  • This study was carried out to improve the forest management method considering the use of high value added timber in the natural broadleaf forests. For this purpose, the criteria for evaluating the quality grade of standing trees were established and applied to the oak stand in the central region of Korea. The evaluation factors of the grade were bending of stem, branch, stem damage, and other defects. If the logs are divided into 2.1 m units and three logs up to 6.3 m are available, they are classified as Grade I (G-I). If two logs are available, they are classified as Grade II (G-II), If only one log is available, it is classified as Grade III (G-III). When any log is not available as timber, it is classified as Grade IV (G-IV). As a result of applying the grade to the oak stand, G-I was 6.7 %, G-II was 28.0 %, G-III was 38.3 %, and G-IV was 27.0 %. The ratio of standing trees by oak species of higher than G-III was 88.2 % for Quercus acutissima, 88.1 % for Q. variabilis, 83.5 % for Q. serrata, 56.3 % for Q. aliena, and 50.3 % for Q. mongolica, respectively. The G-IV ratio for Q. variabilis and Q. mongolica tended to decrease with increasing diameter at breast height. The order of major defect affecting the grading level was bending of stem > branch > stem damage > other defects. Considering the grade level and oak species distribution, it was concluded possible to produce high quality hardwood timber when we concentrate forest tending techniques on Q. acutissima and Q. variabilis stand. In order to improve the accuracy of grading, it is necessary to continuous complement through the monitoring research for evaluation factors.

  • Hallabong peel oils grown in open field and green house were extracted by hand-pressing flavedo and collected on ice. Volatile flavor components of Hallabong peel oils were identified and compared by using gas chromatography and mass- spectrometry. Forty-four flavor components were identified in open field oil and 45 flavor components in green house oil. (E) -Limonene-1,2-epoxide and neral were identified only in Hallabong oil grown in open field, on the other hand, $\beta$-cubebene, $\beta$-elemene and decyl acetate were detected only in green house oil. Limonene was the most abundant component in both oils as more than 86$\%$ of peak weight, followed by sabinene (1.8$\~$ 3.6$\%$) and myrcene (2.4$\~ $2.6$\%$). The difference of the volatile profile between open field and green house oils were significantly characterized by identification and quantity of alcohol group. The total alcohols in open field and green house oils accounted for 1.8$\%$ and 0.8$\%$, respectively. Among alcohols, the level of linalool was relatively high in open field oil (1.2$\%$), however, it accounted for 0.5$\%$ in green house oil. Flavor properties of fresh Hallabong peel and flesh were also examined by sensory evaluation. Flavor properties of fresh Hallabong grown in open field were relatively stronger on both peel and flesh by sensory analysis. Sweetness was strong in Hallabong flesh from open field, and sourness in that from green house. The sensory evaluation of the preference in consideration of taste and aroma was significantly high in Hallabong grown in open field (p<0.01). From the present study, the stronger flayer properties and the preference of Hallabong from open field by sensory evaluation seem to be associated with the high level of linalool in its peel oil, and the composition of monoterpene hydrocarbons such as sabinene and (E) -$\beta$ -ocimene.

  • Irrigation water quality along Donjin river watershed was monitored to find a possible pollutant, for maintaining water quality to achieve food safety through water quality preservation of river. As a pollution indicators, such as Biological Oxygen Demand(BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD), Total Nitrogen(T-N), and Total Phosphate(T-P) in Dongjin river were examined from May to November in 2001. The results were as follows : The BOD level of Dongjin river ranged from 2.84 to 6.45 mg/L, which would be in a II$\sim$IV grade of the potable water criteria by Ministry of Environment. Averaged BOD level of downstream DJ6(After Jeongupcheon confluence) was 4.07 mg/L. The average COD level of Dongjin river ranged from 11.20 to 32.96 mg/L. COD level of DJ6 rapidly increased rapidly after the junction of Dongjin river and Jungupcheon because it showed the latter had relatively high pollution level. T-N content were significantly high in all sites of Dongjin river ranged through 4.16 to 5.84 mg/L. T-P examined high concentration than another thing point by 0.19 mg/L after Jeongupcheon confluence as BOD and COD. COD of main stream was expressed high concentration to dry season after rainy season. In case of T-P, pollution degree of dry season before rainy season appeared and examined that quality of water was worsened go by dry season after rainy season. The water quality of Dongjin river was deteriorated with inflow of Jungupcheon polluted by municipal and industrial sites near Jungup city.

  • Learning Diagnosis & Prescription Service(LDPS) in Cyber Home Learning System is a educational service which provides customized learning contents based on student's academic level and individualized counseling and comments after diagnosing learner's study habits beyond the past e-Learning systems which offer the same contents to different students. For a national point of view, it is a crucial project in public education to achieve the goals of the next-generation e-Learning service by making a lot efforts both in time and money. However, those efforts has been made, not in terms of providing a better quality of service and a better user experience in a effective and enjoyable way, but in terms of developing the technology-driven system. Therefore, in this study, two types of usability evaluations has been conducted in order to enhance a user experience on the LDPS. One is the expert reviews by utilizing the usability evaluation tools (heuristics) which was focused on educational contexts developed by Suh Young-suhk(2007). The other is the user testing with students who have done think-aloud during the evaluation, remembering their retrospective experience with LDPS, and the interview with teachers & service operators were conducted. As the implications on the research, this is an effort to provide an user-friendly educational system for the students nationwide.

