  • This paper describes an optimal design method which is applied a weighted least square (WLS) method for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system. An optimal design approach is presented for a homogeneity superconducting magnet with the superconducting active shield especially for a magnetic resonance imaging system. The WLS is used to obtain the optimal configurations using the least amount and minimum volume of conductor, exhibiting the smallest level of field inhomogeneity and resulting in the least level of stray field. The proposed model is used to design a multiple-shield configuration for a 1.5 T MRI magnet. The field homogeneity is required less than 5 gauss stray field contour within 4m axially and 3m radially from origin. The designed magnet with the actively magnetic shielding coil out of main coils is analyzed by FEM and theoretical analysis method, investigated the field homogeneity.

  • An analytic expression for equivalent square fields and a table are derived using the empirical representations obtained from the measured field size dependence of output for square field in a phantom. The expression is applicable to radiation fields that consistent with the following two assumptions Imposed on these representations. 1) It is a linear function of the logarithm of the field area, and 2) It is approximately the same function for both square and circular field of similar areas. In this paper, the derived tables and BJR table were consulted.

  • The Minimum-Norm Least-Square(MNLS) approach based on lead field theory is an useful method to find an unique inverse solution for the measured magnetic field. The lead field depends on head geometry and location of sources and sensors. So, optimization of sensor array location is important issue for MNLS estimation. In this paper, we present an investigation for the optimization of sensor array location in computer simulation.

  • In this letter, a parametric analysis of the Fresnel-field antenna measurement method is performed for a square aperture. As a result, the optimum number of Fresnel fields for one far-field point is guided as $M_{opt}=N_{opt}=D^2/{\lambda}R+5$, where D is the antenna diameter, ${\lambda}$ is the wavelength, and R is the distance between the source antenna and the antenna under test. For the aperture size 5 ${\leq}$ $L_x/{\lambda}$ ${\leq}$ 20, the tolerable distances for gain errors of 0.5 dB and 0.2 dB can be guided as $R_{0.5\;dB}$ ${\approx}$ $1.2Lx/{\lambda}$ and $R_{0.2\;dB}$ ${\approx}$ $2.0L_x/{\lambda}$, where $L_x$ is the lateral length of the square aperture. The tolerable distances for 20 ${\leq}$ $L_x/{\lambda}$ ${\leq}$ 200 are also proposed. This measurement guideline can be fully utilized when performing the Fresnel-field antenna measurement method.

  • A discrete vortex method (DVM) has been developed at the Department of Aerospace Engineering, University of Glasgow, to predict unsteady, incompressible, separated flows around closed bodies. The basis of the method is the discretisation of the vorticity field, rather than the velocity field, into a series of vortex particles that are free to move in the flow. This paper gives a brief description of the method and presents the results of calculations on static and transversely oscillating square section cylinders. The results demonstrate that the method successfully predicts the character of the flow field at different angles of incidence for the static case. Vortex lock-in around the resonance point is successfully captured in the oscillatory cases. It is concluded that the vortex method results show good agreement, both qualitatively and quantitatively, with results from various experimental data.

  • In this paper, the arc region of a gas circuit breaker (GCB) is analyzed using the fast moving least square reproducing kernel method (FMLSRKM) which can simultaneously calculate an approximated solution and its derivatives. For this problem, an axisymmetric and inhomogeneous formulation of the FMLSRKM is used and applied. The field distribution obtained by the FMLSRKM is compared to that of the finite element method. Then, a whole breaking period of a GCB is simulated, including analysis of the arc gas flow by finite volume fluid in the cell, and the electric field of the arc region using the FMLSRKM.

  • Time Stretched Pulse (TSP) is used for transmitting and analyzing the impulse signal over the designated spatial place. However, if transfer functions of transmitter and receiver are unknown, performance investigation of free field in temporal domain is barely possible due to the overlap between the direct and indirect signal from the space. Generally, the free field or hemi-free field is evaluated by the Annex A of ISO 3745 in which utilizing the inverse square law with one-third octave band signals. In this paper, the author performs analysis of free field via applying TSP with inverse square law and the results are compared with the one-third octave band signals. According to the analysis of deviation between the corresponding signal and inverse square law model, the proposed TSP method provides the comparable performance index to the one-third octave band signal with reduced measuring time. Provided that the pre-whitening can be implementable by employing the speaker and microphone transfer function, further analyses from TSP compression are able to be performed such as multipath separation from time domain data. The anechoic chamber used in this experiment is verified conformance with ISO 3745 for free field and hemi-free field condition for limited frequency of the signal.

  • This paper describes an on-line magnetic distortion calibration procedure for a magnetometer. The horizontal magnetic field is calculated through the earth magnetic field sensed by 3-axes magnetometer. The ellipse equation is derived from a set of horizontal magnetic field data using least square method and calibration parameters are determined. The calibration process is performed iteratively until parameters are not renewed, and experimental results show the effectiveness of the devised method.

  • The paper is devoted to study a mesh-free analysis method of structural elements of engineering structures based on B-spline Wavelet Basis Function. First, by employing the moving-least square method and the weighted residual method to solve the structural displacement field, the control equations and the stiffness equations are obtained. And then constructs the displacement field of the structure by using the m-order B-spline wavelet basis function as a weight function. In the end, the paper selects the plane beam structure and the structure with opening hole to carry out numerical analysis of deformation and stress. The Finite Element Method calculation results are compared with the results of the method proposed, and the calculation results of the relative error norm is compared with Gauss weight function as weight function. Therefore, the clarification verified the validity and accuracy of the proposed method.
