Change of Coastal Upwelling Index along the Southeastern Coast of Korea (동해 남부 연안용승지수의 변화)

  • Long-term trends and recent variations of upwelling index (UI), which affects significantly ecosystem in southwestern part of the East Sea, were investigated. The UI was calculated with the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data from January 1948 to September 2018. The mean UI has positive value that causes upwelling in April to August with a peak in July. The long-term reducing trend of UI was in statistically significant in June and July, and the sum of UI in May, June and July also showed same result. Through the atmospheric pressure analysis around the Korean peninsula, it was found that the trend of the UI was the influence of the pressure change trend in the northwestern region ($35-50^{\circ}N$, $114-129^{\circ}E$) of the southwestern part of the East Sea. Investigating UI in recent 7 years from 2012 to 2018, it was revealed that the UI was bigger than 3 times of standard deviation in July 2013. This was result from the sea level pressure difference became larger in the southwestern part of the East Sea than normal year due to the lowered air pressure in the northeastern region of China and the strengthened high air pressure of western peripheral of the North Pacific High. On the other hand, the UI in July 2018 was negative when the impact of the North Pacific High and the low air pressure in the northeastern China was weak. Due to the decreasing trend of UI and its large year-to-year variation in southwestern part of the East Sea, continuous monitoring is necessary to know the influence of coastal upwelling on the ecosystem.

A study on the estimation of wind noise level using the measured wind-speed data in the coastal area of the East Sea (동해 연안에서 관측된 풍속자료를 이용한 바람소음준위 추정 연구)

  • Unlike ship noise that radiates from moving ships, wind noise is caused by breaking waves as a result of the interaction between the wind and the sea surface. In this paper, WNL (Wind Noise Level) was modeled by considering the noise source of the wind as the bubble cloud generated by the breaking waves. In the modeling, SL( Source Level) of the wind noise was calculated using the wind-speed data measured from the weather buoy operated in the coastal area of the East Sea. At the same time as observing the wind speed, NL (Noise Level) was continuously measured using a self-recording hydrophone deployed near the weather buoy. The modeled WNL according to the wind speed and the measured NL removing the shipping noise from the acoustic raw data were compared in the low-frequency band. The overall trends between the modeled WNL and the measured NL were similar to each other. Therefore, it was confirmed that it is possible to model the WNL in the shallow water considering the SL and distribution depth of bubble cloud caused by the wind.

Analysis of SMEs Internationalization theory through Systematic Literature Review (체계적 문헌고찰을 통한 중소기업 국제화 연구 이론분석)

  • The objectives of this study is to Systematic literature review of internationalization of SMEs. Due to the economic characteristics of Korea, which depends on economic growth by exports, internationalization has become an essential management activity, not an option for SMEs. As a result, more than 400 studies related to the overseas expansion and internationalization of SMEs have been published in the past 20 years, focusing on major academic journals (such as KCI). Accordingly, the research trends used as advance research in internationalization research were analyzed of SMEs. Research targets were defined as the internationalization of SMEs and searched through 'RISS' (Research Information Sharing Service) as 'internationalization', 'global ', 'export', 'overseas expansion' and 'theory'. The analysis was carried out using a Systematic literature review. It was selected as the 76 studies and According to international research subjects and characteristics, the four areas of internationalization motive, process, outcomes, and support were analyzed. The results of the study confirmed that the most active research is focused on internationalization outcomes. This study could provide a support and the parties concerned in the ecosystem of SMEs in Korea with implications for the SMEs overseas market.

Current Research Trends for Recovery of Rare Earth Elements Contained in Coal Ash (석탄재에 포함된 희토류 회수 연구동향)

  • This study aims to introduce and review on the recovery technologies of rare earth elements(REEs) from coal ash. Many researchers have been carried out by various beneficiation processes, such as particle size separation, magnetic separation, specific gravity, and flotation to recover rare earth elements from coal ash generated from Pulverized Coal(PC) boiler. Through the beneficiation process, it was confirmed that concentration of rare earth elements was much lower than the 4,700 ppm, and that additional enrichment treatment through wet process was needed for the products recovered after the beneficiation process. It was confirmed that the rare earth elements contained in coal ash were applied to the leaching process after pretreatment such as alkali-fusion to improve leaching efficiency. Although beneficiation and leaching methods have been studied, its optimum recovery technologies for rare earth elements not been confirmed up to now, research on the recovery of rare earth contained in coal ash is reported to continue. In case of Korea, the technology for the recovery of rare earth elements from coal ash and coal by-product could not been confirmed up to present. In these reasons, it is urgent to develop technologies such as beneficiation and leaching process continuously.

  • This study sets the solar power system installed and applied to the vertical side wall among the photovoltaic systems in the building as the scope of the research. The theoretical background was considered through literature research as a research method, and the current status, trends and characteristics of solar generator design installed and applied to domestic and foreign vertical side walls were then investigated and analyzed cases. As a result, the importance and necessity of photovoltaic generators, potential for power generation and growth were identified, and positive factors and directions were found for improving aestheticity. Based on this point, we would like to propose expected effects that can be applied to photovoltaic system design installed and applied to vertical side walls in the future, and confirm the direction and significance of the improvement of aesthetic quality of the proposal for development of thin film solar cell design technology using green facade design.

