In this paper, the microstructure, hardness, tensile deformation and fracture behavior of high strength alloy steel X2M is presented anddiscussed. The influence of both composition and processing on microstructure of the as-provided material and resultant influence of microstructure, as a function of orientation, on hardness, tensile properties and final fracture behavior is highlighted. The macroscopic mode and intrinsic microscopic features that result from fracture of the steel specimens machined from the two orientations, longitudinal and transverse is discussed. The intrinsic microscopic mechanisms governing quasi-static deformation and final fracture behavior of this high strength steel are outlined in light of the effects oftest specimen orientation, intrinsic microstructural effects and nature of loading.

When workability at the a certain bulk deformation process is defined as the maximum plastic deformation capability that the workpiece can sustain without causing any cracks or fracture, the workability is dependent on the microstructure, initial workpiece shape, stress state developed during the deformation process, strain rata and presence of the interfacial friction between workpiece and tool. For a review purpose, the workability definition and test methods are summarized depending on the applied stress state at bulk deformation process in Table 1 at the text. In this study, the cold workabilities of as-cast A16061 bulk material have been measured and comparatively analyzed at the primary tensile stress state by using tensile specimens, the primary compressive stress state by using cylindrical specimens, and the forming limit diagram by ductile fracture.
We investigated the stability of the DLC film coated on 304 stainless steel substrate by Radio frequency assisted chemical vapor deposition method. Fracture and spallation behaviour of the coating was observed during micro-tensile test of the fil $m_strate composite. As the tensile deformation progressed, the cracks of the film were observed in the perpendicular direction to the tensile axis. Further deformation resulted in the plastic deformation with $45^{\circ}$ slip bands on the substrate surface. Spallation of the film occurred with the plastic deformation, which was initiated at the cracks of the film and was aligned along the slip directions. We found that both the cracking and the spallation behaviors are strongly dependent on the pre-treatment condition, such as Ar plasma pre-treatment. The spallation of the film was considerably suppressed in an optimized condition of the substrate cleaning by Ar glow discharge. We observed the improved stability with increasing duration of Ar plasma pre-treatment.nt.
The tensile deformation and shape recovery behaviors were studied in Ni-Ti shape memory wires showing different transformation characteristics by annealing at $200{\sim}600^{\circ}C$. Both R phase ${\rightarrow}$ B19' martensitic transformation at lower temperature and B2 ${\rightarrow}$ R phase transformation at higher temperature occurred in the shape memory wires annealed at $200{\sim}500^{\circ}C$. Transformation temperature and heat flow of B19' martensite increase but those of R phase main almost constant even with increasing annealing temperature. In the case of wires annealed and then cooled to $20^{\circ}C$, plateau on stress-strain curves in tensile testing can be observed due to the collapse of R phase variants and the formation of deformation-induced B19' martensite. In the case of wires annealed and then cooled to $-196^{\circ}C$, however, plateau on stress-strain curves does not appear and stress increases steadily with increasing tensile deformation. Comparing shape recovery rate with cooling temperature after annealing, shape recovery rate of the wire cooled to $20^{\circ}C$ is higher than that of the wire cooled to $-196^{\circ}C$ after annealing, and maximum shape recovery rate of 95% appears in the wire annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ and then cooled to $20^{\circ}C$. $R_s$ and $R_f$ temperatures measured during shape recovery tests are higher than $A_s$ and $A_f$ temperatures measured by DSC tests even at the same annealing temperature.
The industry-wide development of digital technologies has also affected the textile and fashion industries immensely. The applications of 3D technology, virtual reality, and/or augmented reality systems have helped to create novel fashion brands based on the marriage of IT and textile/fashion industries. 3D digital virtual clothing systems have been developed to help the textile and fashion industries in terms of the planning, manufacturing, marketing and sales sectors. So far, most of the development effort for the 3d virtual clothing systems has been focused on the woven fabrics. The characteristics of woven fabrics differ from those of knitted fabric. Since the physical structures and mechanical properties of the knitted fabrics are definitely different from those of woven fabrics, the simulation process for the knitted fabrics should follow different approaches. The loops in a knitted fabric deform easily. The deformation results in a readily stretchable fabric appearance. Cloth simulation mostly employs models that approximate the mechanical properties of linear elastic planes. This simulation scheme does not, however, describe well enough the behavior of knitted fabrics, which deviate largely from the linear isotropic material characteristics. This study aims at characterizing the tensile deformation and surface textures of a knitted fabric product. Tensile deformation curves for the wale, course, and bias direction are analyzed. The surface texture of the knitted fabric is analyzed by using a 3-dimensional scanning device.

