  • A new octahedral Ru(III) complex with a tripodal tetraamine ligand, tpea = tris[2-(1-pyrazoyl)ethyl]amine, has been prepared and characterized. The single crystal X-ray crystallographic study of the complex revealed that the complex has a near octahedral geometry with the tetradentate ligand and two chloride ions. Peroxidase activity was examined by observing the oxidation of 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline)-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of the complex. Amount of $ABTS^{+{\bullet}}$ generated during the reaction was monitored by UV/VIS and EPR spectroscopies. After the initiation of the peroxidase reaction, $ABTS^{+{\bullet}}$ concentration increases and then decreases after certain time, indicating that both ABTS and $ABTS^{+{\bullet}}$ are the substrates of the peroxidase activity of the Ru(III) complex.

  • A straight chain flexible tetraamine ligand, 1,l0-dipropyl-5R-methyltriethylenetetraamine(R-$Pr_2$metrien) has been synthesized, and the dichloro and dinitro cobalt(III) complexes of this ligand have been prepared. The ligand has been expected to show a topological preference for the trans isomer. As expected, only trans geometrical isomers have been obtained and their structures have been elucidated via elemental analyses, nmr, electronic absorption and CD data.

  • A novel optically active tetraamine ligand possessing four asymmetric centers, N,N'-bis(2(S)-aminopropyl)-1(R),2(R)-trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane (SRRS-apchxn) and its cobalt(Ⅲ) complexes, [Co(SRRS-apchxn)X2]n+ (X=Cl-, H2O, X2=CO32-) have been synthesized. This ligand has coordinated stereospecifically to the cobalt(Ⅲ) ion to give only the Λ-uns-cis-(SS) isomer. A trans dichloro complex has been obtained via the stereospecific isomerization of Λ-uns-cis-(SS)-[Co(SRRS-apchxn)Cl2]+ to trans-(SS)-[Co(SRRS-apchxn) Cl2]+ in CH3OH-HCl medium. Ligand and complexes have been characterized by electronic absorption, 1H NMR, CD spectra, and also by elemental analysis. It is of interest that this is one of the few CoⅢ(N4)X2 type complex preparations, which produces such an uns-cis isomer with stereospecificity.

  • Research on tripodal complexes has grown in recent decades and has been subject of numerous reports.1-11 The reasons for this interest include their relevance to model functions of metalloenzymes1-3 and their potential applications in catalysis.13-17 The ligand system used most in this category has been tren, the tripodal tetraamine N(CH2CH2NH2)3, and its derivatives.4 The bz3tren is a versatile tetradentate ligand, known to form stable complexes not only with transition metals5-11 including Cu2+, Zn2+ and Co2+ but also anion species.12 However, only few results on the d10 metal complexes with bz3tren have been reported by us10 and others.6,7 As a part of on going efforts, we therefore focus our attention to extend other d10 system that includes heavy metal ions.

  • The SS-phpm 4HCl(N,N'-bis-[2(S)-pyrrolidinylmethyl]phenylene-l,2-diamine-4-Hydrochloride) ligand having stereospecificity has been prepared and reacted with trans-[$Co(pyridine)_4Cl_2]$Cl. The resultants are purple crystals, which are identified to be ${\Delta}$-cis-${\beta}$-[$Co(SS-phpm)Cl_2$]Cl by elemental analysis and UV/Vis- and CD-absorption spectra, The conformation of SS-phpm in ${\Delta}$-cis-${\beta}$ complex is ${\delta}$ ${\varepsilon}$ ${\lambda}$ (SSSS) for each of the five-membered chelated ring. Futhermore, according to orientation of secondary amine, total strain energy on each isomers was calculated by molecular mechanics(MM) to verify structural characterization and spectral data. As the result, the most stabilized isomer was ${\Delta}$-cis-${\beta}$(SSSS). The value of total strain energy(U) of ${\Delta}$-cis-${\beta}$(SSSS) isomer was 63.21 kcal/mol, respectively.
