Readability of the Product Labelling Information of Over-The-Counter Pharmaceuticals in Convenience Store (약국 외에서 판매되는 안전상비의약품 설명서의 난이도 평가)

  • Background: Since November 2012, some of over-the-counter (OTC) medications have been sold in convenience store without pharmacist' s supervision. We purposed to examine if the product labels of OTCs provide sufficient information that is appropriate for consumers who may have low health literacy. Methods: We compared the difficulty of words that are utilized in pharmaceutical product labels of interest (intervention) with those in the $6^{th}$ grade textbook (control). Pharmaceutical products of interest were comprised of 13 OTCs which have been sold currently in convenience stores. We grouped words into the 4 levels of difficulty based on the Korean Vocabulary Classification for Education, and statistically tested words frequency in each level between OTCs and control. Results: The 13 OTC labels included lay language (easier or equal to language used in primary school) about 10% less; professional language about 10% more (p < 0.001 in all). Labels for analgesics had the longest and most difficult information, followed by common cold preparations, muscle pain relievers as plaster or cataplasma and digestives. Conclusion: The 13 OTC labels might fail to provide appropriate information for safety use by consumers in terms of the difficulty level of words. The improvement of labels of OTC medications and consumer education strategies are called for safety use of OTC medications sold in convenience stores.

A Comparative Study of Contents of Korean Basic Sewing Textbook (국내 기초 봉제 교재의 콘텐츠에 관한 비교 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to contribute in developing guidebooks that can be used in the courses of needlework study by comparing and analyzing the contents and organizations of needlework-related teaching resources available at the present university and fashion-related educational institutions. This research could help us train technical human resources to be highly adaptable in industrial settings. The results of this study showed that the overall organization of contents is mostly divided into such categories as needlework kits, basic hand sewing, seam finishing, partial needlework and decorative needlework. The study results also indicated that such content organization must be considered in basic needlework/sewing processes and that each content needs to provide more various and detailed information by reflecting recent trends in design. Partial needlework has different applications in terms of interlining attachment, subsidiary materials, or sewing techniques; therefore, consistent descriptions and standard guidelines should be given according to what material is used and which design is planned. This study found that most teaching resources covered only needlework or sewing techniques without giving specific descriptions of types of materials, lining and interlining that can have great influence on sewing methods and instructions on how to use the materials. These findings suggest that the teaching resources need to add further technical instructions for the proper use of materials especially in response to the recent release of brand-new materials and sewing machines in the market.

An Analysis on Appropriateness of Environmental Education Materials (환경교육 교재의 적합성 분석)

  • This study has an aim to construct a reference frame to analyze the appropriateness of environmental education(EE) materials of elementary schools, and to search the basic direction of the scheme for analysis. In addition, this study has an aim to induce what the results of this analysis suggests for the development and reconstruction of EE materials. It was analyzed how truly EE materials reflected contents selected as an analysis scheme, after grasping practical use and features of textbooks, audio-visual materials, and a web-site that are typical materials in EE of elementary schools. The results in textbook analysis were that there were a human-centered environmentalism in the EE unit ("Environmentally Sound National Development", 5th Grade) of Social Studies. The result in analysis of audio-visual materials "Environmental Warrior, Zentaforce" of EBS, were that there are unhealthy environmentalism in that material. In other words, technology itself is considered as a almighty means to solve environmental problems. Finally, the result in web-site analysis were that the "Environmental Class" of Ministry of Environment did not have sound environmentalism. The above result of study shows us that the most important thing in developing and using the environmental education materials is to have sound environmental values and EE perspective, to evaluate EE material with various point of view, to judge its result, and to use it.

  • Theories of capital have historically been amongst the most fertile sources of economic controversy. Many aspects of the modern debate, if not the techniques employed in its exposition, would have been as familiar to Marx, Ricardo, Bohm-Bawerk or Wicksell as to any present-day Cambridge economist. That conotroversies should arise in the course of theorizing cm the concept of capital and the function of profit is not surprising: that these debates have been so vigorous and virluent cannot be divorced from the general ideological and specific implications associated with the theories. In the context of a textbook on the theories of economic growth, the central question associated with capital that must he faced is whether the existence in the real world of heterogeneous capital goods inevitably invalidate; the conclusions of simple theories of "parables" which incorporate no more than a conception of a single, malleable, capital good. All the Cambridge writers have, to a greater or lesser extent, been concerned to deny that any unit can be found in which heterogeneous capital goods can be aggregated so as to simultaneously satisfy the pair of neoclassical requirements described above. Some of them have been more prepared than others to countenance such a possibility or, for practical purposes, to use some concept of aggregate capital in their models, but they are all deeply suspicious of attempts to use aggregate production function, incorporating aggregate "capital", so as to explain the flow of output, relative factor prices and the distribution of income.tribution of income.

