External Technology Acquisition of SMEs in the Machinery Industry of Bangalore

  • This paper is an attempt to understand the external technology acquisition (ETA) process of the machinery SME sector in Bangalore city, India. With the onset of economic liberalization, Bangalore based machinery SMEs have significantly shifted their ETAs from India to abroad, particularly Germany and Japan, among others. The primary objective of ETAs is to enhance their competitiveness by means of improving product quality and productivity as well as meeting customer demand. Replacing outdated machinery or overcoming technological obsolescence is a primary objective of only a few. As a result, majority of the SMEs has gone for multiple ETAs since their inception and we found a statistically significant positive correlation between firm age and number of ETAs. The present study has made two empirical contributions: (i) We have thrown light on the core technology up-gradation issue - How do SMEs approach the problem of external technology acquisition in the current globalization era? (ii) We are able to identify and develop a map of ETA process based on the "learning and experiences" of these SMEs.

방위사업에 적용 가능한 시스템 엔지니어링 표준에 대한 고찰 (A Study on the System Engineering Standard Applicable to Defense Program)

  • The system engineering should be actively applied to successfully develop a complex and advanced weapon system, because the system engineering uses a multidisciplinary approach. Therefore, this study proposed a system engineering process for a successful weapon system development. According to the national standard policy, an IPT aspect system engineering standard must adapt the ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288. It also asks for tailoring with considering the IPT characteristics as a weapon system acquisition institution. The IPT aspect system engineering process to acquire a weapon system can be expressed with 3 process groups (Agreement, Technical Management, Technical) and 20 processes. There was a need for an institutional framework to hire retired experts from related organizations as consultants to apply the low-cost and high efficiency system engineering in the weapon system acquisition field.

수변녹지 조성을 위한 토지매수 우선순위 산정 방안 연구 (A Study on Land Acquisition Priority for Establishing Riparian Buffer Zones in Korea)

  • The Korean government has purchased land properties alongside any significant water bodies before setting up the buffers to secure water qualities. Since the annual budgets are limited, however, there has always been the issue of which land parcels ought to be given the priority. Therefore, this study aims to develop efficient mechanism for land acquisition priorities in stream corridors that would ultimately be vegetated for riparian buffer zones. The criteria of land acquisition priority were driven through literary review along with experts' advice. The relative weights of their value and priorities for each criterion were computed using the Analytical Hierarchy Process(AHP) method. Major findings of the study are as follows: 1. The decision-making structural model for land acquisition priority focuses mainly on the reduction of non-point source pollutants(NSPs). This fact is highly associated with natural and physical conditions and land use types of surrounding areas. The criteria were classified into two categories-NSPs runoff areas and potential NSPs runoff areas. 2. Land acquisition priority weights derived for NSPs runoff areas and potential NSPs runoff areas were 0.862 and 0.138, respectively. This implicates that much higher priority should be given to the land parcels with NSPs runoff areas. 3. Weights and priorities of sub-criteria suggested from this study include: proximity to the streams(0.460), land cover(0.189), soil permeability(0.117), topographical slope(0.096), proximity to the roads(0.058), land-use types(0.036), visibility to the streams(0.032), and the land price(0.012). This order of importance suggests, as one can expect, that it is better to purchase land parcels that are adjacent to the streams. 4. A standard scoring system including the criteria and weights for land acquisition priority was developed which would likely to allow expedited decision making and easy quantification for priority evaluation due to the utilization of measurable spatial data. Further studies focusing on both point and non-point pollutants and GIS-based spatial analysis and mapping of land acquisition priority are needed.

Performance Study of Satellite Image Processing on Graphics Processors Unit Using CUDA

  • High resolution satellite images are now widely used for a variety of mapping applications including photogrammetry, GIS data acquisition and visualization. As the spectral and spatial data size of satellite images increases, a greater processing power is needed to process the images. The solution of these problems is parallel systems. Parallel processing techniques have been developed for improving the performance of image processing along with the development of the computational power. However, conventional CPU-based parallel computing is often not good enough for the demand for computational speed to process the images. The GPU is a good candidate to achieve this goal. Recently GPUs are used in the field of highly complex processing including many loop operations such as mathematical transforms, ray tracing. In this study we proposed a technique for parallel processing of high resolution satellite images using GPU. We implemented a spectral radiometric processing algorithm on Landsat-7 ETM+ imagery using CUDA, a parallel computing architecture developed by NVIDIA for GPU. Also performance of the algorithm on GPU and CPU is compared.

