Analysis of Elementary Pre-Service Teacher's Difficulties in Conceptual Understanding and Instructional Planning of Light Refraction (빛의 굴절에 대한 초등예비교사의 개념이해와 지도계획의 어려움 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the questions generated by elementary school pre-service teachers when reading the teacher's guide for the refraction of light, and to analyze the difficulties in understanding the concept and in making instructional plans. A total of 592 meaningful questions were generated by 283 elementary school pre-service teachers after reading the teacher's guide of 'light and lens' unit in the 6th grade of the 2015 revised curriculum. Of these, 306 questions are for understanding the concept of physics and 286 are pedagogical questions. As a result of the analysis, in terms of understanding the concept of physics, the elementary school pre-service teachers encounter difficulties in understanding the concept of the 'cause' of the phenomenon suggested in the textbook, such as the cause of refraction, the reason for scattering light, and the cause of the image change depending on the focal length of the convex lens. In terms of instructional planning, it was followed by questions about how to explain concepts, questions about not being able to explain concepts to elementary school students and having to teach only phenomena, specific explanation methods for specific concepts, and experimental methods. Although the teacher's guide contains various explanations and supplementary materials to help teachers understand the concept, it can be seen that there are many elementary pre-service teachers who cannot answer questions about some concepts even after reading the guide. For concepts with a high frequency of questions, it is necessary to prepare a tutorial that is more understandable. In the instructional plan, there were many questions about teaching methods and experimental methods, so it is necessary to provide more examples and specific experimental methods for explaining concepts in the teacher's guide.

  • The purpose of this paper is to report the whole process of developing Korean Standard Speech Database (KSS DB). This project is supported by SPO (Supreme Prosecutors' Office) research grant for three years from 2014 to 2016. KSS DB is designed to provide speech data for acoustic-phonetic and phonological studies and speaker recognition system. For the samples to represent the spoken Korean, sociolinguistic factors, such as region (9 regional dialects), age (5 age groups over 20) and gender (male and female) were considered. The goal of the project is to collect over 3,000 male and female speakers of nine regional dialects and five age groups employing direct and indirect methods. Speech samples of 3,191 speakers (2,829 speakers and 362 speakers using direct and indirect methods, respectively) are collected and databased. KSS DB designs to collect read and spontaneous speech samples from each speaker carrying out 5 speech tasks: three (pseudo-)spontaneous speech tasks (producing prolonged simple vowels, 28 blanked sentences and spontaneous talk) and two read speech tasks (reading 55 phonetically and phonologically rich sentences and reading three short passages). KSS DB includes a 16-bit, 44.1kHz speech waveform file and a orthographic file for each speech task.

  • A Case Report of Communication disorder associated with Post-stroke Objectives : The Objective Is the Report of Improvement in Communication Disorder Associated with Post-Stroke. Methods : Acupuncture And Medicinal Treatments Were Performed from 17th March 2006 until 8th April 2006. The Medicines Bangpungtongsung-san and Chungpesagan-tang Were Used to Improve Patient Bowel Movement. The Sa-Am Acupuncture Method Was Used to Improve Patient Communication Disorders. Every 5 Days Articulation Accuracy, Vowel Accuracy, Alternation and Speed of Reading Sentences Were Evaluated. Results : After 23 Days of Treatment There was Improvement of Articulation Accuracy, Alternation and Speed of Reading Sentences.

English Learning Application by Animation and Multimedia Software (애니메이션과 멀티미디어 소프트웨어의 영어 학습 연구)

  • With the development of computer technology, the multimedia mediums that allow for animated videos, conversational illustrations are increasingly receiving attention for materials for educational purposes. Accordingly, there is a need to research whether multimedia resources and material is more effective compared to traditional educational material and resources. This study aims to compare traditional English reading and writing learning methods with learning methods using educational multimedia mediums such as illustrations or animation. Students were divided into a experimental group and a control group, and during 6 months the groups were exposed to different educational resources and on the basis of student evaluation feedback and grades, a new approach to English education is offered.

The Study on Improvement of Reading Ability for Dyslexia Wearing Color filter lens (ChromaGenTM Lens) (칼라필터 렌즈(ChromaGenTM)를 이용한 읽기능력 향상에 대한 임상연구)