Ways to Improve Activation of Port-Type Free Trade Zones (항만형 자유무역지역의 활성화를 위한 제도 개선에 관한 연구)

  • The free-trade-zone system has been implemented in industrial-complex-type free-trade zones with a focus on the manufacturing industry since 1970, and was intended to attract foreign investment and increase trade by providing benefits such as tax reduction and deregulation to tenant companies. However, foreign investment in these industrial-complex-type free trade zones has decreased significantly. On the other hand, port-type free-trade zones have great potential to attract foreign investment for development due to the increase in port traffic. The developmental trends in the free-trade-zone system have been studied primarily in the manufacturing industry, and those studies must be extended. In this paper, the role and operation of free-trade zones are examined and problems highlighted. We analyzed a business model specialized in port-type free-trade zones to identify problems, propose measures to improve the system for re-exporting domestic goods to the customs area for storage, and upgrade overall operations. The effects of our measures were analyzed by simple simulation. These proposed improvements in the operation of port-type free-trade zones will help attract foreign companies to these international logistics hubs and global delivery centers.

Home training trend analysis using newspaper big data and keyword analysis (신문 빅데이터와 키워드 분석을 이용한 홈트레이닝 트렌드 분석)

  • Recently, the COVID-19 virus has caused people to stay indoors longer without going out. As a result of this, people's activity decreased sharply, and their weight gained. So people became more interested in health. Home training can be an alternative method to solve this problem. Accordingly, To find out the trends of home training, we collected articles from December 1, 2019, to November 30, 2020, using the news provided by BIG KINDS, a news analysis system. We analyzed frequency analysis, relational analysis according to weighting, and related word analysis with the program using the algorithm developed by BIG KINDS. In conclusion, first, it was found that home training is led by technology and the emergence of artificial intelligence. Second, it can be assumed that people mainly do home training using content and video services related to mobile carriers. Third, people had a high preference for Pilates in the sports category. It can be seen that the number of patent applications increased as the demand for exercise products related to Pilates increased. In the next study, we expect that this study will be used as primary data for various big data studies by supplementing the research methodology and conducting various analyses.

Discrimination of the geographical origin of commercial sesame oils using fatty acids composition combined with linear discriminant analysis (지방산 조성과 선형판별분석을 활용한 유통판매 참기름의 원산지 판별)

  • In this study, the fatty acid (FA) composition of commercial sesame oils (n = 62) was investigated using gas chromatography with flame ionization detector (GC-FID). Multivariate statistical techniques, including principal component analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA), were applied to the chromatographic data of the FAs to discriminate the geographical origin of sesame oils. A statistically significant difference was observed in the content of C16:0, C18:0, C18:1, and C18:2 between domestic and imported sesame oils. A satisfactory recovery rate of 82.8-100.2 % was achieved for C16:0, C18:0, C18:1, C18:2, and C18:3. The correlation of C16:0, C18:1, and C18:2 in domestic sesame oils showed opposite trends compared to imported oils. The PCA plot demonstrated that sesame oils were clustered in distinct groups according to their origin. LDA was used to predict sesame oil samples in one of the two groups. C16:0 (Wilks λ = 0.361) and C18:1 (Wilks λ = 0.637) demonstrated the highest discriminant power for classifying the origin of the samples. The correct prediction rates were 88.9 % and 100 % for the domestic and imported samples, respectively. Further, 60 of the 62 sesame oil samples (96.8 %) were correctly classified, indicating that this approach can be used as a valuable tool to predict and classify the geographical origin of sesame oils.

Comparison of Research Performance Between Domestic and International Library and Information Science Scholars (국제 및 국내 문헌정보학 분야의 연구성과 비교 분석)

  • In order to assess the state of library and information science (LIS) research in Korea, the study analyzed bibliometric data of papers published in past 18 years in Korea Citation Index (KCI) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) journals. The analysis of study data, which consisted of 6,301 KCI journal papers with 26,474 citations and 86,727 SSCI journal papers with 1,196,961 citations from 2002 to 2020, involved comparison of research productivity and impact, collaboration trends, and key areas of research between domestic and international LIS scholars with normalizations by units of analysis for size differences. Even with size normalization, the study found a marked difference in citation patterns between domestic and international LIS research. Korean LIS authors were twice as productive as international LIS authors but a little over a half as impactful. The results also showed a much higher level of skewness in international research, where a fraction of top authors, institutions, and journals received a lion's share of citations. The trend of increasing co-authorship was much more pronounced among international publication, where the recent popularity of larger collaboration groups suggests multi-disciplinary and increasingly complex nature of modern LIS research in the world stage. The keyword analysis revealed a much more diverse subject area in international than domestic LIS research with a recent shift towards technology, such as big data, blockchain, and altmetrics. Keywords in SSCI journals also exhibited a less connection between popularity and impact than KCI keywords, where popular keywords did not necessarily correspond to impactful keywords.

Current Status and Direction of Weed Management According to Cropping Systems (작부체계에 따른 잡초관리 연구 동향과 방향)

  • The present study was conducted to propose future research directions for weed management by examining the current trends of research on weed occurrence according to cropping systems. The cropping systems are developed for the efficient use of arable land, and the weed flora changes according to the management practices of a given cropping system. In particular, weed occurrence can be reduced by altering the soil environment. In addition, cultivation methods, such as tillage, affect the weed seed bank in the soil, thus altering the pattern of weed occurrence. Here, we propose three weed management practices according to the cropping system. First, it is necessary to develop a model that can classify weed species by analyzing young seedlings and can predict the flora in the field. Second, it is important to manage the cropping system history and establish a database of agricultural information, which can be linked to meteorological and geographic data. Third, it is critical to estimate the weed occurrence and soil seed bank dynamics, based on which a cropping system platform and digitalization technology can be developed. In the future, the prediction of weed occurrence and control according to the cropping system will contribute to sustainable agriculture by reducing the use of herbicides and solving the problems of resistant weeds.