Road Centerline Tracking From High Resolution Satellite Imagery By Least Squares Templates Matching

  • Road information is very important for topographic mapping, transportation application, urban planning and other related application fields. Therefore, automatic detection of road networks from spatial imagery, such as aerial photos and satellite imagery can play a central role in road information acquisition. In this paper, we use least squares correlation matching alone for road center tracking and show that it works. We assumed that (bright) road centerlines would be visible in the image. We further assumed that within a same road segment, there would be only small differences in brightness values. This algorithm works by defining a template around a user-given input point, which shall lie on a road centerline, and then by matching the template against the image along the orientation of the road under consideration. Once matching succeeds, new match proceeds by shifting a matched target window further along road orientation at the target window. By repeating the process above, we obtain a series of points, which lie on a road centerline successively. A 1m resolution IKONOS images over Seoul and Daejeon were used for tests. The results showed that this algorithm could extract road centerlines in any orientation and help in fast and exact he ad-up digitization/vectorization of cartographic images.

실내환경에서의 2 차원/ 3 차원 Map Modeling 제작기법 (A 2D / 3D Map Modeling of Indoor Environment)

  • In large scale environments like airport, museum, large warehouse and department store, autonomous mobile robots will play an important role in security and surveillance tasks. Robotic security guards will give the surveyed information of large scale environments and communicate with human operator with that kind of data such as if there is an object or not and a window is open. Both for visualization of information and as human machine interface for remote control, a 3D model can give much more useful information than the typical 2D maps used in many robotic applications today. It is easier to understandable and makes user feel like being in a location of robot so that user could interact with robot more naturally in a remote circumstance and see structures such as windows and doors that cannot be seen in a 2D model. In this paper we present our simple and easy to use method to obtain a 3D textured model. For expression of reality, we need to integrate the 3D models and real scenes. Most of other cases of 3D modeling method consist of two data acquisition devices. One for getting a 3D model and another for obtaining realistic textures. In this case, the former device would be 2D laser range-finder and the latter device would be common camera. Our algorithm consists of building a measurement-based 2D metric map which is acquired by laser range-finder, texture acquisition/stitching and texture-mapping to corresponding 3D model. The algorithm is implemented with laser sensor for obtaining 2D/3D metric map and two cameras for gathering texture. Our geometric 3D model consists of planes that model the floor and walls. The geometry of the planes is extracted from the 2D metric map data. Textures for the floor and walls are generated from the images captured by two 1394 cameras which have wide Field of View angle. Image stitching and image cutting process is used to generate textured images for corresponding with a 3D model. The algorithm is applied to 2 cases which are corridor and space that has the four wall like room of building. The generated 3D map model of indoor environment is shown with VRML format and can be viewed in a web browser with a VRML plug-in. The proposed algorithm can be applied to 3D model-based remote surveillance system through WWW.

도시방재정보 구축을 위한 PPK GNSS 기반의 무인항공사진측량 (PPK GNSS System based UAV Photogrammetry for Construction of Urban Disaster Prevention Information)

  • 무인항공기는 최근 공간정보 분야 수요 증가에 따라 측량, 지도제작, 공간분석 등 다양한 분야에 활용되고 있으며, 신속한 데이터 취득이 가능하고, 경제성이 뛰어나기 때문에 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 무인항공사진측량을 도시방재정보 구축 분야에 적용하고자 하였다. 연구대상지에 대한 PPK(Post Processed Kinematic) GNSS 기반의 무인항공영상 취득 및 데이터 처리를 통해 수치표고모델과 정사영상을 생성하고, 결과물을 이용한 공간분석을 수행하였다. 또한 PPK GNSS 방법을 적용한 무인항공사진측량의 업무흐름을 기존 방법과 비교하였다. 연구를 통해 대상지역에 대한 도시방재정보를 효과적으로 구축할 수 있었으며, 기존 무인항공사진측량과 비교를 통해 PPK GNSS 방법의 효율성을 제시할 수 있었다. 향후 도시방재정보 구축 분야의 무인항공사진측량 활용에 있어 PPK GNSS 기법을 활용한다면 신속한 데이터 취득 및 처리로 관련 업무의 효율성을 크게 개선시킬 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

