statistically analyzed and compared between groups using One-way ANOVA test and Schffe post-hoc test at the 95% level of confidence. The result shows that chemical polymerizing automixing resin cement represents the relatively higher physical properties and shear bond strength than self-adhesive automixing resin cements.

Reinforcement corrosion is the principal cause of deterioration of reinforced concrete. It is to be expected that loss of bond between concrete and tension reinforcement would lead to a reduction in shear strength of RC beams designed to fail in shear. This paper presents results of a FE analysis study to evaluate the shear strength of RC beams with exposed reinforcement represented the limiting condition of bond loss.
In the present paper, an analytical model is proposed to determine the flexural and shear strength of normal and high-strength reinforced concrete beams with longitudinal bars, in the presence of transverse stirrups. The model is based on evaluation of the resistance contribution due to beam and arch actions including interaction with stirrups. For the resistance contribution of the main bars in tension the residual bond adherence of steel bars, including the effect of stirrups and the crack spacing of R.C. beams, is considered. The compressive strength of the compressed arch is also verified by taking into account the biaxial state of stresses. The model was verified on the basis of experimental data available in the literature and it is able to include the following variables in the resistance provision: - geometrical percentage of steel bars; - depth-to-shear span ratio; - resistance of materials; - crack spacing; - tensile stress in main bars; - residual bond resistance including the presence of stirrups;- size effects. Finally, some of the more recent analytical expressions able to predict shear and flexural resistance of concrete beams are mentioned and a comparison is made with experimental data.
This study done to evaluate some surface treatment methods in metal coping which can increase the bond strength between porcelain and metal. Therefore this experiment was performed according to the Mc Lean's Theory of bond strength between porcelain and strength between porcelain and metal. In the experiment the author measured respective thermal expansion coefficents in three types of metal(Tallasium, Vera Bond and Rexillium) and Vita Porcelain to get the differences in the coefficents between porcelain and metals. And using insteron testing machine, the author also performed Planar interface shear bond tests on the 45 specimens(15 specimens in oxide surface, rough surface and fine surface treatment methods respectively) to measure bond strength between metal and porcelain. The results Were as follows, 1. The differences in thermal expansion coefficients between three types of metal and Vita procelain: Talladium - $1.2\;10^{-6/0}\;C$, Vera Bond - $1.6\;10^{-6/0}\;C$, Rexillium - $1.9\;10^{-6/0}\;C$. 2. The bond strength in oxide surface on the Shear bond test was the lowest among the treatment methods. 3. There was no significant differences in treatment methods of rough surface of fine surface. 4. In the oxide surface treatment method, there were significant differences(P<0.05)between Vera bond and Rexillium, and between Talladium and Rexillium. 5. In the fine surface treatment, there was a significant difference(P<0.05)between Talladium and Rexillium.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical usefulness of 4 self etching primers by measuring the shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets and examining the failure pattern of bracket-tooth interfaces. Methods: Seventy-five, defect-free, premolars were randomly assigned into five groups: control group (37% phosphoric acid + Transbond XT primer) and self etching primer treated groups (Transbond Plus self etching primer, Unifil bond, Clearfil SE bond, and Adhese). The shear bond strength was measured with a universal testing machine and the amount of residual adhesive remaining on the brackets after debonding was assessed by the adhesive remnant index (ARI). Results: The results showed that the groups conditioned with self etching primer had significantly lower shear bond strength than the control group (p < 0.05), although clinically acceptable. However, there were no significant differences in shear bond strength among the self etching primer groups (p > 0.05). Evaluation of the ARI scores indicated there was less resin remnant on the teeth in the groups conditioned with self etching primers, although not statistically significant. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that all four of the self etching primers have shown acceptable bond strength for clinical use.
Recent reports indicate that shorter etching times than 60 seconds can be adopted without affecting the bond strength and clinical disadvantages. The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the shear bone strength and to measure depth of etch at different etching time length. One hundred and eight extracted bovine lower central incisors were embedded each in a tooth cup with cold-cure acrylic resin. The facial surfaces of the teeth were ground wet with 600-, 800-, 1000-, and 1200-grit Sic papers, and finally polished with a water slurry of extrafine silicon carbide powder, washed with tap water, and dried with hot air. Nine groups of nine prepared teeth were etched with a commercial($38\%$ phosphoric acid solution) for 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 60, 90, and 120 seconds, respectively, rinsed with tap water, and dried with hot air. One conditioned teeth from every group was selected randomly for the scanning electron microscopic examination, and the remaining eight teeth of the groups were used for measuring the push shear bond strength after bonding brackets and immensing them in the $36.5^{\circ}C$ water for 24 hours. Another nine groups of three teeth were used for measuring the depth of etch and surface roughness with a surface profilometer. after pieces of adhesive tape of 3mm inner diameter positioned on the ground enamel surfaces, and etched with the above mentioned. The data obtained form the above expeiments were analysed statistically with one way ANOVA and Dunkan's multiple range test with the $95\%$ confidence level. The results and conclusion of the study were as follows; 1. The results of shear bond strength for the given experimental etching times were not statistically different, but showed the tendency of decreasing shear bone strength after over 60 seconds etching times. 2. On the scanning election microscopic examination, it was observed that the morphological patterns of etched enamel surface for 5 to 20 seconds were similar and consitent, and those for 30 to 120 seconds showed increasing over-etched patterns depending on the length of etching times. 3. The depth of etch was increased almost proportionally by the length of etching times, but it was not associated with the shear bond strength. 4. The surface roughness increased depending on the length of etching times, but it was not associated with the shear bond strength. 5. This experiment indicated that proper etching time with $38\%$ phosphoric acid solution is in the range of 5 to 30 seconds.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare HEMA and TEGDMA as diluents for the composite resin. Material and methods : Eight kinds of experimental light curable composite resins were prepared and used. Concentrations of monomer and filler were same for all experimental composites, except, the diluent's ratios to the monomer. The ratio of diluents to Bis-GMA were 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%, and two kinds of diluents were used, so total experimental groups were eight including one control group of 25% TEGDMA. Results : Depth of cure, flexural strength, shear bond strength to bovine enamel, shear bond strength to bovine dentin, water absorption and solubility of composites in water were measured. Sample size for each groups were 10. Arithmetic means were used as each groups representative values, and regression test for two diluents and low concentrations, Duncan's multiple range test, and Two-way ANOVA test were done for kinds of diluents and its concentrations at level of 0.05. Conclusion : Following results were obtained ; 1. There were not significant differences in effects of HEMA and TEGDMA to depth of cure, flexural strength of composites and shear bond strength to bovine enamel (p>0.05). 2. Increase of the concentrations of the diluents made the depth of cure (p<0.001) and flexural strength (p<0.05) a little higher. 3. Shear bond strength to dentin was higher on HEMA containing composites than TEGDMA containing composites (p<0.001). 4. Water absorption was higher on HEMA containing composites than TEGDMA containing composites (p<0.01).