As a considerable, experimental approach, an Auto-carriage type of $CO_2$ welding machine and a MIG(Metal Inert Gas) welding robot under inert gas atmosphere were utilized in order to realize Al 5083 welding applied to hull and relevant components of green Al leisure ships. This study aims at investigating the effect of welding conditions(current, voltage, welding speed, etc) on thermal deformation that occurs as welding operation and tensile characteristics after welding, by using Al 5083, non-ferrous material, applied to manufacturing of co-environmental Al leisure ships. With respect to welding condition to minimize the thermal deformation, 150A and 16V at the wire-feed rate of 6mm/sec were acquired in the process of welding Al 5083 through an auto carriage type of $CO_2$ welding feeder. As to tensile characteristics of Al 5083 welding through a MIG welding robot, most of tensile specimens showed the fracture behavior on HAZ(Heat Affected Zone) located at the area joined with weld metal, except for some cases. Especially, for the case of the Al specimen with 5mm thickness, 284.62MPa of tensile strength and 11.41% of elongation were obtained as an actual allowable tensile stress-strain value. Mostly, after acquiring the optimum welding condition, the relevant welding data and technical requirements might be provided for actual welding operation site and welding procedure specification(WPS).
The purpose of this paper is to propose a simple analysis method of axial deformation of base-isolation rubber bearings in a building subjected to earthquake loading and present its applicability to the analysis of the bound of the aspect ratio of base-isolated buildings. The base shear coefficient is introduced as a key parameter for the bound analysis. The bound of the aspect ratio of base-isolated buildings is analyzed based on the relationship of the following four quantities; (i) ultimate state of the tensile stress of rubber bearings based on a proposed simple recursive analysis for seismic loading, (ii) ultimate state of drift of the base-isolation story for seismic loading, (iii) ultimate state of the axial compressive stress of rubber bearings under dead loads, (iv) prediction of the overturning moment at the base for seismic loading. In particular, a new recursive analysis method of axial deformation of rubber bearings is presented taking into account the nonlinear tensile behavior of rubber bearings and it is shown that the relaxation of the constraint on the ultimate state of the tensile stress of rubber bearings increases the limiting aspect ratio.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of thermo-mechanical treatment on the tensile properties of Fe-20Mn-12Cr-3Ni-3Si alloy with deformation induced martensite transformation. ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ and ${\varepsilon}$-martensite, dislocation, stacking fault were formed, and grain size was refined by thermo-mechanical treatment. With the increasing cycle number of thermo-mechanical treatment, volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$ and ${\alpha}^{\prime}$-martensite, dislocation, stacking fault were increased, and grain size decreased. In 5-cycle number thermo-mechanical treated specimens, more than 10% of the volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$-martensite and less than 3% of the volume fraction of ${\alpha}^{\prime}$-martensite were attained. Tensile strength was increased and elongation was decreased with the increasing cycle number of thermo-mechanical treatment. Tensile properties of thermo-mechanical treated alloy with deformation induced martensite transformation was affected to formation of martensite by thermo-mechanical treatment, but was large affected to increasing of dislocation and grain refining.

High nitrogen steels (HNS) exhibit both high strength and ductility during tensile deformation. In the present study the Fe-18Cr-14Mn-4Ni-0.9N high nitrogen steel was heat treated at $1000^{\circ}C$ and $1100^{\circ}C$ to produce $Cr_2N$ precipitates in austenite matrix and full austenite microstructures, respectively. Tensile tests of the heat treated specimens were performed at two different strain rates of 0.05/sec and 0.00005/sec. Each tensile curve of the specimens could be well characterized by the the modified Ludwik equation. Plastic deformation of the steel was adequately represented by the four parameters of the modified Ludwik equation. At 0.05/s strain rate, the specimen with the $Cr_2N$ precipitate exhibited higher strength than the full austenite specimen, while the full austenite specimen showed better mechanical properties at 0.00005/s strain rate. It was found that the $Cr_2N$ precipitates influences deformation behavior of the high nitrogen steel significantly.
The tensile properties of high manganese austenitic stainless steel with the two phase structures of deformation-induced martensite and reversed austenite were studied. Reversed austenite with an ultra-fine grain size of less than $0.3{\mu}m$ was obtained by reversion treatment. The two phases structures of deformation-induced martensite and reversed austenite were obtained by an annealing treatment in the range of $500^{\circ}C-700^{\circ}C$ for various times in 70% cold- rolled high-manganese austenitic stainless steel. The volume fraction of the reversed austenite increased rapidly with increases in the annealing temperature and time. In the stainless steel with the two phases of austenite and martensite, the strength decreased rapidly, while the elongation increased slowly and then rapidly increased with an increase in the volume fraction of the reversed austenite. Therefore, the strength and elongation were strongly controlled by the volume fraction of reversed austenite. A good combination of high strength and elongation could be obtained by the mixed structure of reversed austenite and deformation-induced martensite.