자연환경조사에서 실시간 GIS구현을 위한 가상사무실 기반의 필드멥핑 (Field Mapping based on Virtual Office for Real time GIS in Field Survey for Natural Environment)

  • 전통적인 자연환경조사에서 조사대상물 위치의 부정확, 조사결과와 GIS-DB 구축간에 이원화된 작업으로 인한 경제적 비효용 등이 문제점으로 지적되어왔다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제에 대한 대안을 제시하기 위해 자연환경조사 결과를 조사원이 조사현장에서 실시간으로 입·출력하는 기법의 구현과정을 보고한다. 제안된 기법은 GPS, 네트워크 컴퓨터, 이동 컴퓨팅, 착용 가능 컴퓨터 등의 최근 정보 통신 환경의 변화 동향을 바탕으로 GPS를 기반으로 하여 조사현장에서 지도를 수정·갱신할 수 있는 가상사무실 조사를 상징하였다. 본 시스템을 이용함으로써 조사원이 현지조사시 GPS를 이용하여 보다 정확한 위치정보를 확보할 수 있게 되었다. 또한 이동 컴퓨팅에 의거한 가상사무실을 이용하여 조사결과를 조사현장에서 실시간으로 GIS 데이터베이스로 구축할 수 있게 되었다. 아울러 현지조사과정에서 반영한 조사가 가능하게 되었다. 이러한 시스템이 국가차원에서 정착될 경우 조사결과의 신뢰성이 증진되어 각급 기관에서 조사한 결과의 통합·활용 가능성이 휠씬 높아질 것으로 사료된다. 본 연구가 전통적인 자연환경조사의 한계를 극복할 수 있는 계기가 되어 향후 국가전체차원의 자연환경 GIS구축이나 각급지방자치단체에서 보다 대축적의 자연환경 GIS구축을 위한 현지조사기법으로서 중요한 참고자료가 될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

국방 디지털 아카이브의 효율적 연관정보 검색을 위한 자동화된 비즈니스 서비스 식별 (An Automatic Business Service Identification for Effective Relevant Information Retrieval of Defense Digital Archive)

  • 정보기술혁명 및 네트워크 기반 정보공유 대중화는 국방 분야 디지털콘텐츠 수를 증가시켰다. 이에 따라 급격하게 그 수가 증가한 장기 보존된 디지털화된 공공정보 가운데 사용자 본인에게 적합한 공공정보를 찾는 것은 매우 중요한 문제로 대두되고 있다. 디지털콘텐츠는 원 자료의 출처 및 생산 시기에 따라 그 형태가 매우 다양하고, 디지털콘텐츠간에는 많은 상호 연관 관계가 존재한다. 비즈니스 서비스 온톨로지는 공공분야 디지털 아카이브 정보 생산자와 정보 이용자 간의 상호 지식을 명시화하고 지식을 공유할 수 있는 방안을 제공함으로써 디지털 공공정보 검색능력을 증진시키는데 많은 도움을 줄 수 있다. 비즈니스 서비스 온톨로지는 정보 생산자와 정보 이용자 간의 교량과 같은 인터페이스 역할을 수행하는 것이다. 그러나 업무 처리절차에 대한 의미 지식 추출의 어려움으로 인하여, 비정형의 업무 활동들로부터 정형화된 비즈니스 서비스로의 매핑 정보를 제공하는 비즈니스 서비스 온톨로지 자동화는 실용화하기가 매우 힘든 실정이다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하고자 본 연구에서는 비즈니스 서비스 온톨로지 구축을 위한 첫단계로써 전사적 아키텍처(ITA/EA)로부터 단위 비즈니스 서비스 식별 자동화 방안을 제안한다.
