  • This paper describes the result of carbody and vibration test for freight car. The purpose of the test is to evaluate an safety which carbody structure shall be considered fully sufficient rigidity so as to load a freight car under maximum load and operating condition on line track. The test carbody is constructed by RS korea co., LTD. in accordance with KNR specification. The test cases of the carbody is tested the vertical load and compressive load to verify the strength and stiffness. The vibration test is tested for analysis and evaluation of vibration, to allow for the fact that mechanical vibration in railway vehicles have specific characteristics.

  • A new apparatus called the EFA (Erosion Function Apparatus) has been built and tested to measure the erodibility of fine-grained soils. The EFA is a simple test to predict the erosion rate of fine-grained soils along with the corresponding velocity and shear stress. In addition, it is advantageous in predicting the scour rate for actual soil samples from bridge sites. The plot of erosion rate versus shear stress is the result of an EFA test. It Indicates the critical shear stress at which erosion starts and the rate of erosion beyond that shear stress. In order to measure the erodibilities of various soils, 14 Shelby Tube soil samples are collected from the actual bridge sites and tested using the EFA. The results of the EFA tests which are the relationships between erosion rates and shear stresses are presented in this paper and research continues to develop the correlation between the erosion function and the soil properties.

  • This paper describes a research study on the durability and strength properties of thin quiet-permeable asphalt concrete. Such asphalt mixes have high porosity, which offers significantly better drainages than normal mix designs. However, these materials also exhibit poor durability and strength limiting their use in pavement application. To remedy this, fiber and polymer modifiers have been proposed. All samples were added to modified binder which were prepared with or without the modifiers and fiber using Marshall mix procedures and were experimentally tested using various standardized testing procedures including percent air void for porosity, cantabro test and marshall stability. In general, the results of marshall stability showed that modified mixtures were equivalent to unmodified mixtures. Especially, the result of cantabro tested modified mixtures was superior to unmodified mixtures.

  • Unlike regular images, there is no ground truth for bio surface images. Result of biosurface imaging is not only significantly affected by the environment and the condition of the bio surface, it requires more detailed expression than regular images. Therefore, unlike algorithms tested on regular images, studies on bio surface images requires a highly precise optimization process. We aim to optimize the graph cut algorithm, known to be the most outstanding among the stereo visions, by considering baseline, lambda, and disparity range. Optimal results were in the range of 1~10 for lambda. The disparity ranged from -30 to -50, indicating an optimal value in a slightly higher range. Furthermore, we verified the tested optimization data using SIFT.

  • We experienced a 15 month old child who had persistent gastroparesis after an acute viral illness tested positive for rotavirus. She was admitted because of persistent postprandial vomiting, abdominal distension and anorexia followed after acute rotavirus gastroenteritis. Other diagnostic tests did not demonstrate any evidence of some organic disease. But, we could find the delayed gastric emptying in gastric scintigraphy. The initial percentage gastric emptying in 60 minutes tested by scintigraphy was 13.4%. The second result of percentage gastric empting after clinical improvement was 49.9%.

  • A low-temperature solar thermal system assisting a biological nitrogen treatment reservoir was designed and field-tested. A large tank whose temperature was maintained at about $25{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ to enhance the performance of a biological nitrogen treatment process was heated by an array of flat plate solar collectors. Test results revealed that the overall collector efficiency was above 50% for the most cases tested. This high efficiency was possible owing to the relatively low collector temperature that can be traced back to the reservoir temperature. A substantial enhancement in nitrogen treatment was observed as a result of maintaining the reservoir temperature higher.

  • A compound agent that mixes inert gas agents and halocarbon agents and a complex fire suppression system using the compound agent have been developed. The ultimate goal of this study is to develop the extinguishing agent which doesn't destroy the ozone layer and has low GWP and to develop the fire suppression system. As a result of the test and research for inert gas agents and halocarbon agents, nitrogen and FK-5-1-12 were selected finally and have been tested and studies for three years. Thus, the optimal extinguishing agent and fire suppression system have been accomplished. The performance of the agent and system was tested according to KFI performance test technical standards for gas fire extinguishing system and the fitness of the agent and system for a fire was certified by Korea Fire Industry Technology Institute (KFI).

  • Taylorella equigenitalis (T. equigenitalis), Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) are sexually transmittable bacteria known to cause venereal diseases (VD) in horses. T. equigenitalis causes contagious equine metritis (CEM), which is a considerable concern for equine breeding industry. K. pneumoniae and P. aeruginosa may cause endometritis and infertility in susceptible mares. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of these bacteria among breeding Thoroughbreds in South Korea. External genital swabs were collected from 178 breeding Thoroughbreds, including 11 stallions and 167 mares. The samples were tested using a commercial multiplex real-time PCR kit. T. equigenitalis, P. aeruginosa, and K. pneumoniae were present in 5.6%, 7.3%, and 5.6% of tested Thoroughbreds, respectively. The results highlight the need for regular testing of South Korean Thoroughbreds, particularly those used for breeding, for these bacteria. The regular pre-breeding test for these bacteria will prevent health complications for the horse and financial losses for the owner as a result of VD.

  • In this study, three optimization techniques efficiency is assessed for calibration of the GR4J model for streamflow simulation in Selmacheon, Boryeong Dam and Kyeongancheon watersheds located in South Korea. The Penman-Monteith equation is applied to estimate the potential evapotranspiration, model calibration, and validation is carried out using the readily available daily hydro-meteorological data. The Shuffled Complex Evolution-University of Arizona(SCE-UA), Uniform Adaptive Monte Carlo (UAMC), and Coupled Latin Hypercube and Rosenbrock (CLHR) optimization techniques has been used to evaluate the robustness, performance and optimized parameters of the three catchments. The result of the three algorithms performances and optimized parameters are within the recommended ranges in the tested watersheds. The SCE-UA and CLHR outputs are found to be similar both in efficiency and model parameters. However, the UAMC algorithms performances differently in the three tested watersheds.

  • In this study, a study was carried out that could effectively produce a heat dissipation effect on plastic materials. Using carbon nanotube (CNT), aluminum powder and plastic, the material properties were tested in 2 cases of compounding ratio. The test sample mold was designed and constructed prior to the experiment. The experiments include tensile strength, elongation rate, flexural strength, flexural elasticity rate, eye-jaw impact strength, gravity and thermal conductivity. Results from 60% and 70% mixture of aluminium to plastic were tested, and a 10% less combined result was a relatively good property. For research purposes, the heat dissipation effect and light weighting obtained a good measure when the combined amount of Al was 60%.
