Reasonable Optimum Design of Prestressed Concrete Structures (프리스트레스트 콘크리트 구조물의 합리적인 최적설계)

  • This study was carried out to find out the reasonable optimum design method for the design of prestressed concrete structures. The optimum design problems were formulated and computer programs to solve these problems were developed. To test the reliablity, efficiency, possibility of application and reasonablity of optimum design problems and computer programs, both continuous optimization method and mixed-discrete optimization method were applied to the design of prestressed concrete composite girder and application results were discussed. It is proved that mixed-discrete optimization method is more reliable, efficient and reasonable than continuous optimization method for the optimum design of prestressed concrete structures.

Exact and approximate solutions for free vibrations of continuous partial-interaction composite beams

  • An exact dynamic analytical method for free vibrations of continuous partial-interaction composite beams is proposed based on the Timoshenko beam theory. The main advantage of this method is that the independent shear deformations and rotary inertia of sub-beams are considered, which is more in line with the reality. Therefore, the accuracy of eigenfrequencies obtained by this method is significantly improved, especially for higher order modes, compared to the existing methods where the rotary angles of both sub-beams are assumed to be equal irrespective of the differences in the shear stiffness of each sub-beam. Furthermore, the solutions obtained by the proposed method are exact owing to no introduction of approximated displacement and force fields in the derivation. In addition, an exact analytical solution for the case of simply supported is obtained. Based on this, an approximate expression for the fundamental frequency of continuous partial-interaction composite beams is also proposed, which is useful for practical engineering applications. Finally, the practicability and effectiveness of the proposed method and the approximate expression are explored using numerical and experimental examples; The influence factors including the interfacial interaction, shear modulus ratio, span-to-depth ratio, and side-to-main span length ratio on the eigenfrequencies are presented and discussed in detail.

Receding horizon tracking control as a predicitive control for the continuous-time systems

  • This paper proposed a predictive tracking controller for the continuous-time systems by using the receding horizon concept in the optimal tracking control. This controller is the continuous-time version of the previous RHTC (Receding Horizon Tracking Control) for the discrete-time state space models. The problems in implementing the feedforward part of this controller is discussed and a approximate method of implementing this controller is presented. This approximate method utilizes the information of the command signals on the receding horizon and has simple constant feedback and feedforward gain. To perform the offset free control, the integral action is included in the continuous time RHTC. By simulation it is shown that the proposed method gives better performance than the conventional steady state tracking control.

Discrete Sizing Design of Truss Structure Using an Approximate Model and Post-Processing (근사모델과 후처리를 이용한 트러스 구조물의 이산 치수설계)

  • Structural optimization problems with discrete design variables require more function calculations (or finite element analyses) than those in the continuous design space. In this study, a method to find an optimal solution in the discrete design of the truss structure is presented, reducing the number of function calculations. Because a continuous optimal solution is the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker point that satisfies the optimality condition, it is assumed that the discrete optimal solution is around the continuous optimum. Then, response values such as weight, displacement, and stress are predicted using approximate models-referred to as hybrid metamodels-within specified design ranges. The discrete design method using the hybrid metamodels is used as a post-process of the continuous optimization process. Standard truss design problems of 10-bar, 25-bar, 15-bar, and 52-bar are solved to show the usefulness of this method. The results are compared with those of existing methods.

  • It has been established that a crack has an important effect on the dynamic behavior of a structure. This effect depends mainly on the location and depth of the crack. Toidentifythelocation and depth of a crack in a structure, a method is presented in this paper which uses neuro-fuzzy-evolutionary technique, that is, Adaptive-Network-based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) solved via hybrid learning algorithm (the back-propagation gradient descent and the least-squares method) and Continuous Evolutionary Algorithms (CEAs) solving sir ale objective optimization problems with a continuous function and continuous search space efficiently are unified. With this ANFIS and CEAs, it is possible to formulate the inverse problem. ANFIS is used to obtain the input(the location and depth of a crack) - output(the structural Eigenfrequencies) relation of the structural system. CEAs are used to identify the crack location and depth by minimizing the difference from the measured frequencies. We have tried this new idea on beam structures and the results are promising.

A Study on Vibration Serviceability Evaluation of Continuous Slab Bridges (연속슬래브교의 진동사용성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • Extraordinary displacement and vibration by heavy vehicle causes passengers to feel mental uncomfortableness and bridge to be damaged. To increase serviceability, the research on the human influence for vibration to happen at the bridge has been performed for a long time in oversea but it does not draw concern relatively in the domestic. The purpose of this research is to develop an evaluation method for vibration serviceability of continuous slab bridge. This research is focused on establishing theoretical method to assess vibration serviceability of bridge considering natural frequency, displacement, and acceleration since the criteria for the human responses to vibration is generally based on frequency band. By examining the characteristics of vibration serviceability which has been assessed with human response curve through field experiments as well as analytical study, the evaluation method of vibration serviceability for continuous slab bridges is proposed. Based on applications to the example of continuous slab bridge, the simple evaluation of vibration serviceability in the paper may be used in the initial step of design practice.

Analytical solution for free vibration of multi-span continuous anisotropic plates by the perturbation method

  • Accurately determining the natural frequencies and mode shapes of a structural floor is an essential step to assess the floor's human-induced vibration serviceability. In the theoretical analysis, the prestressed concrete floor can be idealized as a multi-span continuous anisotropic plate. This paper presents a new analytical approach to determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes of a multi-span continuous orthotropic plate. The suggested approach is based on the combined modal and perturbation method, which differs from other approaches as it decomposes the admissible functions defining the mode shapes by considering the intermodal coupling. The implementation of this technique is simple, requiring no tedious mathematical calculations. The perturbation solution is validated with the numerical results.

An Error Pattern ROM Compression Method for Continuous Data (연속된 데이터를 위한 에러패턴 ROM 압축 기법)

  • This paper proposes a new error pattern ROM (EP-ROM) compression method for continuousdata. The EP-ROM reduces the ROM size by dividing the continuous data into coarse values and their errors and by storing the indices of error patterns instead of the non. This method significantly reduces the ROM size by exploiting the characteristic that the errors for continuous data possess the same patterns. The experiment results show that the EP-ROM achieves 60∼77% ROM size reductions for various continuous data.

  • The purpose of this research is for the development of a new type forging equipment. H.C.G.(Hyundai Continuous Grain-Flow), by using two virtual build-up tools, rigid viscoplastic FEM and downsized plasticine experiment. This forging method consists of only vertical pressuree. Therefore, high quality crankshafts can be forged with this method as it can maintain a continuous grain flow. The factors considered in the development of equipment are die geometry for flawless deformed shape, die reaction forces, stress/strain distributions and continuous material flow. We carried out several numerical simulations and downsized plasticine experiments for the proper design of the forging equipment. The validity of those simulation results is confirmed by checking with the actual test results. Based on these simulation results, the proper design of the H.C.G. forging equipment is enabled.

  • The specially orthotropic plate theory is used to analyse three-span continuous composite slab bridges with elastic intermediate supports. A method of calculating the natural frequency corresponding to the first mode of vibration of beams and tower structures, with irregular cross sections and with arbitrary boundary conditions, was developed and the result of application of this method to the three-span continuous composite slab bridges with elastic intermediate supports is presented. This type of bridge represents either concrete or sandwich type three-span bridge on polymeric supports for passive control or on actuators for active control. Any method may be used to obtain the deflection influence surfaces needed for this vibration analysis. The finite difference method is used for this purpose in this paper. The influence of flexural stiffnesses and the modulus of the foundation are studied.