Learners' Perceptions and Experiences of Using e-Textbooks in Online Learning Environment

  • This study explored middle and high school students' learning experiences using e-textbooks in online learning courses. Data were collected from in-depth interviews. The interviewees for this study were 19 students who enrolled voluntarily in an online mathematics and science inquiry program, actively participated in the online learning. The students generally have high academic achievement and motivation for learning in science and mathematics. Data were analyzed based on a grounded theory approach. As a result, the characteristics of the online learning environment using e-textbooks were conceptualized via three different categories including temporal, spatial, and technical. Such characteristics of the learning environment were able to provoke self-directed learning, extended learning, interactive learning, in-depth learning, improved ICT literacy, and formation of positive emotions and learning habits. Most of the learners showed positive feedback towards the use of e-textbooks, while some mentioned the technical limitations compared to conventional paper-based learning. This study suggested that e-textbooks are likely to induce positive experiences for learners in the context of online learning, so it is necessary to design contents that utilize various functions and advantages of electronic teaching materials in order to use e-textbooks effectively.

  • Sourcing Simulator is specialized form of software capable of providing great insight into merchandising decision making. It is relatively easy to learn and operate by reading the help menus, experimenting with inputs, and critically analyzing outputs. 1 see that it has great potential in a training program for new merchandisers to help them absorb the complexity of the numbers they must effectively use. The Sourcing Simulator, Version 1 that accompanies my textbook, Merchandising: Theory Principles, and Practice, 2nd ed. is the least complex version available. Two versions are available from [TC]2 - Retail version and The Retail/ Manufacturing version. The Retail Version is very similar to the Version 1. The Retail/ Manufacturing Version includes analysis of processes and costs in the manufacturing process as well as the merchandise planning component that we have discussed here. Sourcing Simulator is developed at North Carolina State University by Dr. Russ King, and available from Textile Clothing Technology Corporation $[TC]^2$, Cary, North Carolina.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the first graders' mathematics learning abilities in elementary school. To do this, I examined the first graders on their mathematics learning abilities, and analyzed the test results. Although all of the evaluation factors are composed the mathematical contents which are taught in elementary school, the correct answer rate of them were very high. The results of this study will be used as the basis. for developing the mathematics curriculum and textbook in elementary school. Also first grade teachers can use the results of this study as a basis when they plan a instruction for the first graders.

  • In this paper, Using CDM(Coefficient Diagram Method), we set target polynomial constraints and design 4-PID controller which have different structures such as Textbook PID-controller, Derivative of output PID-controller, set point of I only controller(I-PD controller) and PI controller followed by lag network(PI lag network controller) were tested by simulations. The plant we used are that used in IFAC 93 benchmark test. A controller designer, using CDM could use these results to select the controller's structure which is the best one fer him.

  • The Purpose of this study is to enhance the efficiency of clothing-making units in the textbook of Home Economics for the high school students. I handed out a research paper with several questions to 75 teachers and 87 students to find out the realities of the education. There are several problems of making clothes at class: lack of time, appropriate equipment and efficient learning material. To solve these problems. I made a half-sized skirt kit utilizing OPTI Tex. a type of CAD in fashion design and copied it by silkscreen. and let the students use it. Both of the teachers and students showed positive response to the newly made kit of my own. saying that \"it is very handy to prepare and it\`s very helpful to figure out how to make skirt. \" Using the kit. we could reduce the time to make clothes by about 60 % and do well in the classroom without any sewing machines.

  • In the Korean fishing boats, the abuse of Japanese term is intense. It becomes a reason of preventing the free communications between the crews who have been working for long time in the ship and crews who start new life in the ship as beginner. Also the former cannot feel and understand easily the contents of the textbook and manual which are explained with Korean or English terminology. It is reasonable that Japanese terms are no longer use in the vessel if possible. We searched and classified 170 or more Japanese terms which are used popularly in the fishing boats. So, we expect this paper is a basic research for the eradication of the Japanese terms in the Korean fishing boats.
