Study on Combustion Gas Properties of a Fuel-Rich Gas Generator (연료 과농 가스발생기의 연소 가스 물성치에 관한 연구)

  • It is essential to predict thermodynamic properties of combustion gas with respect to a propellant mixture ratio for the development of a gas generator for a liquid rocket engine. The present study shows the temperature measurement of exit combustion gas as a function of a mixture ratio through the series of combustion tests of a fuel-rich gas generator with liquid oxygen and Jet A-1. The measurements of dynamic and static pressures, and combustion gas temperatures allowed the estimation of thermodynamic properties like a specific heat ratio, a gas constant, and a constant pressure specific heat of the combustion gas. The comparison of the experimental results with predictions made by interpolation parameters obtained from the modification of the chemical equilibrium code indicates that the interpolation method calibrated using the temperature measurements can be utilized as an effective tool for the initial design of a fuel-rich gas generator.

  • For the development of a gas generator of a liquid rocket engine, the prediction of thermodynamic properties of combustion gas with respect to a propellant mixture ratio becomes critical. The present study focuses on the temperature measurement of exit combustion gas as a function of a mixture ratio through combustion tests of a fuel-rich gas generator propelled by Lox/Jet A-1. The measurement of combustion dynamic and static pressures allowed indirect estimation of thermodynamic properties like specific heat ratio, gas constant, and constant pressure specific heat. Comparing the results with empirical prediction through an interpolation reveals that the interpolation method calibrated using temperature results can be utilized as an effective tool for the design of a fuel-rich gas generator.

  • In early constructed nuclear power plants, Ni-based Alloys 82/182 had been widely used for dissimilar metal welds (DMW) as a weld filler metal. However, Alloys 82/182 have been proven to be susceptible to primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) in the nuclear primary water environment. The formation of crack due to PWSCC is also influenced by weld residual stresses. Thus, the accurate estimation of weld residual stresses of DMW is crucial to investigate the possibility of PWSCC and instability behaviors of crack due to PWSCC. In this context, the present paper investigates weld residual stresses of nuclear reactor piping nozzles based on 2-D axi-symmetric finite element analyses based on layer-based approach using maximum molten bead temperature. In particular, the effect of analysis parameters, i.e., a thickness of weld layer, an initial molten bead temperature, convection heat transfer coefficient, and geometric constraints on predicted weld residual stresses was investigated.

Effect of Environmental Factors on the Growth, Glycogen and Hemoglobin Content of Cultured Arkshell, Scapharca broughtonii (서식환경에 따른 피조개 Scapharca broughtonii의 성장과 글리코겐 및 헤모글로빈량의 변화)

  • For the sustainable production of cultured arkshell Scapharca broughtonii and pre-estimation of the harvest of it, we investigated the relationship between the habitat environmental factors and the physiological conditions of the arkshell in the two experiment sites near the Chinhae Bay, Korea. For the analysis of habitat environmental factors such as temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, DIP (dissolved inorganic phosphate), DIN (dissolved inorganic nitrogen), suspended solids and chlorophyll a of bottom water and T-S (total sulfide) and COD (chemical oxygen demand) of surface sediment were measured, To determine physiolosical condition of cultured arkshell, shell length, fatness, glycogen, hemoglobin content and gametogenesis were examined. Water temperature were higher in Woongchon than in Songdo in 1992, and were Higher in Songdo in 1993. Salinity were higher in Songdo than in Woongchon except from January to May in 1992. COD, suspended solids and chlorophyll a content were higher in Songdo than in Woongchon, while the contents of sediment sulfide, DO, DIP and DIN were higher in Woongchon. Based on the environmental assessment, significant factors affecting the growth and physiological condition of arkshell were quantity of food and total sulfide content in the bottom sediment.

  • In this study, a methodology was devised to overcome that difficulty for thermal stratification modeling using EFDC. For the increase of reproductability for thermal stratification analysis, the effect of parameter such as distribution of solar radiation, depth of active bed temperature layer, heat transfer coefficients were analyzed. The simulation period was from June to December in 2005 and statistical index is used to analyze the model results. The results showed that distribution of solar radiation is zero and depth of active bed temperature layer is 10 m are suitable for simulation of thermal stratification in Yongdam Dam reservoir. This study results can be used for guideline to analyze the thermal stratification of large dam reservoir in Korea.

  • Remote sensing technique is a probable means to estimate distribution of actual evapotranspiration in connection with regional characteristics of vegetation and landuse. The factors controlling evapotranspiration from ground surface are air temperature, humidity, wind, radiation, soil moisture and so on. Not only the vegetation influences directly the evapotranspiration, but also these factors strongly influences the vegetation growth at the area. Therefore, it can be expected that evapotranspiration is highly correlated to vegetation condition. The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) showed excellent ability to get the vegetation information. The NDVI is obtained using NOAA/AVHRR have been studied as a tool for vegetation monitoring. In this paper, a simple method to estimate actual avapotranspiration is proposed based on vegetation and meteorological data.