  • There is no safety evaluation index with marine accidents and information of ship's safety management result for good grasp of safety management level of shipping company and effective monitoring. In this paper, we proposed a SMEI(Safety Management Evaluation Index) for evaluation of shipping companies. The SMEI is consist of MAR(marine accidents ratio), SSMR(ship safety management ratio) and SAP(safety advantage point) through brainstorming of the expert group and AHP(analysis hierarchy process)in previous study. And weights of SMEI are calculated using experts's opinions through the Delphi method. We also verified the validity of proposed SMEI to 119 Korean shipping companies with 916 ocean-going ships of Korean flag, which grouped three part (small, mid and big) by number of ship and gross tonnage. And we found out 19 shipping companies, 8 companies in group1 & group2 respectively and 3 companies in group 3, with score below 1.0 by SMEI. In these companies, there are no marine accidents in recent 3 years and appeared low frequency remarkably in the detention and mojor non-conformity by data analysis.

  • The government introduced the technical proposal drafting system in September 2007, as a new method to stimulate technical competence among construction companies to require ingenuity, creativity, artistic sense, and high-level technology. However, an examination of instances has shown that this system has been applied only to large scale constructions worth 30 billion won or more, and not to small and medium constructions worth less than 30 billion won. This is because the evaluation criteria of the system is structured in a manner that makes it difficult to apply to small and medium constructions. This study presented methods to improve the evaluation factors, categories, and scoring scheme of the technical proposal creation system for medium to small scale constructions to be able to further apply the current system to small and medium constructions. The technical proposal evaluation criteria presented in this study was significant in that it enabled the technical proposal creation system that was mainly used for large scale constructions to be further applied to medium to small scale constructions. And it also contributes to the establishment and settlement of a new technical proposal tendering for medium to small scale constructions.

  • High performance liquid chromatographic methods for the simultaneous determination of 12 biogenic amines were developed and contents of biogenic amines in 23 varieties of Korean commercial fermented food were analyzed. Dansyl derivatives of biogenic amine were very stable and had good peak resolution. Except agmatine, the recovery of biogenic amines from soybean paste with extraction of 0.1 N HC1 added biogenic amines to soybean paste was greater 85%. The calibration curve showed good linearity over a concentration range up to 50 ${\mu}g/mL$. In the determination of biogenic amine level in Korean commercial fermented foods, doenjang and chungkukjang (fermented soybean pastes), soy sauce, anchovy and pacific sand lance liquid jeotkal (fermented fish sauce products), and cabbage kimchi had high level biogenic amines. Especially, traditional doenjang had a histamine (HIS) level of 952.0 mg/kg, a tyramine (TYR) level of 1,430.7 mg/kg. Most cheese had low level of biogenic amines, but one Gouda cheese had a tyramine (TYR) level of 97.5 mg/kg. A low level of biogenic amines was detected in wines, beer, yoghurt, and sausage. Putrescine (PUT), cadaverine (CAD), tryptamine (TRY), histamine (HIS), tyramine (TYR), and 2-phenylethylamine (PHE) were mainly formed in fermented foods by the action of microorganism, so their levels were high with a range. On the other hand, spermidine (SPD), spermine(SPM), serotonin (SER), noradrenaline (NOR), and dopamine (DOP) were formed originally via biosynthesis with consequent low level.

  • The low frequency noise below 200 Hz, including inaudible infra-sound, is known to affect human physiology ; circulation, respiration, nerve, endocrine, etc. Legislation has been introduced in several countries regarding evaluation guideline and measurement method of low frequency noise. In this work, low frequency characteristics of the Seoul subway transportation system was investigated in terms of the noise level and spectrum in the interior of running passenger car and the subway station. The interior sound pressure level of the passenger car was between 60 and 105 dB in the frequency range of $1{\sim}200\;Hz$ and varied with car speed. The marked sound pressure level peak at 8 Hz, infra-sound, observed for the most of Lines is shown to correspond to the resonance frequency of passenger car. The level of station platform noise was lower than the interior noise of running car because of the lower speed at arriving/departure. The results indicated that the interior noise level of running passenger car was inside the oppressive feeling region, proposed by Ochiai, in the frequency range of $20{\sim}80\;Hz$ which makes a little concern.

  • Due to physical processes varying in space and time, regional sea-level rise (SLR) significantly deviates from the global mean. Thus, understanding and quantifying the contribution of each process to regional sea-level change is crucial to prevent low-lying inundation in preparation for future ocean conditions. In this study, we assessed to what degree sterodynamic (SD) effects (i.e., density-driven steric expansion and mass redistribution due to ocean circulation), contemporary mass redistribution (CMR), and glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) contribute relative sea-level rise around the Korean coast from 1993 to 2018, with independent observations and reanalysis datasets. The assessment showed that the tide gauge-observed SLR trend can be explained by the sum of each component at 16 of 19 locations. The major contributors to relative SLR are SD effects of 2.03±0.27 mm/yr and CMR components of 1.31±0.05 mm/yr, while GIA drives sea-level decreasing of -0.27±0.15 mm/yr on the Korean coast. It was also found that the spatial deviations of SLR are primarily caused by the SD effects. In addition, the evaluation of vertical land motion (VLM) based on altimetry and tide gauge indicates that most tide gauge locations have experienced uplift during at least altimetry period, whereas Wido station has experienced particularly high rate of subsidence that contributed to the SLR acceleration. Further examination of the impact of earth deformation due to CMR, GIA, and local process on the VLM trends demonstrated that the GIA and CMR contribute to land uplift with the average of 0.35±0.15 mm/yr and 0.17±0.05 mm/yr, respectively. On the other hand, the local processes like groundwater depletion and sediment compaction showed a wide range of variability, from -1.61 to 0.58 mm/yr, indicating a significant contribution to regional differences in vertical land motion.
