This paper is an effort to critique the heteronormative interpretations of Kate Chopin's The Awakening and to examine the relationships of three women-Edna Pontellier, Adele Ratignolle, Mademoiselle Reisz-in the homosocial climate of the Grand Isle. Through the disclosure of erotic encounters between these women and their deferred gratification, Chopin reveals the social imperative which suppresses and fixates female desire on a male object choice. Chopin also sheds light upon the masculine language appropriating romance and chivalry that renders it impossible for Edna to articulate her sexuality within the matrix of the phallocentric society. The Awakening is not a conventionalized plot which ends in Edna's subordination to the patriarchal order; rather, the story demonstrates the "process" of how her sexual awakening becomes negotiated under the patriarchal system and exposes the excess of desire that fails to be subsumed under the hegemonic discourse.

On the website r/NYYankees, a sub-forum ("subreddit") of Reddit is devoted to the Major League Baseball team New York Yankees, with its predominantly male users showing their appreciation for baseball heroes by expressing erotic desires towards the players. When a player performs well, the subreddit is filled with admiration of desires to become the player's intimate lover-explicitly expressed by "male" fans. This paper explains the phenomenon of young male fans' desire for the now-lost model of traditional masculinity of domination and control, displayed in the context of baseball players' dominant performances. The discrepancy between a fan's non-homosexual real-world self and his homoerotic language on the subreddit is explained using the "performative fandom" theory, developed by Osborne and Coombs borrowing Butler's notion of performativity. This paper suggests how this desire for traditional masculinity serves as recognition to the collapse of masculinity in the modern American society.

We conducted an examination of 243 female adolescent fandom members in order to understand the relationship of the engagement in fandom activities, love attitude, and ego-identity. Researchers used three scales of 'Engagement in Fandom Activities', 'Love Attitude' (Hendrick & Hendrick, 1986) and 'Ego-identity' (Dignan, 1965). Correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were applied after data was collected depending on the scales. The study showed that the degree of engagement and the tendency towards erotic love behavior had a positive correlation. The correlation with the sub-domains of ego-identity were positive with role-expectation and self-assertiveness while self-awareness was negative. All four factors affected the degree of engagement in fandom activities. It is meaningful that research help to understand the characteristic of female adolescent fandom and simultaneously investigate the effective factors of engagement in fandom activity.

This study analyzes the women's hair style and costume in late Chosun Dynasty appeared in Shin Yoon Bok' genre painting. Conclusions are as follows; First, in case of woman costume, the Jergori was short and the Chima was too long. The trend of simplified clothes on upper body and abundant clothes on lower body appeared. In addition, as 'geodulchima' became popular, women came to of en show an erotic beauty by exposing their underwear below chima. Second, in the women's hair style appeared in Shin Yoon Bok' genre painting, a unmarried woman did the braids and a feme covert did 'Ungeon Meori' and 'Tremeori'(a swept-back hair with the chignon) regardless of status. We can imagine the women's hair styles of a higher class who imitated those of 'Kie-sangs' through the features of Kie-sangs who were illustrated by Shin yoon bok.

Two utilitarian and symbolic objects associated with womanhood in Cambodian culture are the stove and the pot. The pot is a symbol of both the womb and female sexuality; the stove is a symbol of gendered feminine labor. This article argues that the sexist representations of the Khmer female body by modern Cambodian male artists demonstrate an inherited legacy of Orientalist stereotypes. These images were formed : under French colonialism and often depict Khmer women as erotic/exotic native Others. Starting in the 1970s, however, if not earlier, Cambodian women began to question the gendering of social roles that confined them to domestic space and labor. This form of social questioning was especially present in pop songs. In recent years, contemporary Cambodian woman artists such as Neak Sophal and Tith Kanitha have made use of rice pots and stoves in their art as freighted symbols of femininity. Neak created an installation of rice pots from different households in their village, while Tith rebelled against this gendered role by destroying cooking stoves as an act of defiance against patriarchy in her performance art.

This thesis, concerning Femme Fatale Images Costume Form in paintings viewed from DeLong's Theory, analyzed frequency and traits on the basis of DeLong's Form Observation Theory and drew out the result as followings. First, Costume Form was mostly open, whole, planer integration, rounded, and indeterminate. The styles were similar each other. Second, surface structure was expressed by line & shape, color, texture, and pattern of which color had the highest priority. Next, line & shape and texture had the priority in order. They were expressed through intereaction. Third, the traits of Costume Form were a similar color harmony or large light and darkness contrast+soft quality+interaction by ambiguous line & shape. So, Femme Fatale Image in paintings was expressed by soft and pure images and erotic images.

