  • Biomass and community composition of microphytobentos in tidal flats were studied by HPLC analysis and also investigated to examine the relationship between microphytobenthic pigments and Adenosine-5' triphosphate (ATP) as an index of total microbial biomass in intertidal environments (muddy and sandy sediment) of Gyeonggi Bay, west coast of Korea. Microphytobenthic pigments and ATP concentration in muddy sediment were the highest at the surface while the biomass of microphytobenthos in sandy sediment was the highest at the sub-surface (0.75 cm sediment depth). The detected pigments of microphytobenthos were chlorophyll a, b (euglenophytes), $c_3$, peridinin (dinoflagellates), fucoxanthin (diatom or chrysophytes), diadinoxanthin, alloxanthin (cryptophytes), diatoxanthin, zeaxanthin (cyanobacteria), ${\beta}$-carotein, and pheophytin a (the degraded product of chlorophyll a). Among the pigments which were detected, the concentration of fucoxanthin was the highest, indicating that diatoms dominated in the microphytobenthic community of the tidal flats. There was little significant correlation between OC (Organic Carbon) and ATP in both sediments. However, a positive correlation between chlorophyll a concentration and ATP concentration was found in sandy sediment, suggesting that microbial biomass could be affected by labile OC derived from microphytobenthos. These results provide information that may help us understand the relationship between microphytobenthos and microbial biomass in different intertidal sediment environments.

  • Over the past several years, colloidal core/shell type quantum dots lighting-emitting diodes (QDLEDs) have been extensively studied and developed for the future of optoelectronic applications. In the work, we fabricate an inverted CdSe/ZnS quantum dot (QD) based light-emitting diodes (QDLED). In order to reduce work function of indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode for inverted structure, a very thin (<10 nm) polyethylenimine ethoxylated (PEIE) is used as surface modifier[1] instead of conventional metal oxide electron injection layer. The PEIE layer substantially reduces the work function of ITO electrodes which is estimated to be 3.08 eV by ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (UPS). From transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study, CdSe/ZnS QDs are uniformly distributed and formed by a monolayer on PEIE layer. In this inverted QDLEDs, blend of poly (9,9-di-n-octyl-fluorene-alt-benzothiadiazolo) and poly(N,N'-bis(4-butylphenyl)-N,N'-bis(phenyl)benzidine] are used as hole transporting layer (HTL) to improve hole transporting property. At the operating voltage of 8 V, the QDLED device emitted spectrally orange color lights with high luminance up to 2450 cd/m2, and showed current efficacy of 0.6 cd/A, respectively.

  • In the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, it is important for companies to understand the changing environment by converging various technologies and to respond to the changing business environment. In this study, we conducted a social network analysis on 10 firms in the automotive industry, which have recently been accelerating their competition for technology development, by extracting convergence patents co-classified in two or more of the US registered patents in the last 6 years. As a result, it has been confirmed that the number of technology related to the convergence of the automotive field is greatly increasing, and the convergence between the technologies is becoming stronger. In addition, Volkswagen, Ford and Hyundai showed significant changes in technology convergence. They were analyzed as having a change in strategy in eco-friendly automotive technologies. This study suggests various ways for companies to utilize the results of network analysis more meaningfully.

  • To develop an easy and rapid method of quantifying lipid contents of marine dinoflagellates, we quantified lipid contents of common dinoflagellate species using a colorimetric method based on the sulpho-phospho-vanillin reaction. In this method, the optical density measured using a spectrophotometer was significantly positively correlated with the known lipid content of a standard oil (Canola oil). When using this method, the lipid content of each of the dinoflagellates Alexandrium minutum, Prorocentrum micans, P. minimum, and Lingulodinium polyedrum was also significantly positively correlated with the optical density and equivalent intensity of color. Thus, when comparing the color intensity or the optical density of a sample of a microalgal species with known color intensities or optical density, the lipid content of the target species could be rapidly quantified. Furthermore, the results of the sensitivity tests showed that only $1-3{\times}10^5cells$ of P. minimum and A. minutum, $10^4cells$ of P. micans, and $10^3cells$ of L. polyedrum (approximately 1-5 mL of dense cultures) were needed to determine the lipid content per cell. When the lipid content per cell of 9 dinoflagellates, a diatom, and a chlorophyte was analyzed using this method, the lipid content per cell of these microalgae, with the exception of the diatom, were significantly positively correlated with cell size, however, volume specific lipid content per cell was negatively correlated with cell size. Thus, this sulpho-phospho-vanillin method is an easy and rapid method of quantifying the lipid content of autotrophic, mixotrophic, and heterotrophic dinoflagellate species.

  • The convergence of the automotive industry and the ICT technology can be broadly divided into the commercial service sector and the Cooperative-ITS (C-ITS) service sector. The C-ITS service sector is using V2X communication technology as a field that aims to provide safer transportation, more green and efficient transportation, and more predictable and productive mobility. The recent convergence of self-driving cars and connected cars requires high data rates, low transmission delays, and low transmission error rates. Interest in comparison of performance between WAVE and C-V2X (LTE-V2X, 5G-V2X) has been amplified and application services by communication technology are being studied. In this paper, we design the application performance evaluation method of Hybrid V2X communication system and confirm that the decrease of packet error rate (PER) performance is caused by the increase of communication distance, not the vehicle speed.

  • According to the NIS, damages due to leaking industrial technology are reaching tens of trillion won. The type of damages are classified according to insider leaks, joint research, and hacking, illegal technology leaks and collaborated camouflaged. But 80% of them turned out to be an insider leak about connecting with physical security. The convergence of IT and non IT is accelerating, and the boundaries between all area are crumbling. Information Security Industry has grown continuously focusing Private Information Security which is gradually expanding to Knowledge Information Security Industry, but Information Security Industry hereafter is concentrated with convergence of IT Security Technology and product, convergence of IT Security and Physical Security, and IT convergence Industry Security. In this paper, for preventing company information leaks, logical security and physical security both of them are managed at the same level. In particular, using convergence of physical security systems (access control systems, video security systems, and others) and IT integrated security control system, convergence security monitoring model is proposed that is the prevention of external attacks and insider leaks, blocked and how to maximize the synergy effect of the analysis.

  • This study investigates the convergence in per capita $CO_2$ emission by income group for an unbalanced panel of 152 countries from 1980 to 2013 using beta and sigma convergence model. Absolute beta and sigma convergence differed by $CO_2$ emission reduction policies in each countries. Conditional beta convergence shows that per capita income has a negative effect on growth in per capita $CO_2$ emission. In particular, better-quality institutions and technology accelerated the negative effect of per capita income on the speed of convergence of per capita $CO_2$ emission in high-income countries. For middle-income countries, the growth of income affected the convergence of $CO_2$ emission per capita, but institutional quality has an insignificant impact. On the other hand, improvements in the level of technology have a mitigating effect on the negative impact of income in middle-income and low-income countries, contributing to the increase in $CO_2$ emission.
