In this paper, auto focus actuator, which is used to move a lens module in the mobile phone having a camera module, is developed. Camera module containing auto focus actuator requires to minimize total size because of characteristics of the application area such as mobile phone, digital camera, and personal digital assistant. There are stepping motor, voice coil motor, and piezoelectric motor as auto focus actuator. In this paper, voice coil motor having new electromagnetic configuration is proposed. And actuator using proposed voice coil motor is developed by optimal design method using magnetic circuit analysis. The sectional area of the developed actuator is reduced to 32.4% compared with actuator using general electromagnetic configuration. From the performance test, the developed actuator has moving stroke of 0.64 mm for 2.1 volt, hysteresis of 40 $\mu$m, full stroke current of 54 mA, and unit step motion of 3 $\mu$m.

Some analytic results for a solenoid eddy current coil to test nondestructive conducting materials are described in this paper. Normalized impedance of solenoid coil encircling cylindrical conducting tubes or tow-conductor rods is analyzed. Electrical and magnetic properties such as conductivity, permeability and exciting frequency as well as the geometric ones of fill factor or radius ratio of the conductor are also considered. Impedance characteristics of the models obtained by numerical analysis are examined. Validation of the model is carried out using several samples of non-ferromagnetic conducting tubes and 2-conductor rods.
The electro-magnetic stirring and mechanical process were applied to fabricate particulate metal matrix composites(PMMCs) with various particle size. The mechanical test on PMMCs was carried out in order to clarify the effect of 76 heat treatment on tensile behaviors. In order to study the thixoforming of PMMCs, fabricated billet are reheated by using the coil designed as a function of length between PMMC billet and coil surface, coil diameter and billet length. The effect of reinforcement distribution on billet temperature variation has been investigated with the calculated solid fraction theory based on a function of matrix alloy and volume fraction of reinforcement.

The research results on the superconducting magnet for whole body MRI are presented. The magnet consists of main coil with 6 solenoid coils, shielding coil with 2 solenoid coils and 6 sets of cryogenic shim coil. The ferromagnetic shim assembly is installed on the inside wall of the room temperature bore for shimming inhomogeneous field components generated due to manufacturing tolerances, installation misalignments and external ferromagnetic materials near the magnet. Also, the magnet is enclosed with the horizontal type cryostat with 80cm room temperature bore to keep the magnet under the operating temperature. The magnetic field distributions within the imaging volume were measured by the NMR field mapping system. Through the test, the central field of magnet was 1.5 Tesla and the field homogeneity of 9.3 ppm has been obtained on 40cm DSV(the diameter of spherical volume) and using this magnet, comparatively good images for human body, fruits and water phantoms have been achieved.
This paper deals with the design and fabrication of prototype superconducting hybrid electromagnet(SH-EM) for EMS (Electromagnetic suspension)-based Maglev. The design requirements are based on the normal conducting EM used in the German high-speed Maglev. From the MMF-Levitation force curves simulated by FEM analysis, the required MMF by superconducting coil is suggested. As an experimental test setup to demonstrate the SH-EM, the experimental SH-EM with HTS coil cooled in $LN_2$ is fabricated. From the expected operating current of the HTS coil, the levitation performance of the SH-EM is estimated.

The partial differential equations for a coil spring derived from Timoshenko beam theory and Frenet formulae. Dynamic stiffness matrix of a coil spring composed of a circular wire is assembled by using dispersion relationship, waves and natural frequencies. Natural frequencies are obtained from maxima in the determinant of inverse of a dynamic stiffness matrix with appropriate boundary conditions. The results of the dynamic stiffness method are compared with those of transfer matrix method, finite element method and test.

In this paper, the physical and electrical properties of the synthetic fluids No. 2 class Ⅶ used the insulating oils for automobile ignition coil are studied. Also, benzotriazole(BTA) as the streaming electrification suppressant additive is added to the oil, and the change of physical and electrical properties due to different BTA concentration is investigated. To investigate the electrical characteristics, the breakdown strength of each specimen by an experiment for AC breakdown and the changes of conductivity by measuring volume resistivity are analyzed. It is considered that the effective content of BTA as charge suppressant additive is about 10[ppm] from the results of AC breakdown and volume resistivity test.
Cold rolling mill process in steel works uses stands of rolls to flatten a strip to a desired thickness. Most of rolling processes use mathematical models to predict rolling force which is very important to decide the resultant thickness of a coil. In general, these mathematical models are not flexible for variant coil types and cannot handle various elements which is practically important to decide accurate rolling force. A corrective neural network is proposed to improve the accuracy of rolling force prediction. Additional variables-composition of the coil, coiling temperature and working roll parameters-are fed to the network. The model uses an MLP with BP to predict a corrective coefficient. The test results using 1,586 process data collected at POSCO in early 1995 show that the proposed model reduced the prediction error by 30% on average.
Aging and failure of motor insulation depend on the stresses imposed on it. The insulation life time depends on the severity of the stresses. The electrical aging by transient surge is very important to traction motor in EMU(electric multiple unit). This paper presents the insulation characteristics of stator coil by transient surge from inverter. There are several nondestructive tests available for checking the condition of motor insulation, the probable extent of aging, and the rate of which aging is taking place. So the insulation characteristics of stator coil were each analyzed by measurement of leakage current, dielectric loss($tan{\delta}$), capacitance, polarization index(PI) and partial discharge. The method of diagnosis is able to analyze the aging condition and predict the life of the traction motor in EMU.

Modern electric controlled valves are demanded that its solenoid actuator should be smaller size, lighter weight, lower consumption power, and higher response time. For achieving these purposes, the major design factors of solenoid actuator such as magnetic flux density, coil turn numbers, plunger size, bobbin dimension, and etc. are must be optimized. In this study, for optimal design of high speed solenoid actuator for hydraulic servo valve operation, we draw up governing equations which are composed by combination of electromagnetic theories and empirical knowledge, and deduct the values of major design factors by use of them. For more increase the operating speed, voice coil are used as main armature in manufacturing of prototype actuator. And, we have proven the propriety of the governing equations and speed increasing method by experiments using the hydraulic valve assembly adopted the prototype of solenoid actuator.
