  • Radar rainfall estimates have been widely used in calculating rainfall amount approximately and predicting flood risks. The radar rainfall estimates have a number of error sources such as beam blockage and ground clutter hinder their applications to hydrological flood forecasting. Moreover, it has been reported in paper that those errors are inter-correlated spatially and temporally. Therefore, in the current study, we tested influence about spatio-temporal errors in radar rainfall estimates. Spatio-temporal errors were simulated through a stochastic simulation model, called Multivariate Autoregressive (MAR). For runoff simulation, the Nam River basin in South Korea was used with the distributed rainfall-runoff model, Vflo. The results indicated that spatio-temporal dependent errors caused much higher variations in peak discharge than spatial dependent errors. To further investigate the effect of the magnitude of time correlation among radar errors, different magnitudes of temporal correlations were employed during the rainfall-runoff simulation. The results indicated that strong correlation caused a higher variation in peak discharge. This concluded that the effects on reducing temporal and spatial correlation must be taken in addition to correcting the biases in radar rainfall estimates. • As Temporal DataBase Systems(TDBSs) manages both the historical versions and the current version of each data item, a temporal transaction may access more data records than atransaction in traditional database systems. Hence, the concurrency control subsystem of temporaldatabase management system should be able to correctly and efficiently detect actual conflicts amongconcurrent temporal transactions while the cost of detecting conflicts is maintained in low levelwithout detecting false conflicts which cause severe degradation of system throughput. In this paper, Two-Level Conflict Detection(TLCD) scheme is proposed for efficient conflictdetection between concurrent temporal transactions in TDBs. In the proposed TLCD scheme, sincechecking conflict between concurrent temporal transactions is performed at two levels, i, e., logicallevel and physical level, conflicts between concurrent temporal transactions are efficiently and correctlydetected,Furthermore, we also evaluate the performance of the proposed TLCD scheme with those oftraditional conflict detection schemes, logical-level conflict detection scheme and physical-level conflictdetection scheme by simulation approach, The result of the simulation study shows that the proposedTLCD scheme outperforms the previous conflict detection schemes with respect to the averageresponse time.

  • This paper describes a design and temporal analysis of a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation environment for testing a motor control unit (MCU). The design concepts and main characteristics including unavoidable time delays of each component module are described. From temporal analysis results according to the module integration method, an appropriate solution is proposed to fix and minimize time delays. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed solution, the HIL test results are compared with the results of experiments and an offline simulation.

  • An authentic simulation platform for events situated in spatio-temporal space is presented. The authenticity, i.e., logical fidelity to the reality, of this cyberspace is realized by maximizing the diversity and unpredictability of events occurring therein. The knowledge components and associated schemes required for the simulation of events situated in spatio-temporal space encompass the environmental factors, the objects, the events, and their interrelations. We deviled event activation, triggering mechanism, and cognitive function related to event to realize an authentic simulation of discretionary events. The agents in this simulation environments are autonomous in that they have their own existence and capability of event planning. We focused on identifying basic constructs relevant to authentic simulation of discretionary events whose initiation depends on human intention. Several key ideas are implemented in a typical spatio-temporal situation to demonstrate the viability of our simulation mechanism.

  • This paper introduces Two-stage neural network that is capable of recognizing spatio-temporal patterns. First stage takes a spatio-temporal pattern as input and compress it into sparse spatio-temporal pattern. Second stage is for temporal pattern recognition with nonuniform inhibitory connections and different cell sizes. These are basic properties for detecting a embeded pattern in a larger pattern. The network is evaluated by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose a temporal adaptive tranform 3D SBC coder with motion compensation, exploiting redundancy in the temporal domain. We propose a temporal adaptivity measure, by which the R-D optimal temporal transform can be chaosen. The base temporal subband frame is coded using H.261-like MC-DCT coder, while the higher temporal subband frames are coded using the 2D adaptive wavelet packet bases, considering the various energy distribution which results from the temporal variation. In encoding the subbands, we employ adaptive scanning methods, uniform step-size quantization with VLC, and coded/not-coded flag reduction technique using the quadtree structure. From the simulation results, the proposed adaptive 3D subband coder shows about 0.29~3.14 dB gain over the H.261 and the fixed 3D subband coder techniques.

  • This paper presents a new temporal reasoning scheme based on explicit expression of time intervals. The proposed scheme deals with the general problem of temporal knowledge representation and temporal reasoning and may be used in rule-based systems and qualitative models. Time intervals, not time points, are defined in terms of orders and/or numbers in a quantity space. As a result, the system behavior is represented in the form of partially ordered networks. Such explicit and qualitative description of temporal quantities enables both reduction of ambiguity and parsimonious used of temporal information. Based on the proposed temporal reasoning scheme, a new rule-based qualitative simulation system is being built and evaluated.

  • We proposed the product recommendation algorithm mixed the temporal association rule and the exponential smoothing method. The temporal association rule added a temporal concept in a commercial association rule In this paper. we proposed a exponential smoothing temporal association rule that is giving higher weights to recent data than past data. Through simulation and case study in temporal data sets, we confirmed that it is more Precise than existing temporal association rules but consumes running time.

  • The estimation of missing sensor values is an important problem in sensor network applications, but the existing approaches have some limitations, such as the limitations of application scope and estimation accuracy. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new estimation model based on a spatial-temporal correlation analysis (STCAM). STCAM can make full use of spatial and temporal correlations and can recognize whether the sensor parameters have a spatial correlation or a temporal correlation, and whether the missing sensor data are continuous. According to the recognition results, STCAM can choose one of the most suitable algorithms from among linear interpolation algorithm of temporal correlation analysis (TCA-LI), multiple regression algorithm of temporal correlation analysis (TCA-MR), spatial correlation analysis (SCA), spatial-temporal correlation analysis (STCA) to estimate the missing sensor data. STCAM was evaluated over Intel lab dataset and a traffic dataset, and the simulation experiment results show that STCAM has good estimation accuracy.

  • In this study, the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model was used to assess spatiotemporal effects on watershed runoff and sediment characteristics due to land uses changes from 1999 to 2002 at the small watershed, located in Chuncheon-si, Gangwon province. The annual average flow rate of Scenario I (long-term simulation using land use of 1990), II (long-term simulation using land use of 1996), III(long-term simulation using land use of 200) and IV(simulation using land use of 1990, 1995, and 2000) in long-term simulation) using the SWAT model were 29,997,043 m3, 29,992,628 m3, 29,811,191 m3 and 29,931,238 m3, respectively. It was shown that there was no significant changes in estimated flow rate because no significant changes in land uses between 1990 and 2000 were observed. The annual average sediment loads of Scenarios I, II, III and IV for 15 year period were 36,643 kg/ha, 45,340 kg/ha , 27,195 kg/ha and 35,545 kg/ha, respectively. The estimated annual sediment loads from Scenarios I, II, and III, were different from that from the scenario IV, considering spatio-temporal changes in land use and meterological changes over the years, by 10%, 127%, and temporal changes in land use and meterological changes over the years, by 10%, 127%, and 77%. This can be explained in land use changes in high soil erosion potential areas, such as upland areas, within the study watershed. The comparison indicates that changes in land uses upland areas, within the study watershed. The comparison indicates that changes in land uses can affect on sediment yields by more than 10%, which could exceed the safety factor of 10% in Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs). It is, therefore, recommended that not only the temporal analysis with the weather input data but also spatial one with different land uses need to be considered in long-term hydrology and sediment simulating using the SWAT model
