  • This paper describes a system which enables a real-time measurement of 2-D water flow field. One distinctive feature of our system is that velocity vectors of water flow are obtained from the movement of tracer particles at video rate. In order to enable a fast measurement a real time video processor and two Digital Signal Processor(TMS32OC25) are employed. The real-time video processor extracts contours of tracer particles in order to reduce the amount of image data to be processed. And two DSP(Digital Signal Processor) analyse the correlation of every tracer paticle in the consecutive two images to obtain the velocity distribution of water flow.

  • In a hot water extraction process, the flow pattern of upper region in a storage tank is a major reason of mixing between hot water and cold water. In this study, the temperature distribution in a storage tank was measured to predict the flow pattern of upper region, and the degree of stratification was analysed to the variables dominating a extraction process. And also, it was found that the degree of stratification improved expecially in a low flow rate in case of using modified distributor I(DMI) as a outlet port type.

  • In this paper an experimental study was investigated for two-phase flow distribution in compact heat exchanger header. A test section was consisted of the horizontal bottom dividing header($\phi$: 5 mm, L: 80 mm) and 10 upward circular mini channels ($\phi$: 1.5 mm, L: 850 mm) using an acrylic tube. Three different types of tube intrusion depth were tested for the mass flux and inlet mass quality ranges of 50 - 200 kg/$m^2$s and 0.1 - 0.3, respectively. Air and water were used as the test fluids. The distribution of vapor and liquid is obtained by measurement of the total mass flow rate and the calculation of the quality. Two-phase flow pattern was observed, and pressure drop of each channel was measured. By adjusting the intrusion depth of each channel an uniform liquid flow distribution through the each channel was able to solve the mal-distribution problem.

  • Two phase flow phenomena are observed in many industrial facilities and make much importance of optimum design for nuclear power plant and various heat exchangers. This experimental study has been investigated the classification of the flow pattern, the local void distribution and convective heat transfer in swirl and non-swirl two phase flow under the isothermal and nonisothermal conditions. The convective heat transfer coefficients in the single phase water flow were measured and compared with the calculated results from the Sieder-Tate correlation. These coefficients were used for comparisons with the two-phase heat transfer coefficients in the flow orientations. The experimental results indicate, that the void probe signal and probability density function of void distribution can used into classify the flow patterns, no significant difference in voidage distribution was observed between isothermal and non-isothermal condition in non-swirl flow, the values of two phase heat transfer coefficients increase when superficial air velocities increase, and the enhancement of the values is observed to be most pronounced at the highest superficial water velocity in non-swirl flow. Also two phase heat transfer coefficients in swirl flow are increased when the twist ratios are decreased.

  • In water treatment plants, open channel is used to distribute incoming flow to parallel treatment unit, such as flocculation basin and sedimentation basin. These control devices must be designed so that the incoming flow evenly distributed to the process unit. this is important in the view of optimizing process unit. In the recent past. significant insights into the sedimentation process have been developed. In this study, the 2-D computer program is developed to investigate fluid flow field and velocity vectors in flocculation sedimentation inlet distribution weir and calculate flow rates in each inlet weir. The specific purpose of this study is to analyze physical design factors, such as now rates, shape of channel, tapered angle in tapered type channel and main channel width.

  • The water quantity by intake station as well as the tributary flow discharge acting as sink or source were added to the main flow rate in the present study and RMA-2 and RMA-4 models were applied to the reach from Pal-dang dam to Jam-sil submerged weir to investigate the influence of water supply withdrawal on the river flow and water quality. The numerical results revealed that the water supply withdrawal from 5 intake stations located upstream of Jam-sil submerged weir changed the total flow rate and therby induced different hydraulic characteristics in terms of water surface elevation and velocity. The changed flow field by the inclusion of water intake quantity led to the variation of water quality. By the consideration of the water supply withdrawal, the velocity structure was significantly disturbed by the outflowing flow condition nearby Gu-ui, Ja-yang, and Pung-nap intake stations. Furthermore, the mean velocity was lowered by 25% and the stage upstream of Gu-ui station rose upto 1.5 cm compared with the result by exclusion of water intake. In case of no water withdrawal, the distribution of BOD concentration was parallel throughout the domain. However, when the water withdrawal is considered, the distribution of BOD concentration nearby the Gu-ui, Am-sa, and Ja-yang station was signifiantly changed. In addition, the BOD concentration including the intake stations showed higher value at the downstream of the reach due to the loss of the discharge by water withdrawal effect. It is concluded that both the inflow and outflow discharges from tributaries and water intake stations should be included in the numerical simulation to analyze the hydrodynamic behaviors and mixing characteristics more accurately.

