In this paper, we propose an algorithm for extracting text regions from spam-mail images using color layer. The CLTE(color layer-based text extraction) divides the input image into eight planes as color layers. It extracts connected components on the eight images, and then classifies them into text regions and non-text regions based on the component sizes. We also propose an algorithm for recovering damaged text strokes from the extracted text image. In the binary image, there are two types of damaged strokes: (1) middle strokes such as 'ㅣ' or 'ㅡ' are deleted, and (2) the first and/or last strokes such as 'ㅇ' or 'ㅁ' are filled with black pixels. An experiment with 200 spam-mail images shows that the proposed approach is more accurate than conventional methods by over 10%.

This study proposes a method to assist webtoon artists in the process of webtoon creation by utilizing a pretrained Text-to-Image model to generate webtoon images from text. The proposed approach involves fine-tuning a pretrained Stable Diffusion model using a webtoon dataset transformed into the desired webtoon style. The fine-tuning process, using LoRA technique, completes in a quick training time of approximately 4.5 hours with 30,000 steps. The generated images exhibit the representation of shapes and backgrounds based on the input text, resulting in the creation of webtoon-like images. Furthermore, the quantitative evaluation using the Inception score shows that the proposed method outperforms DCGAN-based Text-to-Image models. If webtoon artists adopt the proposed Text-to-Image model for webtoon creation, it is expected to significantly reduce the time required for the creative process.

Color polarity classification is a process to determine whether the color of text is bright or dark and it is prerequisite task for text extraction. In this paper we propose a color polarity method to extract text region. Based on the observation for the text and background regions, the proposed method uses the ratios of sizes and standard deviations of bright and dark regions. At first, we employ Otsu's method for binarization for gray scale input region. The two largest segments among the bright and the dark regions are selected and the ratio of their sizes is defined as the first measure for color polarity classification. Again, we select the segments that have the smallest standard deviation of the distance from the center among two groups of regions and evaluate the ratio of their standard deviation as the second measure. We use these two ratio features to determine the text color polarity. The proposed method robustly classify color polarity of the text. which has shown by experimental result for the various font and size.
In this study, we employ CPM-GOMS analysis for explaining physical and cognitive processes and for quantitatively predicting when users are typing Korean text messages on mobile phones using both hands. First, we observe the behaviors of 10 subjects, when the subjects enter keypads with both hands. Then, basing upon MHP, we categorize the behaviors into perceptual, cognitive, motor operators, and then we analyze those operators. After that, we use the critical paths to model two task sentences. Also, we used Fitts' law method which was applied many times to predict text entering time on mobile phone to compare with the results of our CPM-GOMS model. We followed Lee's (2008) method that is well suited for text entry task using both hands and calculate total task time for each task sentences. For the sake of comparison between the actual data and the results predicted from our CPM-GOMS model, we empirically tested 10 subjects and concluded that there were no significant differences between the predicted values and the actual data. With the CPM-GOMS model, we can observe the human information processes composed on the physical and cognitive processes. Also we verified that the CPM-GOMS model can be well applied to predict the users' performance when they input text messages on mobile phones using both hands by comparing the predicted total task time with the real execution time.
In this paper, we classified the objectionable texts into four rates according to their harmfulness and proposed the hierarchical text rating system for objectionable documents. Since the documents in the same category have similarities in used words, expressions and structure of the document, the text rating system, which uses a single classification model, has low accuracy. To solve this problem, we separate objectionable documents into several subsets by using their properties, and then classify the subsets hierarchically. The proposed system consists of three layers. In each layer, we select features using the chi-square statistics, and then the weight of the features, which is calculated by using the TF-IDF weighting scheme, is used as an input of the non-linear SVM classifier. By means of a hierarchical scheme using the different features and the different number of features in each layer, we can characterize the objectionability of documents more effectively and expect to improve the performance of the rating system. We compared the performance of the proposed system and performance of several text rating systems and experimental results show that the proposed system can archive an excellent classification performance.

Our modern 'information-hungry' age demands delivery of information at unprecedented fast rates. Timely delivery of noteworthy information about recent events can help people from different segments of life in number of ways. As world has become global village, the flow of news in terms of volume and speed demands involvement of machines to help humans to handle the enormous data. News are presented to public in forms of video, audio, image and text. News text available on internet is a source of knowledge for billions of internet users. Urdu language is spoken and understood by millions of people from Indian subcontinent. Availability of online Urdu news enable this branch of humanity to improve their understandings of the world and make their decisions. This paper uses available online Urdu news data to train machines to automatically categorize provided news. Various machine learning algorithms were used on news headline for training purpose and the results demonstrate that Bernoulli Naïve Bayes (Bernoulli NB) and Multinomial Naïve Bayes (Multinomial NB) algorithm outperformed other algorithms in terms of all performance parameters. The maximum level of accuracy achieved for the dataset was 94.278% by multinomial NB classifier followed by Bernoulli NB classifier with accuracy of 94.274% when Urdu stop words were removed from dataset. The results suggest that short text of headlines of news can be used as an input for text categorization process.

In recent years, RNN networks with LSTM blocks have been used extensively in machine learning tasks that process sequential data. These networks have proven to be particularly good at sequential language processing tasks by being more able to accurately predict the next most likely word in a given sequence than traditional neural networks. This study trained an RNN / LSTM neural network on three different translations of 150 biblical Psalms - in both English and Korean. The resulting model is then fed an input word and a length number from which it automatically generates a new Psalm of the desired length based on the patterns it recognized while training. The results of training the network on both English text and Korean text are compared and discussed.

Text recognition in natural scene images is a challenging problem in computer vision. The accurate identification of ship number characters can effectively improve the level of ship traffic management. However, due to the blurring caused by motion and text occlusion, the accuracy of ship number recognition is difficult to meet the actual requirements. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a dual-branch network based on the CRNN identification network. The network couples image restoration and character recognition. The CycleGAN module is used for blur restoration branch, and the Pix2pix module is used for character occlusion branch. The two are coupled to reduce the impact of image blur and occlusion. Input the recovered image into the text recognition branch to improve the recognition accuracy. After a lot of experiments, the model is robust and easy to train. Experiments on CTW datasets and real ship maps illustrate that our method can get more accurate results.

In this paper, an integrated document input/output system is developed which constructs the graphic document from a text file, converts the document into encoded facsimile data, and also recognizes printed/handwritten alphanumerics and Korean characters in a facsimile or graphic document. For an output system, we develop the method which generates bit-map patterns from the document consisting of the KSC5601 and ASCII codes. The binary graphic image, if necessary, is encoded by the G3 coding scheme for facsimile transmission. For a user friendly input system for documents consisting of alphanumerics and Korean characters obtained from a facsimile or scanner, we propose a document recognition algirithm utilizing several special features(partial projection, cross point, and distance features) and the membership function of the fuzzy set theory. In summary, we develop an integrated document input/output system and its performance is demonstrated via computer simulation.

This paper describes the result of a series of fundamental researches on a word processing system, named WORD80. Given the text consisting of Ilanguel characters, Chinese characters, English alphabets and other special characters, it can provide-ㄴo-see printout, after having processed according to the commands used to control the output format of the text. Since each Hanguel character in input text is made up of and is represented as some compoents, it uses the deterministic finite automata for the formation of Hanguel from its components. When developed at first, the WORD80 can perform Hanguel to Chinese transition character by character by character. But it was thought to be more practical to do this word by word.
