Biological control of Tetranychus urticae by Phytoseiulus persimilis was observed in eggp1ant greenhouse fur spring and autumn season culture. Tetranychus urticae was controlled to low density of less than 1 mite from June 24 after p. persimilis were released 3 times at rate of 10 per plant on June 1, 11, and 18, 2004 in spring season experiment. The population of Tetranychus urticae was also less than 1 mite per eggp1ant leaf from September 1 to October 22 after three times releases of 10 P. persimilis in autumn season experiment. In Phytoseiulus persimilis released plot, the percentage of leaves with T. urticae adults and nymphs were 8.6$\sim$13.3% and 5% or less in spring and autumn season experiment. The density of T urticae was from 1 to 2 on leaves with T urticae adults and nymphs.
To determine the effect of newly developed insecticide on two spotted spider mite, Tetranychus Urticae, populations, ten leaf discs were sprayed with three different concentrations (0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5%) of the tested insecticide solution, and with a water-sprayed control. The tested insecticide solution was toxic to adult female and immature of two spotted spider mite, but was relatively non-toxic to eggs. For equivalent concentrations, more adult females were killed than immature stages. There was no marked difference between the hatch of treated and untreated eggs, although a weak trend between the numbers of unhatched eggs and the insecticide concentration after 7 days is shown.

This study was conducted to develop an organic control method of two spotted spider mite(Tetranychus urticae) by using cooking oil and yolk mixture(COY) through evaluating its acaricidal activity in laboratory and green house. In laboratory, there is no significant difference in acaricidal activity against T. urticae within the COY including soybean, canola(rape seed), sunflower and olive oil. The acaricidal activity against T. urticae. increased from 17.6% to 94.1% as the COY became concentrated between 0.1% to 1%. The COY acricidal activity was effected by the quantity of treatment according to application methods. The COY dealt with T. urticae eggs presented 95% of the ovicidal activity. In rose greenhouse damaged by T. urticae, the COY(0.3%) was sprayed three times and resulted in the high control value of mites between 69.0% to 89.6%.
These sutdies were conducted to investigate the joint toxic action of mixtures of several acaricides including amitraz, bifenthrin, propargite, fenbutatin dxide and bxide dicofol to the field-collected strian of Tetranychus urticae. The synergistic action of acaricidal mixtures was greatly varied with the kind of acaricide combinations and their mixture ratios. The combinations of amitraz with each of the tested acaricides were synergized at the given mixture ratios. The higher synergistic action in the each combination was observed at 2 : 8 ratio of amitraz and bifenthrin, 8 : 2 ratio of amitraz and fenbutatin oxide, 4 : 6 ratio of amitraz and propargite and 6 : 4 ratio of amitraz and dicofol.
Essential oils of three plants (caraway oil, hyssop oil and lime oil) were screened for repellency against Tetranychus urticae female adults in the lab condition. Among them, caraway oil (Carum carvi) showed $92.2\%$ repellency against female adults at 1,000 ppm concentration. Through the constituent analysis using GC and GC/MS, we confirmed that the two main constituents were carvone $(73.3\%)$ and limonene (26.7). Limonene showed 87.8 and $83.1\%$ repellency against adult females at 1,000 and 100 ppm concentrations, respectively.
The comparative toxicity of abamectin to the predatory mite, Amblyseius womersleyi Schicha and the spider mites, Tetranychus urticae Koch and T. kanzawai Kishida was evaluated by leaf disc method. Abamectin was much less toxic to A. womersleyi than to the spider mites. Although survival rate of adult females of A. womersleyi tended to decrease with increasing abamectin concentration, 8-78% of predators remained alive at concentrations of 0.38-6 ppm. Likewise, reproduction was significantly reduced with increasing abamectin concentration. Abamectin neither affect the hatch of A. womersleyi eggs nor the development of surviving immature predators. Survival of immature predators decreased with increasing abamectin concentration. However, 42-90% of immature predators reached adulthood at 0.38-3 ppm. Adult female predators survived on a diet of spider mites intoxicated with abamectin, although their fecundity and the sex-ratio of the progeny were significantly affected. Abamectin at selective sublethal concentrations (0.38-0.75 ppm) could he of value in adjusting predatorlprey ratios in integrated management of T. urticae and T. kanzawai.
