Development of a Conservation Corrugated Box for Storage of Document Archives

  • A conservation corrugated box for storing document archives was developed. The specifications of the double-walled E-flute corrugated conservation box were modified from those of the Library of Congress, USA. The Photographic activity test (PAT) of ISO 18916 was used to ensure protection of the archival contents from adverse effects of the container itself. Accelerated aging was conducted to evaluate the conservative properties of the box components. Atomic force microscopy was also used to evaluate changes in the cellulose surface due to accelerated aging.

  • Although design process is a creative work, it includes a lot of iterations. Statistics show that about 15 to 40 percent of the total design activity is spent on time-consuming retrieval of technical informations such as standard part, handbook, engineering equation,previous design and so on. On the other hand, product structure and parts specifications change with the design process, which also need to be traced accordingly. The BOM, design history, and all the relecant technical informations can be managed can be efficiently within a unified framework called configuration. This paper presents a prototype of a configuration manager which is a part of the engineering data management system for machine tools.

Effective lengths of braced frame columns

  • In several design codes and specifications, simplified formulae and charts are given for determining the effective lengths of frame columns. It is shown that these formulae may yield rather erroneous results in certain cases. This is due to the fact that, the code formulae utilise only local stiffness distributions. In this paper, a simplified procedure for determining approximate values for the buckling loads of braced frames is developed. The procedure utilises a fictitious load analysis of frames and yields errors less than 10%, which may be considered suitable for design purposes. The proposed procedure is applied to several numerical examples and it is shown that all the errors are in the acceptable range.

  • A prototype expert system for normal concrete mix design was developed using an technical consulting system development tool, EXSYS Professional. The knowledge contained in the system was obtained from the standard specifications of Korea Concrete Institute, American Concrete Institute and from the related British Standards. The knowledge base and user interface will be expanded to cover wider scopes of the problems. If the system is successfully developed as an operational system, it will produce a great deal of economic benefits by reducing the time and money needed to obtain an expert's judgement and experience in decision making for repetitive tasks related to concrete mix proportions.

Monotonic and cyclic flexural tests on lightweight aggregate concrete beams

  • The work is concerned with an investigation of the advantages stemming from the use of lightweight aggregate concrete in earthquake-resistant reinforced concrete construction. As the aseismic clauses of current codes make no reference to lightweight aggregate concrete beams made of lightweight aggregate concrete but designed in accordance with the code specifications for normal weight aggregate concrete, together with beams made from the latter material, are tested under load mimicking seismic action. The results obtained show that beam behaviour is essentially independent of the design method adopted, with the use of lightweight aggregate concrete being found to slightly improve the post-peak structural behaviour. When considering the significant reduction in deadweight resulting from the use of lightweight aggregate concrete, the results demonstrate that the use of this material will lead to significant savings without compromising the structural performance requirements of current codes.

  • Section insulators are indispensible devices for the electric railways, which divide electrical connections between the trolley lines without losing mechanical connections, and this means that they should have both good electrical insulation performance and mechanical performance for pantograph interaction. This paper reviews some technical aspects of the several type section insulators and makes analysis of difficulties during operation. The closed type section insulators are proposed for newly electrified railways, because they have good mechanical and electrical performances for high speed trains up to 200[km/H]. Technical specifications of closed-type section insulators based on survey of the advanced technologies are provided, and also the neutral section configuration method which might be the best solution for newly electrified railways in Korea of 200km/H speed.

  • This paper presents an advanced architecture for a traffic generator capable of producing ATM traffic streams according to fully general semi-Markovian stochastic models. The architecture employs a basic traffic generator platform and enhances it by adding facilities for 'driving' the cell generation process through high-level specifications. Several kinds of optimization are employed for enhancing the software's speed to match the hardware's potential and for ensuring that traffic streams corresponding to models with a wide range of parameters can be generated efficiently and reliably. The proposed traffic generation procedure is highly modular. Thus, although this paper deals with ATM traffic, the main elements of the architecture can be used equally well for generating traffic loads on other networking technologies, IP-based networks being a notable example.

창호철물공사 하자발생 원인과 시공품질 영향분석에 관한 연구 - 문(Door)에 사용되는 창호철물 중심으로 - (Analysis of the Causes of Defects in Fenestration Construction and Their Impacts on Construction Quality - Focused on Door Hardware -)

  • 본 연구에서는 창호철물 공사의 하자발생 원인을 제도(System), 설계, 시공 3가지 측면에서 제도 미비(공사시방서 작성능력 부족등), 창호철물의 중요성에 대한 사회적 인식부족, 설계도면 작성 기술력 부족, 설계비 저가등 7가지를 도출하였다. 도출된 7가지 원인 중 창호철물 공사의 하자 발생에 높은 영향을 미치는 원인은 제도 미비(공사시방서 작성능력 부족), 설계도면 작성 기술력 부족이 각각 1순위, 2순위로 나타났다. 또한 이러한 하자발생 원인이 실제 프로젝트에서 건축사사무소와 시공사의 규모에 따라 어떻게 분포하는지와 시공품질에 미치는 영향을 분석 제시함으로써 향후 창호철물공사 하자방지 방안 마련을 위한 기초 연구를 수행하였다.

  • 무선 Docking 시스템은 기존에 설치된 모니터, 키보드 등의 별도 환경을 통하여 스마트폰 등의 이동형 컴퓨팅 장치 사용에 편의성을 제공하는 환경으로써, 사용자는 Docking 시스템이 구축된 어느 환경에서라도 자신의 이동형 컴퓨팅 장치를 다양한 주변 장치들을 활용하여 편리하게 사용할 수 있다. Docking 시스템은, 컴퓨팅 장치를 중심으로 구축된 기존 데스크탑 및 Laptop 환경과 달리, 컴퓨팅 장치를 제외한 주변 장치들로 구성되어 있다. Wi-Fi Alliance에서는 이러한 환경을 제공하기 위하여 Wi-Fi Docking 표준화를 최근 진행 중이며, 기존에 발표된 Wi-Fi Direct 표준 기술(Wi-Fi Peer-to-Peer Technical Specifications v1.2, 2010)을 활용하고 있다. 하지만, Docking 시스템에서 Bluetooth 장치를 사용할 경우 인터페이스 상이로 인하여 복잡한 Connectivity가 발생될 수 있다. 본 고에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 Wi-Fi Direct 환경에서 Bluetooth 장치 연결을 Tunneling 할 수 있는 기술을 설계하고 실험을 통하여 분석하였다.
