Single lap-shear joints (SLJ) specimens with and without partial round fillets were fabricated to measure the average shear strength of adhesives. The effects of the length of the adherend on the SLJ specimens were also investigated. An epoxy adhesive was used to bond aluminum alloy. Tensile tests were performed on the adhesive bulk specimens to measure the mechanical properties. The finite element analysis (FEA) method was used to measure the adhesive stress distributions, i.e., the peel and shear stresses, on the bonded part. The experimental results revealed that the specimen consisting short length of adherend and without the partial round fillets exhibited the smallest average shear strength of adhesive among the investigated specimens. FEA revealed that the low average shear strength for the specimen with a short adherend length was caused by high stress concentrations on the adhesive at the edge of the bonded part.
Statement of problem: The failure of adhesion between the resilient denture liner and the denture base is a serious problem in clinic. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of denture base resin surface pretreatments (mechanical and/or chemical) on the tensile bond strength between a resilient liner and processed denture resin. Material and method. Acrylic-based resilient liners (Soft liner; GC co., Japan & Coe-Soft; GC America Inc. USA) and silicone-based resilient liners (Mucosoft, Parkell Inc., USA & Dentusil; Bosworth co., USA) were used. Specimens in each soft lining material were divided two groups with or without mechanical pretreatment. Each denture base specimen received 1 of 4 chemical pretreatments including: (1) no treatment, (2) 30-s acetone treatment, (3) 15-s methylene chloride treatment, (4) 180-s methyl methacrylate treatment. All specimens were thermocycled and placed under tension until failure in a universal testing machine. Results: 1. Silicone-based resilient liners exhibited significantly higher tensile bond strengths than acrylic-based resilient liners (P<.05). 2. Grinding the denture base resin improved tensile bond strengths of silicone-based resilient liners, but reduced tensile bond strengths of acrylic-based resilient liners (P<.05). 3. In acrylic-based resilient liners, treating with acetone significantly increased the bond strength of Soft liner and treating with methyl methacrylate significantly increased the bond strength of Coe-Soft (P<.05). However they were not effective compared to silicone-based resilient liner. 4. In silicone-based resilient liners, treating with all chemical etchants significantly increased the bond strength of Mucosoft to denture base, and treating with methylene chloride and methyl methacrylate increased the bond strength of Dentusil to denture base (P<.05). Conclusion: Although chemical and mechanical pretreatments were not effective on tensile bond strength of acrylic-based resilent liner to denture base, treating the denture base resin surface with appropriate chemical etchants after mechanical pretreatment significantly increased the tensile bond strength of silicone-based resilient liner to denture base.
In this study, a series of dimer acid-based polyamides with different diamines were synthesized by condensation polymerization and the polyamides were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Effects of diamine structures on mechanical and thermal properties of polyamides were investigated. The tensile strength and lap shear adhesion strength of aromatic-based polyamide (DAP) were higher than those of aliphatic-based polyamide (DAH). In DSC thermogram, DAP has a high $T_g$ and $T_m$ compared with DAH. DAP's and DAH's softening point were $112-115^{\circ}C$ and $98-121^{\circ}C$, respectively.

The massive structures are not free to move with vibration, differential settlement, thermal stresses because, construction and expansion joint, crack etc., can be large enough to cause leakage as deformation of waterproofing. It has been depended on the test method of tensile/tear strength which is waterproofing performance as behavior of concrete structure crack. However, not to practically confirm the creep applied to concrete surface, even waterproofing membrane have more performance than definite strength and elasticity. Therefore, in this study will focus on the test method to consider a resistance performance about loose adhesion and deformation of waterproofing and behavior of concrete structure as construction/expansion joint, crack. Performance test method on the influence as behavior of concrete structure crack is to choose waterproofing materials and construction method which possible to confront with behavior of 50mm crack in the atmosphere and low temperature. Examine the deformation of waterproofing membrane and loose adhesion which can occur to structure in general job site, suggest standard testing method to analyze correlation waterproofing membrane and structure with 5-types of materials used in this study, such as Adhesion membrane and sheet complex, sheet and urethane complex, self-adhesive sheet, spray poly-urea, spray membrane of rubberized Asphalt.
Hot-melt adhesive was solid phase in room temperature as 100% solid contents. So it has advantage which attach to substrate with the low pressure heat, fast adhesion speed and environment friendly. In this study, We studied about the effect of a kind of SBS resin and petroleum resin as a tackifier resin and their ratio for hot-melt adhesive on properties. The styrene and $C_9$ resin contents in hot-melt adhesive was increased with increasing viscosity, tensile strength, peel strength and thermal resistance.
