  • In this paper we present and compare two different spatio-temporal decorrelation learning algorithms for updating the weights of a linear feedforward network with FIR synapses (MIMO FIR filter). Both standard gradient and the natural gradient are employed to derive the spatio-temporal decorrelation algorithms. These two algorithms are applied to multichannel blind deconvolution task and their performance is compared. The rigorous derivation of algorithms and computer simulation results are presented.

  • There is a large body of ongoing research to develop efficient prediction methods for data streams. These methods provide single prediction with a fixed time interval. It is necessary to develop a method for multi-interval prediction (MIP) because different prediction results may be obtained based on different intervals in many cases. In this paper, we propose a solution for MIP based on the Hierarchical Temporal Memory (HTM) model. In order to solve the problem of MIP with HTM, we present an Integrated Hierarchical Temporal Memory (IHTM) network by introducing a new node type Zeta1LastNode to the original HTM network. Using the hierarchical characteristic of the IHTM network, different levels in the network learn and model the features of a data stream with different intervals and generate prediction results for different intervals. Performance evaluation shows that the IHTM is efficient in the memory and time consumption compared with the original HTM network in MIP.

  • With the rapid evolution of communication technology, it became possible to overcome the spatial and temporal limitations faced by humans to some extent. Furthermore, the quality of personal life was revolutionized with the emergence of the personal communication device commonly known as the smart phone. In terms of defense networks, however, due to restrictions from the military and security perspectives, the use of smart phones has been prohibited and controlled in the army; thus, they are not being used for any defense strategy purposes as yet. Despite the current consideration of smart phones for military communication, due to the difficulties of network configuration and the high cost of the necessary communication devices, the main tools of communication between soldiers are limited to the use of flag, voice or hand signals, which are all very primitive. Although these primitive tools can be very effective in certain cases, they cannot overcome temporal and spatial limitations. Likewise, depending on the level of the communication skills of each individual, communication efficiency can vary significantly. As the term of military service continues to be shortened, however, types of communication of varying efficiency depending on the levels of skills of each individual newly added to the military is not desirable at all. To address this problem, it is essential to prepare an intuitive network configuration that facilitates use by soldiers in a short period of time by easily configuring the strategy network at a low cost while maintaining its security. Therefore, in this article, the author proposes a Zigbee-based local strategic network by using Opnet and performs a simulation accordingly.

  • In the public healthcare, a computational system that can automatically and efficiently detect and classify falls from a video sequence has significant potential. With the advancement of deep learning, which can extract temporal and spatial information, has become more widespread. However, traditional 3D CNNs that usually adopt shallow networks cannot obtain higher recognition accuracy than deeper networks. Additionally, some experiences of neural network show that the problem of gradient explosions occurs with increasing the network layers. As a result, an enhanced three-dimensional ResNet-based method for fall detection (3D-ERes-FD) is proposed to directly extract spatio-temporal features to address these issues. In our method, a 50-layer 3D residual network is used to deepen the network for improving fall recognition accuracy. Furthermore, enhanced residual units with four convolutional layers are developed to efficiently reduce the number of parameters and increase the depth of the network. According to the experimental results, the proposed method outperformed several state-of-the-art methods.

  • Many types of sensor data exhibit strong correlation in both space and time. Both temporal and spatial suppressions provide opportunities for reducing the energy cost of sensor data collection. Unfortunately, existing clustering algorithms are difficult to utilize the spatial or temporal opportunities, because they just organize clusters based on the distribution of sensor nodes or the network topology but not on the correlation of sensor data. In this paper, we propose a novel clustering algorithm based on the correlation of sensor data. We modify the advertisement sub-phase and TDMA schedule scheme to organize clusters by adjacent sensor nodes which have similar readings. Also, we propose a spatio-temporal suppression scheme for our clustering algorithm. In order to show the superiority of our clustering algorithm, we compare it with the existing suppression algorithms in terms of the lifetime of the sensor network and the size of data which have been collected in the base station. As a result, our experimental results show that the size of data is reduced and the whole network lifetime is prolonged.

  • In recent years, the air pollution and Air Quality Index (AQI) has been a pivotal point for researchers due to its effect on human health. Various research has been done in predicting the AQI but most of these studies, either lack dense temporal data or cover one or two air pollutant elements. In this paper, a hybrid Convolutional Neural approach integrated with recurrent neural network architecture (CNN-LSTM), is presented to find air pollution inference using a multivariate air pollutant elements dataset. The aim of this research is to design a robust and real-time air pollutant forecasting system by exploiting a neural network. The proposed approach is implemented on a 24-month dataset from Seoul, Republic of Korea. The predicted results are cross-validated with the real dataset and compared with the state-of-the-art techniques to evaluate its robustness and performance. The proposed model outperforms SVM, SVM-Polynomial, ANN, and RF models with 60.17%, 68.99%, 14.6%, and 6.29%, respectively. The model performs SVM and SVM-Polynomial in predicting O3 by 78.04% and 83.79%, respectively. Overall performance of the model is measured in terms of Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) and the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE).

  • In this paper, we present a new efficient event detection algorithm for sensor networks with faults. We focus on multi-attributed events, which are sets of data points that correspond to interesting or unusual patterns in the underlying phenomenon that the network monitors. Conventional algorithms cannot detect some events because they treat only their own sensor readings which can be affected easily by environmental or physical problem. Our approach exploits spatio-temporal correlation of sensor readings. Sensor nodes exchange a fault-tolerant code encoded their own readings with neighbors, organize virtual sensor readings which have spatio-temporal correlation, and determine a result for multi-attributed events from them. In the result, our proposed algorithm provides improvement of detecting multi-attributed events and reduces the number of false-negatives due to negative environmental effects.

  • The Temporal Database Management Testbed supports valid and transaction time. In this paper, we discuss the design and implementation of a testbed of a temporal database management system in main memory. The testbed consists of a syntactic analyzer, a semantic analyzer, a code generator, and an interpreter. The syntactic analyzer builds a parse tree from a temporal query. The semantic analyzer then checks it for correctness against the system catalog. The code generator builds an execution tree termed ann update network. We employ an incremental view materialization for the execution tree. After building the execution tree, the interpreter activates each node of the execution tree. Also, the indexing structure and the concurrency control are discussed in the testbed.

  • With the drastic growth of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry, global energy consumption is exponentially increased by mobile communications. The huge energy consumption and increased environmental awareness have triggered great interests on the research of dynamic distribution of cell user and traffic, and then designing the energy efficient cellular network. In this paper, we explore the temporal and spatial characteristics of human mobility and traffic distribution using real data set. The analysis results of cell traffic illustrate the tidal effect in temporal and spatial dimensions and obvious periodic characteristics which can be used to design Base Station (BS) dynamic with sleeping or shut-down strategy. At the same time, we designed a new Cell Zooming and BS cooperation mode. Through simulation experiments, we found that running in this mode can save about 35% of energy consumption and guarantee the required quality of service.
