  • It can be suggested that social geography in the 2000s in Korea has achieved a considerable development, dealing with various theories and issues. This suggestion can be identified first of all with the publication of several texts of Social Geography in this period. For important theoretical discussions, the neoliberal glocalization process of capitalist economy has promoted geographical researches from the perspective of political economy, and the development of information and communication technology, increasing foreign immigrants, environmental problems such as the global warming, and social participation and empowerment of women in Korea have increased social geographical concerns with and theoretical discussions on informational society and city, multiculturalism and/or transnationalism, political ecology and environmental justice, and feminism. This paper provides a review on these major issues in recent theoretical discussions in social geography in Korea, and suggests a brief comment on its future development.

  • Two kinds of QMF(Quadrature Mirror Filter) pairs are used in JPEG2000 standard, which don't have QMF distortions. However, the QMF pairs have the main disadvantages such that there are gentle roll-off rate, ripples in the passband and unequal band decomposition. In this paper, Maxflat(maximally flat) QMF pairs with a half-band gain are proposed for overcoming these problems. Maxflat QMF pairs are realized due to generalized closed-form formulas, and the filters have maximally flat response in the passband/stopband as well as sharp roll-off rate in the transition band. Comparing proposed filters and JPEG2000's filters in frequency domain, it is found that proposed filters have better performance JPEG2000's filters. Moreover, Maxflat QMF pairs show stopband-attenuation exceeding 200 dB almost everywhere.

  • Shi (2000) claims that topics must be related to a syntactic position in the comment, thus denying the existence of dangling topics in Chinese. Under Shi's analysis, the dangling topic sentences in Chinese are not topic-comment but subject-predicate sentences. However, Shi's arguments are not without problems. In this paper we argue that topics in Chinese can be licensed not only by a syntactic gap but also by a semantic gap/variable without syntactic realization. Under our analysis, all the dangling topics discussed in Shi (2000) are, in fact, not subjects but topics licensed by a semantic gap/variable that can turn the relevant comment into an open predicate, thus licensing dangling topics and deriving well-formed topic-comment constructions. Our analysis fares better than Shi's in not only unifying the licensing mechanism of a topic to an open predicate without considering how the open predicate is derived, but also unifying the treatment of normal and dangling topics in Chinese,

  • From January 2000 to September 2006, we use the 81 months of the data to estimate the exportation and importation function of the Korea information communications main device industry towards to U.S., and through this process we extract the cost elasticity. And from cost elsticity, we estimate the exportation and importation enlarging effect between Korea and U.S assumption of the exportation and importation reduction rate was givien to MRA contract between Korea and U.S.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore changes in the test items in the preparation book for the national qualifying examination. Test items which developed in the year 2000 and 2004 through nationwide faculty workshop in Fundamentals of Nursing were examined. Method: Test items for the national qualifying examination for 2000 and 2004 in Fundamentals of Nursing were analyzed using frequencies and percent. Results: The test items for the national qualifying examination for 2004 in Fundamentals of Nursing showed an increase in the number of test item over the year 2000. According to McGuire's taxonomy, domains of the test items in 2000 were recall(65.1%), interpretation (22.0%), and problem solving(12.9%) in that order. In 2004 items for the recall domain(74.7%) increased 9.6% above the level of 2000, and interpretation and problem solving domains showed a slight decrease. With regard to type of test items, the proportion of A type in 2004 was the same with 37.6% as 2000, and that of K type(61.5%) increased by 0.7% over the year 2000(60.8%). Conclusion: The test items for the national qualifying examination of 2000 and 2004 were not different except for the increase in the number of test items.
