  • Objective : Photodynamic therapy (PDT) using topical aminolevulinic acid (ALA) has increasingly been used for the treatment of acne vulgaris and several studies have shown its clinical efficacy. However, ALA-PDT needs a relatively long incubation period and is frequently associated with adverse effects. Triptophan and Riboflavin has been introduced as a new photosensitizer for the treatment of acne recently. Method : 11 patients with acne vulgaris were received PDT with tryptophan and riboflavin four to six times over two to three months. The photos of each patient were taken before and after treatment. Result and conclusion : PDT with tryptophan and riboflavin may be an effective and safe treatment for the Acne vulgaris patients.

  • Objectives : The prevalence of Allergic Rhinitis (AR) has increased during the last decade. However, a lot of decisions on the assessment and treatment of AR are made depending on the personal experiences and choices of physicians. To suggest preferable approaches and to minimize the variations according to physicians, guidelines for assessing anterior nasal cavity using nasal endoscopy on AR is needed. Methods : The Korean Oriental Medical Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology and Dermatology Society and the Korean Oriental Preventive Medical Society has set out to develop the guidelines for the assessing anterior nasal cavity using nasal endoscopy on AR. Results & Conclusions : This is the first Korean guideline for the assessment of AR and should be revised and supplemented in the future as new evidence becomes available.

The patient received Korean medicine treatments including acupuncture, herbal-medicine, pharmacopuncture at Daegu Haany University Korean medical hospital. We evaluated the degree of improvement in prurigo nodularis by using the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and counting nodules. Results : After treatments, the results of this patient showed improvements on pruritus, nodules. Nodules are removed, and pruritus decreased from VAS 10 to VAS 1. Conclusions : This study suggests that Korean medicine treatment may be effective on prurigo nodularis.

Method : We studied 29 research papers relevant to Acne that published in JKOOD from 1998 to 2013. All the paper were classified into three categories; original article, review article and case report. We sub-classified the original articles into three categories; descriptive study, analytic study and experimental study. We analyzed the case report according to various types of treatment. Results : 1. The number of searched journals is 29 papers; 17 original ordicles, 4 review articles, 8 case reports. 2. Classification of 17 original articles into three categories; 10 experimental studies, 7 descriptive studies, 0 analytic study. 3. Method of Evaluation; Korean Acne Grading System(KAGS) is used frequently in descriptive studies and experimental studies. 4. Treatment in Case reports; 7 Case reports used External medical treatments. • Background and Objective : Erythema nodosum-like lesions in patients with Behcet's disease is a reactive dermatosis that occurs in response to various stimuli, such as bacterial, fungal and viral infections, drugs and malignancies. We observed and treated a case of erythema nodosum-like lesions with Behcet's disease. We present this case because there were no former reports of erythema nodosum-like lesions with Behcet's disease treated by herbal medicine. Methods : The patient was a 28-year-old. The chief complains were erythema, nodose, edema, burning sensation, tenderness on both legs, forearms and feet, arthralgia and genital ulcers. She was treated with Wolbi-Tang for eleven days. We diagnosed the medication according to the results of manual abdominal examination of the patient. We used the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). Results : After the treatment the grade of VAS was decreased and clinical symptoms were improved. Conclusions : Wolbi-Tang can be used on the treatment of erythema nodosum-like lesions with Behcet's disease.

Methods : We have classified the patients according to the Shanghanlun six meridian patterns diagnostic system and the patients are treated with Huini-san. The severity of Atopic dermatitis was evaluated by SCORAD index, visual analogue scale(VAS) and pictures. Results : After the treatment the SCORAD index and VAS of 2 patients dicreased significantly. Conclusions : Huini-san and acupunture treatment has improved the symptoms of Atopic dermatitis in this study.

  • Objectives : This study is designed for analysis of trend and curative effect of Korean medicine for idiopathic external ophthalmoplegia. Methods : Research studies related to objectives were gathered through OASIS and KTKP and analyzed. Results : 21 case reports were selected. 5 korean medicine therapies, Herb, acupuncture, moxibustion, electroacupuncture, and pharmacopuncture, were executed. Restorative herb including Bojungikki-tang was frequently used in herb therapy. Facial and cephalic acupoints and non-facial, non-cephalic acupoints which individually differ were mostly simultaneously executed as acupuncture therapy. Also, moxibustion was partly performed. Electroacupuncture was carried out to affected area with electric stimulation at the strength of 1Hz and 4Hz. Hominis placental pharmacopuncture, 0.1cc or 0.5cc for each acupoint, was injected on disease area. After analyzing number of Korean medicine treatment and period of Korean medicine treatment from 21 case reports, the recovery period of idiopathic external ophthalmoplegia, 36.6 treatment session/36.69 days, was assessed to be more than one month shorter than previously known recovery period. Number of treatment sessions and treatment period for 11 cases when pharmacopuncture or electroacupunture was applied were 10/29, 35/29.96, which was 15 days shorter in terms of treatment period and 10 times less in terms of number of treatment sessions compared to cases when pharmacopuncture or electroacupunture was not applied. Conclusions : Korean medicine treatment can be effective for recovery of idiopathic external ophthalmoplegia.
