Purpose: In this study, we investigated the effects of GDB(Gidaebang) on the immune response to establish the treatment mechanism of vaginitis. Methods: We examined the effects of GDB on the DCs(Dendritic cells) phenotypic and functional maturation. iDCs were cultured in the presence of GM-CSF and the generated iDCs were respectively stimulated by GDB or LPS as the control group for 24 hours. To evaluate the DCs phenotypic and functional maturation, we used flow cytometric analysis, RT-PCR and ELISA. Results: 1. GDB upregulated the expression of class II MHC and CD40 on DCs. 2. GDB upregulated the expression of CD80 and CD86 on DCs. 3. GDB induced cytokine IL-12 production and mRNA expression in DCs. Conclusion: These results suggest that GDB is able to improve the antigen-presenting capacity of DCs through the upregulation of their maturation, and might induce proliferation of T cells. In conclusion, this immunomodulatory properties of GDB may be useful in the treatment of vaginitis.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analysis on the Stress Response Inventory(SRI) and Heart Rate Variability (HRV) of some dysmenorrhoea patients. Methods: We studied 34 patients visiting OO Medical Center from May 2007 to November 2007. And the severity of dysmenorrhoea were measured by Multidimensional Verbal Rating scale(MVRS), Verbal Rating scale (VRS) and Visual Analog Scale(VAS). And SRI and HRV were recorded. Results: According to comparison of Means of HRV values among the groups, most of them were not statistically significant. But the comparison of Means of SRI, the points of almost all values were kept by order of Severe-Moderate-Mild-None group. Most of them are statistically significant. According to correlation analysis between dysmenorrhoea scale and HRV, most of them were not statistically significant. But the correlation analysis between HRV and SRI, there were some correlations. And the correlation analysis between SRI and dysmenorrhoea scale, most of them were statistically significant. According to General Linear Model of Dysmenorrhoea $scale^{\ast}SRI$ and HRV. Dysmenorrhoea scale and SRI influenced values of HRV. But it is hard to conclude the relationship between Dysmenorrhoea $scale^{\ast}SRI$ and HRV Conclusion: The results suggest that stress is related to dysmenorrhoea. But the relation between dysmenorrhoea and HRV was hard to conclude. We need more study for settling the relation between dysmenorrhoea and HRV.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the perception that women in 20s and 30s have on Traditional Korean Medical(TKM) treatment on the leukorrhea. A questionnaire was given to 50 women and we studied 47 except 3 questionnaire which have inappropriate answer. Results: 1. In 47 women, 46(97.9%) women have heard about leukorrhea, 1(2.1%) woman hasn't heard about it. 2. In 32 women who suffered from the leukorrhea, 14(43.8%) women checked up for leukorrhea. 18(56.2%) women doesn't checked. 10 of 14 women took the medical treatment (drug or injection) and 2 of 14 women took the TKM treatment. 3. In 32 women, 16(50.0%) women know about TKM treatment for leukorrhea, 16(50.0%) women don't know. 4. In 32 women, 20(62.5%) women have intention of TKM treatment for leukorrhea, 2(6.2%) women don't have, and 10(31.3%) women don't know. The biggest obstacle was the high cost of TKM treatment. Conclusions: Many women are willing to take TKM treatment on the leukorrhea. We need more accumulation of data for demonstrating the efficacy and safety of TKM treatment.
Purpose: This study was designed to investigate enhancing the immunogenicity effects of Platycodon grandiflorum(PG) on adaptive immune system. Methods: To investigate the effect of PG as an adjuvant, we used the ovalbumin (OVA) as an antigen at first. The proliferation of lymphocytes, the antibody titer, the subisotypes of antibodies and the production of cytokines were measured. Results: The proliferation of lymphocytes and the antibody titer were increased after PG treatment. The increased subisotypes of antibodies were IgG2 and IgG3 induced from T1-helper cells. However IgE induced from T2-helper cells was decreased. The production of cytokines derived from T1-helper cells was increased but that from T2-helper cells was decreased. Conclusion: It is supposed that PG has an immunogenicity effect as an adjuvant on adaptive immune system.