According to extensive use of composite resin which have superior esthetic property, every effort on improving bonding strength between a tooth and composite resin has been continued. Acid etching technique is a method that micro-etches the tooth surface which provides bonding with composite resin possible. Recently, there were several reports that mechanical treatment obtained from air-abrasion can provide similar bonding strength with acid etching technique. So, this experimental study was designed to compare the shear bonding strength between using air-abrasion technique and using acid etching technique. Initially, bovine teeth were divided into enamel and dentin experimental groups. Respectively each group was categorized into three subgroups. One subgroup was acid etched with 35% phosphoric acid, then bonded with composite resin. The other subgroup was air-abraded with $50{\mu}m$$Al_2O_3$ particles sprayed with 160psi air pressure using air abrasion unit(KCP-1000, A.D.T., U.SA), and composite resin was bonded. In another subgroup, composite resin was bonded after acid etching following air-abrasion. So, enamel experimental groups were made of E1 (acid etched only), E2(air-abraded only), E3(acid etched following air-abraded), and dentin experimental groups were made of D1(acid etched only), D2(air-abraded only), D3(acid etched following air-abraded). Each subgroup had 10 specimens. Dentin bonding system(Scotchbond Multi-purpose, 3M Co., U.S.A.) and composite resin(Z-100, 3M Co., U.S.A.) were applied on treated surface using 5mm diameter gelatin capsule as manufacturer's direction. After 1200 times thermocycling between $5^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$, shear bond strength was measured in 5mm/min crosshead speed with Instron(Instron Co., U.S.A.), and also treated enamel and dentin were observed with SEM(JEOL Co., Japan). The following results were obtained: 1. In the enamel experimental groups, acid etched following air-abraded group had highest shear bond strength, but there was no significant difference compared to acid etched group. Air-abraded only group had lowest shear bond strength, and there was significant difference compared to the rest of groups. 2. In the dentin experimental groups, acid etched following air-abraded group had highest shear bond strength, but there was no significant difference compared to acid etched group. Air-abraded only group had lowest shear bond strength, and there was significant difference compared to the rest of groups. 3. In the SEM study, air-abraded enamel and dentin had irregular and rough surfaces.
Statement of problem : Limited research on flowable resin has been undertaken on its application directly on dentin associated with the adhesive systems. Purpose : This study was to evaluate the shear bond strengh and fracture aspect of flowable resin on human dentin with various types of dentin bonding adhesives with thermo cycling effect. Materials and methods: Filtek-Flow(3M ESPE, USA) was used as flowable resin and Eighty human molars were randomly divided into 4 groups : three dentin bonding adhesives (Scotchbond-Multipurpose : 3-step contentional system, One-Step : One-bottle system. Prompt L-Pop : All-in-one, self-etching primer) and 32% etching treatment without bonding adhesive as a control group. For evaluating their durability of bonding, each group was subdivided : storaging in the water at 37$^{\circ}C$(24 hours) and thermocycling (0$^{\circ}C$-55$^{\circ}C$, 30 seconds intervals, 1000 cycle). Shear bond strength tests were performed and resin-dentin interface and fracture mode were observed. Results were analysed by one-way ANOVA and Scheffe's multiple range test. Results and Conclusion : 1. At 0 cycle, the mean shear bond strength of One-Step exhibited the highest value of all groups(p<0.05), and there were no significant differences between Prompt L-Pop and Scotchbond-Multipurpose, Scotchbond-Multipurpose and control(p>0.05). After 1000 thermocycling, One-Step exhibited higher value than other groups(p<0.05), and there were no significant differences among other groups (p>0.05). 2. The shear bond strength of each group was significantly decreased after thermocycling except Scotchbond-Multipurpose (p>0.05). 3. The most common failure mode was adhesive type and mixed type, next in order.
