  • In this paper, we examined various definitions of terminological definition for the extraction of terminological information from corpora. After we reviewed researches at the lexicography and at the terminology, we introduced the qualia structure of Generative Lexicon (Pustejovsky 1995) for the purpose of analyzing terminological definitions. By means of the qualia structure, we analyzed the definitions which are presented at the terminological dictionaries. As a result, we confirmed that the terminological definitions can be discomposed into 4 subtypes of qualia structure. Based on this examination, we analyzed terminological definitions of articles at a newspaper and showed the usefulness of the qualia structure at the extraction of terminological definitions from the corpora.

  • As contemporary thesauri have become large and complex, it is increasingly difficult to assess the intended meaning of each one of the terms. Thereby the meaning of many descriptors seems to be very similar, and it is often not possible to distinguish among them and to identify the term correctly. Purpose of this article is to induce definitions of descriptors in thesaurus by specifying the characteristics of each concept, locating it in the domain and providing clear and prescriptive information on the meaning of each descriptor in the form of a standardized terminological definition. In this study, a small prototype thesaurus using definition of term in the field of information industry in Korean Standards has been developed. In this thesaurus definitions are written for each descriptor with the help of a proposed defining model and in accordance with defining rules borrowed from the field of terminology. In addition, elements of analyzed definition have been included in the relation structure of descriptors. It is revealed that terminological definition added to thesaurus may permit extraction of separate items of information from definitions for the representation of knowledge structures and makes it easier to confine the scope of descriptors to be included in thesaurus in a given subject field.

  • The terminological definition of 'safety' is difficult because the word has an meaning and the usage is too wide and various in itself. There could be various meanings of 'safety' according to the specific area on which the term is used. However, it is true that the debates on the rapid growth and identity of cultural content in contrast to the reinforcement of its position, and the criticisms about the lack in development of material and cultural content in staring a business show the limitation of overall cultural content in Korea. This research examines recognition of cultural industry or cultural content through terminologies of definition as well as the relationships of configures in accordance with the outcome of cultural content. Findings demonstrate that cultural content in Korea revealed the highest cultural orientation which is the same as existing interpretations, and as comparison objects, entertainment industry in the U.S. and creative industry in the UK contained the highest part of entertainment and creativity respectively. It reflects that mythical elements of language that has been discussed from the structuralist perspectives are projected in the relevant field. In conclusion, the conceptual definition of cultural content has the structure to project advantages and disadvantages of existing culture, and this limitation needs to be overcome in securing the items and business value in starting a business.

  • All learners have to improve problem-solving abilities based on the principles of Computer Science and Computational Concepts as well as enhance their information technology fluency for living in the 21st century. However, there are no clear answers for fundamental questions such as 'What is Computer Science?' or 'What is the nature of Informatics education?'. Informatics education is threatened by the terminological confusion and misleading external images of Computer Science or Informatics education. Therefore, in this study, we closely reviewed perspectives on the nature and necessity of Informatics education and suggested a perspective to improve Informatics education. First, we examined how the definition of Computer Science has changed and pointed out that the Computer Science curriculum has operated differently from country to country because of the different viewpoints about Computer Science. Moreover, we presented evidence to assert that Informatics education should be considered as an independent science subject that is for all students. Finally, we suggested essential elements to insist that Informatics is a discipline to improve computational thinking. Essential elements consisted of 'Representations', 'Processes', 'Machines', 'Relationships' and 'Construction'. We suggested that the concept of Informatics should be extended based on these five elements.