At ruthenium (Ru) catalyst was exposed from the atmosphere, the degree of catalyst activation decreased. The change of catalyst activity with the number of days of exposure to air for the Ru catalyst was confirmed using the surface tension method quantitatively. Mechanical properties and surfactant change after polymerization by DCPD using Ru catalyst for each air exposure day was evaluated. The Ru catalyst mixed with a dilution agent was exposed in the air and color was monitored for each day. Surface tension was measured using Wilhelmy and PTFE and associated with different catalyst activities. Heat was measured in real time during polymerizing DCPD with Ru catalyst. After polymerization, tensile strength was measured for p-DCPD and the change of material property was measured. Interfacial properties were also evaluated via microdroplet pull-out tests between glass fiber and p-DCPD. The surface tension was stable until the 4 days (33 dyne/cm) whereas the surface energy increased at the 10 days (34 dyne/cm), which could be correlated with oxidation of the catalyst. Tensile property and interfacial shear strength (IFSS) was also stable until the 4 days (tensile strength: 38 MPa and IFSS: 26 MPa) whereas the mechanical property decrease at 10 days (tensile strength: 15 MPa and IFSS: 3 MPa) dramatically.
Application of ultra-high strength steel sheets is one of the most important methods to satisfy weight reduction and crash safety of a vehicle. Recently, there has been a trend to apply ultra-high strength steel sheets widely to underbody parts in which corrosion resistance is required. In this work, ultra-high strength galvannealed steel sheets with a tensile strength of 1180 MPa were developed. Newly developed ultra-high strength galvannealed steel sheets have comparable properties, such as mechanical properties, spot weldability, crashworthiness and adhesion of coatings, to conventional steel sheets.

In this study, the micro- and nano-particles were used and their shapes were transferred into the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) film to fabricate the dry adhesives and their properties were investigated. The Cu nanoparticles of the sizes of 20 nm, 40 nm and 70 nm and the polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) beads of the size of $5{\mu}m$ were used to transfer their images and the resultant properties of the dry adhesives were compared. The effects of particle size and materials on the mechanical property, tensile adhesion strength, light transmittance, surface morphology, water contact angle were studied. The dry adhesives obtained from the transfer process of Cu nanoparticles with the size of 20 nm resulted in the enhancement of tensile adhesion strength more than 300% compared to that of the bare PDMS. The formation of nanostructure of large surface area on the surface of the PDMS film by the Cu nanoparticles may responsible for the improvement. This study suggests that the use of nanoparticles during the fabrication of PDMS dry adhesives is easy and effective and could be applied to the fabrication of the medical patch.
We investigated the specific gravity and mechanical property changes of solid-state extruded polypropylene (PP)/talc composites before and after orientation. The specific gravity of the composites increases with increasing the filler contents. The specific gravity of the oriented specimen containing filler in PP matrix is found to be much smaller than that of pre-specimen due to the formation of more micro-voids. It was found that the tensile properties of the composites are increased up to the talc content of 10 wt%, but after the contents exceeding 10 wt%, the tensile properties are decreased. For oriented specimens, the tensile strength of the composites showed monotonously decrease with increasing talc contents. When the contents of talc is 10 wt%, the theoretical values according to Halpin-Tsai equation are close to the experimental values but over 20 wt% of talc contents, the deviation of the experimental values from the theoretical prediction becomes higher. The maximum flexural strength and modulus were observed for PP/talc composites when the talc contents was 10 wt% for both pre-specimen and oriented specimen.
In this study, Jute fibers reinforced polypropylene (JFRP) composites were manufactured by injection molding technique. In order to improve the affinity and adhesion between fibers and thermoplastic matrices during manufacturing, Maleic anhydride (MA) as a coupling agent have been employed. Untreated and treated surfaces of jute fibers were characterized using SEM and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). Physical properties like water absorption rate were studied. Tensile and flexural tests were carried out to evaluate the composite mechanical properties. Tensile test and bending test indicated that JFRP composites show higher strength and modulus than pure PP. In addition, strength and modulus were found to be influenced by the variation of MAPP content (1%, 2%, and 3%). Tensile fracture surfaces were examined using scanning electron microscope. It ensures better interfacial adhesion between fibers and matrix by increasing the percentage of MAPP.