The purpose of this study is to compare the similarity of clothing between Modern and Gothic, and between Post-Modern and Renaissance Period. The results are as followes: The beauty of ideal body was changed from unemphasis of body line to emphasis of the erotic espects of body. The style of clothing was changed from simple and functional in order to give freedom in action, to various and complicated in from, and even uncomfortable in order to emphasize individuality. Decoration on clothing like details, trimmings, and various accessories were not prefered in Gothic and Modem Period, but very popular in Post-Modern and Renaissance Period.

새로운 간장질환 치료제로 개발중인 YH439가 orotic acid, nicotinamide 및 ethionine에 의해 유발되는 지방간에 대한보호 및 치료효과를 관찰하였다. 웅성 SD계 rat에 orotic acid(1%) 또는 nicotinamide(2%)가 첨가된 사료를2주간 섭취시켜 유발된 지방간에 대한 YH439의 보호 및 치료효과와 ethionine(100mg/kg, i.p.)투여로 유도되는 지방간에 대한 YM439의 보호효과를 관찰하기 위하여 간 조직 중 triglyceride, cholesterol 및 phospholipid의 함량을 측정하여 비교하였다. 그 결과, erotic acid 또는 nicotinamide의 섭취로 인해 랫드의 간 조직 중 triglyceride, cholesterol 및 phospholipid의 함량은 1.5-3배정도 증가하였으며, 이 증가된 지질들은 YH439 100, 200mg/kg 투여에 의해 유의성 있게 억제되었다. 또한 ethionine투여에 의해서도 랫드의 간 조직 중 triglyceride, cholesterol 및 phospholipid의 함량은 약 2배정도 증가되었으며, YH439 전저치에 의해 이 현상들이 억제되는 효과를 나타내었다.

The antioxidative activities of capsaicin (Cap, 0.02 and 0.04%) on the lipid peroxidation of tissues in male Sprague Dawley rats fed diets with or without orotic acid (1.0%, w/w) were studied in vivo system by measuring thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) concentrations. Body weight gain, food intakes, food efficiency ratio and the relative tissues weights of brain, kidney, spleen, heart, and testis were not significantly different among dietary groups. Relative weights of liver were higher in the OA group than that in the other groups. TBARS concentrations in liver were significantly higher in the OA or 0.04% Cap groups than in the normal group, while this raise was not observed 0.02% Cap group. A significant increase in TBARS concentrations was found in the liver of the OA +0.04% Cap group compared with the OA or the 0.04% Cap groups. Nonheme iron concentrations were significantly higher in the liver of the OA, 0.04% Cap, OA+0.02% Cap, OA+0.04% Cap groups than that in the normal group. TBARS concentrations in kidney were lower in the 0.02% or 0.04% Cap groups than that in the normal group, but this concentrations were higher in either the OA, OA+0.02% Cap or OA+0.04% Cap groups than that in the normal group. Meanwhile, TBARS concentrations of brain, spleen, heart and testis were not significantly different among groups. The present study suggested that the lipid peroxidation was increased in the rats liver fed diet with erotic acid, and the simultaneous supplementation of capsaicin further enhanced.

In this study, for the purpose of correct viewing on the image of Africa and understanding of modem fashion, African image and art, the general characteristics of African costume, the background of fashion subjecting African image, and the trend according to ages were examined based on theoretical background. Then the researcher drew African image by analyzing the works in four 2005 S/S major fashion collections to designers and design factors. The ten voted designers' and brands' works in 2005 S/S collections had four concepts of African image; 'Wild Erotic', 'Abstract Primitive', 'Natural Elegant' and 'Sporty Romantic'. The viewpoint of modem fashion on African image from the aspect of design, designer and fashion trend can be examined as below. First, African costume, which was religious and ceremonial, appeared to emphasize its esthetic side with decorative details in modem fashion design and designers competed to choose a method to harmonize tradition and modem style and by adopting these from occult to decorative meaning, Second, fashion designers presented city unpolished beauty of modem women to a special style and made african image to be recognized as a code of fashion culture by integrating it with modem people's mind to go back to the past and admiration for the purity of nature. Third, thanks to the instinctive vitality hidden in the primitive life, inspiration for creative design that is found in the esthetic mind of the Indians, foreign taste emphasizing ethnic trend, and admiration to naturalism due to the increase of concern over ecology, 'African image' led the beginning of 21C trend by being settled as a in fashion trend.