  • This study conducts the flow analysis on the basis of the impeller RPM of water measuring valve and differential pressure at valve inlet and outlet. The software used for the flow analysis is STAR-CCM+. In terms of the structure of the measuring valve, it has an impeller installed inside, and a metering chamber has inlet and outlet holes. The flow analysis on the water measuring valve drew the following conclusions: The flow rate and flow coefficient distribution according to the impeller RPM and differential pressure were on the linear increase. Regarding the flow field in the valve, the increased differential pressure had the highest velocity distribution, and complex flow field was generated in the measuring chamber. In particular, since the path between the inlet and outlet holes in the measuring chamber and the valve body was narrow, there was a section that had flow field interference. Given that, it showed the feature of the valve used for water measuring on the basis of the impeller RPM.

  • A dynamic water quality model is presented in order to simulate water quality under slowly varying flow conditions over time. To improve numerical accuracy, the proposed model uses a lumped system approach instead of extended period simulation, unlike the other available models. This approach can achieve computational efficiency by assuming liquid and pipe walls to be rigid, unlike the method of characteristics, which has been successfully implemented in rapidly varying flows. The discrete volume method is applied to resolve the advection and reaction terms of the transport equation for water quality constituents in pipes. Numerical applications are implemented to the pipe network examples under steady and unsteady conditions as well as hydraulic and water quality simulations. The numerical results are compared with EPANET2, which is a widely used simulation model for a water distribution system. The model results are in good agreement with EPANET2 for steady-state simulation. However, the hydraulic simulation results under unsteady flows differ from those of EPANET2, which causes a deviation in water quality prediction. The proposed model is expected to be a component of an integrated operation model for a water distribution system if it is combined with a computational model for rapidly varying flows to estimate leakage, pipe roughness, and intensive water quality.

  • This study has been prepared for the purpose of developing the system performance prediction method of natural circulation solar hot water system. The storage tank of the natural circulation solar hot water system equipped with flat-plate solar collector is located at higher elevation than the solar collectors. Therefor, the storage tank temperature distribution formed accordance with configuration of storage tank by flow rate of circulating fluid affect system collection efficiency. In this study measure the storage tank temperature distribution with various experimental system under real sun condition and present the theoretical prediction method of the storage tank temperature. Moreover measure the flow rate not only day-time but also night-time reverse flow rate with die injection visual flow meter. Main conclusion obtain from the present study is as follows; 1) The storage tank temperature distribution above the connecting pipe connection position is the same as that of the fully mixed tank and below the connection position is the same as that of stratified tank. 2) The system performance sensitive to the storage tank temperature distribution. Therefore detailed tank model is necessary. Average storage tank temperature can be calculate 3% and storage tank temperature profile can get less than 10% difference with this model system.

  • The ocher jjimjilbang for a single-person household that will be studied in this study is 2.1 ㎡ in size, and this study was conducted to implement well-being room heating that is beneficial to health by supplying radiant heat provided by hot water during room heating by embedding hot water panels in the walls of the ocher jjimjilbang to configure a hot water circulating system. In addition, the ocher bed and the ocher walls, which have been verified through many study findings and reference materials, were constructed so that the living life with a bed and the ocher jjimjilbang would be implemented simultaneously. As the mass flow rate of the hot water increased, the magnitude of the wall temperature rise thanks to the hot water increased, and as the flow rate of the hot water increased, the transfer rate of the heat transferred from the wall of the ocher jjimjilbang to the air inside the wall of the ocher jjimjilbang increased.