  • In this study, it is willing to present that fundamental data for proposing quantitatively shrinkage cracking evaluation method such as plat-ring type restrained test method. To examine suitable size of specimen of plat-ring type restrained test method, Evaluated concrete about restrained shrinkage crack properties of numerical analysis of 3D solid element using the MIDAS program, drying shrinkage deformation, restrained shrinkage stress, crack area and crack point with inside ring diameter of specimen in 100mm, 150mm, 200mm and high of Specimen in 30mm, 50mm after curing in condition of constant temperature and usual habit of temperature 20${\pm}$3$^{\circ}$C, humidity 60${\pm}$5%. As a result, it was available about suitable estimation with inside ring diameter of specimen in more than 150mm and high of Specimen in 50mm. Hereafter, it is considered that the study concerning environmental condition and mixing factor in plat-ring type restrained test method is need.

Estimation of Diffusion Coefficient and Mass Transfer Coefficient in Microwave-Assisted Drying of Paclitaxel for Removal of Residual Methylene Chloride (잔류 메틸렌 클로라이드 제거를 위한 마이크로웨이브를 이용한 파클리탁셀건조에서 확산계수 및 물질전달계수 추정)

  • In this study, an effective diffusion coefficient and mass transfer coefficient were investigated in microwave-assisted drying of paclitaxel for removal of residual methylene chloride. At all the temperatures (35, 45, and $55^{\circ}C$), a large amount of the residual methylene chloride was initially removed during the drying, and the drying efficiency increased when increasing the drying temperature. The effective diffusion coefficient ($1.299{\times}10^{-13}{\sim}2.571{\times}10^{-13}m^2/s$) and mass transfer coefficient ($1.625{\times}10^{-11}{\sim}4.857{\times}10^{-11}m/s$) increased with increasing drying temperature. The small Biot number (0.0100~0.0151) indicated that the process of mass transfer was externally controlled.

The CO2 Reduction Potential Calculation through the Urban Park Construction

  • This study is to identify quantitatively the function of carbon dioxide emissions reduction due to temperature and energy reduction according to direct carbon dioxide storage, shade provision, and evaportanspiration of urban park. According to the result of study, landscape tree indicated high carbon dioxide storage effect compare to bush, in which broadleaf tree indicated higher storage function than coniferous tree. It is believed to be the storage of carbon dioxide can be increased by increasing the composition rate of forest plants in the urban park. According to the direct estimation result of carbon dioxide storage in terms of example area, storage of carbon dioxide is estimated to be "seoul a zone" $476,818.8kg{\cdot}CO_2/m^2yr$, "anyang b zone" $186,435.7{\cdot}CO_2/m^2yr$, "daejeon c zone" $262,826{\cdot}CO_2/m^2yr$, "kwangju d zone" $231,657.8{\cdot}CO_2/m^2yr$. The carbon dioxide storage per unit area estimated to be "seoul a zone" $3.4{\cdot}CO_2/m^2yr$, "anyang b zone" $5.0{\cdot}CO_2/m^2yr$, "daejeon c zone" $2.6{\cdot}CO_2/m^2yr$, "kwangju d zone" $5.6{\cdot}CO_2/m^2yr$. The result of indirect carbon dioxide reduction effect estimated to be "seoul a zone" $291,603.4{\cdot}CO_2/m^2yr$, "anyang b zone" $165,462.4{\cdot}CO_2/m^2yr$, "daejeon c zone" $141,719.2{\cdot}CO_2/m^2yr$, "kwangju d zone" $154,803.4{\cdot}CO_2/m^2yr$. Carbon dioxide reduction potential amount through the urban park was increased to 1.6 times to 1.8 times when calculated to the indirect effect.

Predicting Future Terrestrial Vegetation Productivity Using PLS Regression (PLS 회귀분석을 이용한 미래 육상 식생의 생산성 예측)

  • Since the phases and patterns of the climate adaptability of vegetation can greatly differ from region to region, an intensive pixel scale approach is required. In this study, Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression on satellite image-based vegetation index is conducted for to assess the effect of climate factors on vegetation productivity and to predict future productivity of forests vegetation in South Korea. The results indicate that the mean temperature of wettest quarter (Bio8), mean temperature of driest quarter (Bio9), and precipitation of driest month (Bio14) showed higher influence on vegetation productivity. The predicted 2050 EVI in future climate change scenario have declined on average, especially in high elevation zone. The results of this study can be used in productivity monitoring of climate-sensitive vegetation and estimation of changes in forest carbon storage under climate change.