  • Purpose: In this study we investigated improvement degree of reading ability of the student who was in a condition of dyslexia symptoms by wearing $ChromaGen^{TM}$ lenses. Methods: After wearing the $ChromaGen^{TM}$ lens for 3 months, the dyslexia symptoms corrective lens, 52 students who had suspected symptom of dyslexia were asked questions, and we measured the improvement degree of reading ability of the student. Results: The $ChromaGen^{TM}$ wearer read 110.26${\pm}$22.07 words in 1 minute, and naked yeses or glass wearing students read 106.42${\pm}$22.70 words. Reading ability of the student having suspected symptom of dyslexia were measured after wearing $ChromaGen^{TM}$ for 3 months. The results showed improvement reading ability of 3.70${\pm}$0.29 (p=0.01, t=2.26), 4.50%${\pm}$0.10 (p=0.01, t=2.78) for $ChromaGen^{TM}$ wearer with statistical difference. A survey on the satisfaction of reading improvement with wearing $ChromaGen^{TM}$ showed that 88.4% of questioned person answered wearing $ChromaGen^{TM}$ had improved their dyslexia symptoms. Conclusions: With statisical significance (p<0.05). this study suggests that $ChromaGen^{TM}$ lens has an effect on improving reading speed of dyslexia patient. We know from these results that the $ChromaGen^{TM}$ lens which is used to dyslexia had an effect to improvement of reading speed for dyslexia. And the results of this study is statistically different (p<0.05).

The Effect of Color Filter on the Reading Ability in Teenager with Irlen-Syndrome (얼렌증후군에서 컬러필터가 읽기능력에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of improving read speed with color filter or without color filter to improve reading disorder of teenager who were diagnosed as Meares-Irlen syndrome through survey inspection with Meares-Irlen syndrome visual stress (MISViS) score. Methods: MISViS subjects were selected from screening survey MISViS results given above 2.13 in the clinical criteria scores (MISViS score). Reading speed were measured quickly and efficiently the rate of reading via test in which randomly ordered common words are read aloud during a minute. Each of the subjects were worn a filter of the lowest concentration in each color filter group composed of 15 groups. Results: MISViS score of MISViS group and control group were 2.57 and 0.66, respectively. Results of reading speed with filter and without filter in MISViS group were $102.27{\pm}27.86$ wpm and $118.87{\pm}26.99$ wpm (p=0.001), respectively, as well as were $132.93{\pm}6.88$ wpm and $133.43{\pm}6.64$ wpm (p=0.131) in the normal group. Associated with error changes with filter and without filter between two groups, skipping in MISViS Group were from $0.25{\pm}0.62$ times to 0 times (p=0.191), Errors were from $1.83{\pm}1.69$ times to $0.17{\pm}0.38$ times (p = 0.004) and, repetitions were 0. skipping in control group were 0 times, errors were from $0.21{\pm}0.43$ times to $0.07{\pm}0.27$ times (p=0.336) and, repetitions were from $0.14{\pm}0.36$ times to 0 (p=0.165). The filter of blue series chosen in MISViS group had higher percentage (40%), whereas, subjects in normal group were more likely to prefer the filter of gray color (29%). Conclusions: This study showed that MISViS score have been used as a significant diagnosis for Irlen syndrome screening. This study found that wearing suitable color filter for MISViS patients were useful to improve learning with regard to reading. Unique color filter selection for MISViS subjects must be carefully considered since fit color filter are different personally.

A Discussion on Image Analysis in 18F-Florbetaben PET/CT (18F-Florbetaben PET/CT 검사에서 영상분석에 대한 고찰)

  • Purpose 18F-Florbetaben (FBB) Readings are made by visually comparing the signal strengths of gray matter and white matter. We intend to evaluate the usefulness of image analysis by comparing quantified image analysis with readout. Materials and Methods Based on the reading results, 100 patients were divided into a negative scan and a positive scan, and 300 MBq of FBB was injected, and images were taken 90 minutes later for 20 minutes. The equipment was a Discovery 600 (GE Healthcare, MI, USA). Four regions of interest (lateral temporal lobes, frontal lobes, posterior cingulate & precuneus, and parietal lobes) were established based on the amyloid reading standard provided by the manufacturer. For image analysis, SUVratio (SUVr) was calculated by dividing each SUVmean by the cerebellum, and the average SUVr in the entire area was performed. Statistical analysis analyzed the cutoff derivation through ROC Curve, the difference between groups in Independent sample t-test, and the degree of agreement with the reading result through Kappa test. Results The average SUVr cutoff in the entire area was 1.23. Concordance with the read results using cutoff was 95/100 (95%) for negative and 92/100 (92%) for positive. As a result of the t-test, there was a statistically significant difference between the groups (P < 0.05), and the Kappa statistical result showed a high degree of agreement with 0.867 (P < 0.05). Conclusion The results of image analysis were statistically significant and showed a high degree of agreement with the reading results. In addition, FBB image analysis can be viewed by 3D mapping the area where amyloid is accumulated, location estimation is possible, and quantitative analysis results can be viewed in detail. If quantified FBB image analysis is used as an auxiliary indicator, it is thought to be helpful in reading.