The expenment was conducted to study the foraging behavior of Amblyseius hngisp~nosus for eggs of Tetranychus urticoe. When preys were abundant, A. longispinosus repeated a series of foraging process (feeding, after-feeding movement, restmy, and searching) The time (Mean\ulcorner SD) spent for these components were 6 83+ 1.73. 3 OOi 1.66. 93.57+ 30 19. and -0.00 min., respectively. Afterfeeding movement was chractetired as a complex one-way circular moving path with a slow speed (0.09 mm/sec) and area-restricted Escaping movement was fast (0 31 mm/sec), more straight in direction, and edge-oriented walking. Positions of prey consumption of A. longispinosus were distributed in clump. KEY WORDS Foraging behavior, nlovlng path, Arnblyseius longispinosus, Tetranychus urtlcae.

Biological control of Tetranychus urticae by Phytoseiulus persimilis was carried out on tropical plant (Erythrina caffra, Phytolacca dioica) from April to July. Experiments were conducted at Tropical Plant Resources Research Center of Korea National Arboretum. Phytoseiulus persimilis (200 individual/tree) was released once (12. May) to control Tetranychus urticae. We measured the density of leaf-feeding T. urticae at intervals of approximately 2weeks after introducing P. persimilis. The densities of T. urticae were suppressed 10%, in Erythrina caffra and 49% in Phytolacca dioicas after 2 weeks introducing them.
The effect of NeemAzal-T/S was tested by leaf disk method on fecundity, egg mortality, and preference of twospotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae and its predator mite, Amblyseius womersleyi in the laboratory. Mortalities of T. urticae and A. womersleyi adults were 97.7% and 20.0%, in 100ppm treatment at 72 h after application, respectively. The mean number of eggs laid per T. urticae female adult were 0.0 and 18.5, and those of A. womersleyi were 1.6 and 2.9 at 100 ppm and 0 ppm concentrations, respectively. Hatchability of T. urticae eggs treated with 50 and 100 ppm were 52.8%, and 2.5%, respectively, and those of A. womersleyi eggs were 100% and 91.3%, respectively. Choice and no-choice tests revealed that T. urticae female preferred to alight and oviposit on untreated bean leaf disk with 13.8 to 18.2 eggs per female. In contrast, A. womersleyi female preferred on treated or untreated bean leaf equally. There was no significant differences in the number of consumption of T. urticae eggs by A. womersleyi on treated and untreated bean leaves, except 200 ppm. These results indicate that NeemAzal-TIS is highly toxic to T. urticae, and is less toxic to A. womersleyi. It may be concluded with these results that NeemAzal-T/S could be incorporated into integrated T. urticae management system.
Methanol and hexane extracts from 35 species in 27 families of herbal plants were evaluated for their acaricidal activities against two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae by leaf-dipping and spraying methods in laboratory, pot and field, respectively. Acaricidal activities were different depending on herbal plants. When T. urticae was released on leaves of Phaseolus vulgaris var. humilis that were dipped in the 1,000 ppm hexane extracts from fruits of Torreya nucifer and Daphan genkwa, seeds of Xanthium strumarium and Pharbitis nil at one minute they experienced 56.8, 47.8, 47.7, and 47.7% mortalities, respectively. Dipping time influenced acaricidal activity, that is, one minute dipping was more effective than 30 second dipping of Phaseolus vulgaris var. humilis leaves. However, extracts of X. strumarium and P. nil seeds had comparatively high activities. Concentration of hexane extract of X. strumarium and P. nil seeds revealing LC50 were 1,824 and 1,899 ppm, respectively. Extracts of both plants from hot and cold water were not effective representing <20% mortality at 1,000 ppm. However, hexane extracts of X. strumarium and P. nil seeds were effective against T. urticae on P. vulgaris var. humilis representing 76.3 and 71.3% mortalities in pot, respectively. Control effects of hexane extract of P. nil seed were 50.8 and 35.1% at 2,000 and 1,000 ppm against T. urticae on Chrysanthemum morifolium in greenhouse, respectively.
