  • This study was to present the method for estimating the horizontal coefficient of consolidation by using velocity method which was based on the Barren's equation. Horizontal drainage consolidation tests, including a radial drainage consolidation test, a cylindrical consolidation test, and a large soil box test, were performed to examine its validity. Using the velocity method, horizontal coefficient of consolidation was calculated and compared with lost method, √t method, Magnan & Deroy's method, Bergado's method.

  • Cup drawing tests were performed to evaluate the friction characteristics of sheet metals. The linear relationship between drawing force and blank holding force obtained from the cup drawing test was used to calculate the coefficient of friction of the sheet metal. The friction coefficient was compared to that from conventional draw bead friction test. It was clarified that the cup drawing test can be used as a simple and convenient method for evaluating the friction characteristic of the sheet metal and also lubricity of the lubricant used.

  • When mobile robots perform the mission in the rough terrain, the traversability depended on the terrain characteristic is useful information. In the traversabilities, wheel-terrain maximum friction coefficient can indicate the index to control wheel-terrain traction force or whether mobile robots to go or not. This paper proposes estimating wheel-terrain maximum friction coefficient. The existing method to estimate the maximum friction coefficient is limited in flat terrain or relatively easy driving knowing wheel absolute velocity. But this algorithm is applicable in rough terrain where a lot of slip occurred not knowing wheel absolute velocity. This algorithm applies the tire-friction model to each wheel to express the behavior of wheel friction and classifies slip-friction characteristic into 3 major cases. In each case, the specific algorithm to estimate the maximum friction coefficient is applied. To test the proposed algorithm's feasibility, test bed(ROBHAZ-6WHEEL) simulations are performed. And then the experiment to estimate the maximum friction coefficient of the test bed is performed. To compare the estimated value with the real, we measure the real maximum friction coefficient. As a result of the experiment, the proposed algorithm has high accuracy in estimating the maximum friction coefficient.

  • Many researchers have been trying to evaluate the diffusion coefficient of chloride ion in concrete by using qualitative and quantitative electro-migration tests. Up to now, however, there has been no sufficient method to closely determine the diffusion coefficient of chloride ion through electro-migration test. In this paper, the diffusion coefficient of chloride ion in concrete was investigated through an electro-migration test, that is, AASHTO T 277, Dhir's method, Tang's method and Andrade's method. And the results of these test were compared with each other.

  • The object of this study is to find new evaluation index for in-cylinder flow chracteristics istead of current swirl, tumble coefficient using steady flow test rig on intake port system. To this end, port flow system. To this end, port flow rig test was conducted on DOHC head varying intake valve lift respectively. Finally combination angular coefficient and inclination angle were introduced as new evaluation index for in-cylinder angularflow characteristics instead of swirl and tumble coefficient.

An Empirical Analysis on the Relationship Between Income Inequality and Economic Growth (소득불평등과 경제성장의 상호영향력 분석)

  • This study analyzes the relationship between income inequality and economic growth. Gini coefficient (market income), the deciles income inequality index and per capita real GDP were analyzed. Furthermore, various cointegration tests were tried to improve the reliability of the test results. From the weak exogeniety test of between per capita real GDP and the Gini coefficient (market income), per capita real GDP has a weak exogeneity while the Gini coefficient is endogenous. From the various cointegration tests, we found out that there is a cointegration between Gini coefficient and per capita real GDP. Moreover, it is estimated that per capita real GDP has a positive effect on the Gini coefficient (market income). In the VAR Granger causal analysis, per capita real GDP affects the Gini coefficient (market income), but it is difficult to say that the Gini coefficient (market income) always has an effect on per capita real GDP. Also, the impulse-response function of the VAR model shows that per capita real GDP temporarily reduces the Gini coefficient (market income), and then increases it over time. Accordingly, it is necessary for the policies to improve not only the distribution structure but also income distribution through economic growth.

  • When ground disturbance takes place due to vertical drain construction through mandrel penetration, that affects excess pore water pressure dissipation time because of soft clay coefficient of permeability decreasing. Eventually, consolidation time is influenced. In this research, we measure process of excess pore water pressure dissipation before and after each other different shape's mandrel penetration through model test, and calculates range of smear zone, coefficient of permeability and horizontal coefficient of consolidation after model test. Using of test result, we grasp a degree of drainage ability drop resulting from vertical drain construction.

  • To investigate the effect of sample size on coefficient of consolidation of non-homogeneous soil, the result of a large size consolidation test using a huge undisturbed sample with $1200mm(D){\times}2000mm(H)$ in dimension is compared with that of oedometer test using undisturbed small sample. In addition, test results are compared with those of same test using remold sample. Experimental results show that, due to the lump of sand/silt was mixed in sample, the coefficient of consolidation of undisturbed samples have a difference for each tests. Whereas, the difference of coefficient of consolidation between remolded large and small samples is not found. Because sample size affects the test results, sample must be carefully selected for non-homogeneous soil.

  • For the safety of railway, it should be evaluated for the running safety by measuring the derailment coefficient. Although railway has run the fixed and maintained rail, some of railway is derailed. This report shows the results that performed the static load test, wheelset manufacturing for test, main line running test on the basis of the derailment theory and experience. It is executed main line test into more than 80km/h for estimating the curving performance and running safety of Gwangju EMU. As the test results, could confirm the curving performance and running safety of Gwangju EMU from the results of the wheel unloading, lateral force, derailment coefficient etc. Derailment coefficient was less than 0.8, and lateral force allowance limit and wheel load reduction ratio were enough safe.

Estimating coefficient of consolidation and hydraulic conductivity from piezocone test results - Case studies

  • The methods for estimating in-situ hydraulic conductivity ($k_{hp}$) and coefficient of consolidation ($c_{hp}$) in the horizontal direction from piezocone penetration and dissipation test results have been investigated using test results at two sites in Saga, Japan. At the two sites the laboratory values of hydraulic conductivity ($k_v$) and coefficient of consolidation ($c_v$) in the vertical direction are also available. Comparing $k_{hp}$ with $k_v$ and $c_{hp}$ with $k_v$ values, suitable methods for estimating $k_{hp}$ and $c_{hp}$ values are recommended. For the two sites, where $k_{hp}{\approx}k_v$ and $c_{hp}{\approx}2c_v$. It is suggested that the estimated values of $k_{hp}$ and $c_{hp}$ can be used in engineering design.