The Effectiveness Study of Education Connected to School Library Followed by Free-semester System (자유학기제에 따른 학교도서관 연계 교육의 효과성 연구)

  • This study has been made under the purpose of revealing the real effectiveness of Library Application Education, Life and Career Education and Reading Education in order to seek for the activation of school library and right roles of librarian teachers and subject teachers through connected to school library educations according to the free-semester system. For that, the survey was made to 73 teachers and 112 students, who already experienced connected library educations. As a result, the most frequent educations made by teachers and students was Reading Education, the second one was Library Application Education and the least one was Life and Career Education. In the aspect of effectiveness in teachers and students, the result came out quite meaningful and for teachers, especially the manner in the field of expertism, the satisfaction level of teachers was high in Life and Career Education in format style and creativity in source materials. For the students, the meaningful effectiveness shows in interaction field. Based on the research: first, study about various models of Reading Education which will be applied in connected to school library education according to the free-semester system. Second, additional researches are necessary for the expansional aspect of Library Application Education, Life and Career Education and Reading. Third, continuous studies are essential for the elements which can contribute effectiveness. Fourth, offering many strategical methods are essential to demonstrate creativity for the increase in satisfaction level for teachers.

A Study of Legibility by Monitor Letter Color with an Eye Tracker (아이트래커를 이용한 모니터 글자 색상에 따른 가독성에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose: This study will be a basic research providing data which can reduce eye strain using monitor and electric media by measuring legibility of text color on monitor. Methods: Total experimental subjects who don't have color anomaly and best corrected visual acuity was over 1.0 were 50 and their mean age was $22.83{\pm}1.47$. Reading speed test were carried out with 163 words and subjects who could read over 123 words were selected for legibility examination. Monitor background color was white and letter colors were black, blue, red, and yellow for the legibility examination. Results: In case of text color of black, blue, red, and yellow, Event duration(sec) was measured to 41.89, 42.89, 45.32, and 56.28, respevtively, and reading error (number) was measured to 1.94, 2.74, 3.36, and 5.14. Average of fixation duration(sec) was measured to 0.25, 0.26, 0.27, and 0.32. Conclusions: In this paper, event Duration, reading error and average of fixation duration which can measure the legibility was reduced in a sequence of black blue, red, and yellow.

Relationships between a Calculated Mass Concentration and a Measured Concentration of PM2.5 and Respirable Particle Matter Sampling Direct-Reading Instruments in Taconite Mines (타코나이트 광산 공정에서의 실시간 질량측정기기와 실시간 수농도의 환산에 의한 질량농도와의 연관성)

  • Objectives: The purposes of this study are to investigate workers' exposures to respirable particles generated in taconite mines and to compare two metric methods for mass concentrations using direct-reading instruments. Methods: Air monitorings were conducted at six mines where subjects have been exposed primarily to particulate matters in crushing, concentrating, and pelletizing processes. Air samples were collected during 4 hours of the entire work shift for similarly exposure groups(SEGs) of nine jobs(N=37). Following instruments were employed to evaluate the workplace: a nanoparticle aerosol monitor(particle size range; 10-1000 nm, unit: ${\mu}m^2/cc$, Model 9000, TSI Inc.); DustTrak air monitors($PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$, unit: $mg/m^3$, Model 8520, TSI Inc.); a condensation particle counter(size range; 20-1000 nm, unit: #/cc, P-Trak 8525, TSI Inc.); and an optical particle counter(particle number by size range $0.3-25{\mu}m$, unit: #/cc, Aerotrak 9306, TSI Inc.). Results: The highest airborne concentration among SEGs was for furnace operator followed by pelletizing maintenance workers in number of particle and surface area, but not in mass concentrations. The geometric means of $PM_{2.5}$ by the DustTrak and the Ptrak/Aerotrak were $0.04{\mu}m$(GSD 2.52) and $0.07{\mu}m$(GSD 2.60), respectively. Also, the geometric means of RPM by the DustTrak and the Ptrak/Aerotrak were $0.16{\mu}m$(GSD 2.24) and $0.32{\mu}m$(GSD 3.24), respectively. The Pearson correlation coefficient for DustTrak $PM_{2.5}$ and Ptrak/Aerotrak $PM_{2.5}$ was 0.56, and that of DustTrak RPM and Ptrak/Aerotrak RPM was 0.65, indicating a moderate positive association between the two sampling methods. Surface area and number concentration were highly correlated($R^2$ = 0.80), while $PM_{2.5}$ and RPM were also statistically correlated each other($R^2$ = 0.79). Conclusions: The results suggest that it is possible to measure airborne particulates by mass concentrations or particle number concentrations using real-time instruments instead of using the DustTrak Aerosol monitor that monitor mass concentrations only.
