  • A detailed finite element modeling is presented for the simulation of the nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete structures which manages to predict the nonlinear behavior of four different experimental setups with computational efficiency, robustness and accuracy. The proposed modeling method uses 8-node hexahedral isoparametric elements for the discretization of concrete. Steel rebars may have any orientation inside the solid concrete elements allowing the simulation of longitudinal as well as transverse reinforcement. Concrete cracking is treated with the smeared crack approach, while steel reinforcement is modeled with the natural beam-column flexibility-based element that takes into consideration shear and bending stiffness. The performance of the proposed modeling is demonstrated by comparing the numerical predictions with existing experimental and numerical results in the literature as well as with those of a commercial code. The results show that the proposed refined simulation predicts accurately the nonlinear inelastic behavior of reinforced concrete structures achieving numerical robustness and computational efficiency.

  • The proliferation of devices such as tablets and smart phones, which are now used by many people in their daily lives, has led to a number of companies allowing employees to bring their own devices to work due to perceived productivity gains and cost savings. However, despite many advantage, security breaches (e.g., information leakage) can happen for various reasons (e.g., loss or theft of devices, and malicious code) and privacy breaches can happen by using personal devices for business. We should carefully scrutinize security threats in this area. We present the security threats analysis and the technical approach in this area, and discuss privacy threats and countermeasures.

  • Superalloys with many strengthening alloying elements are frequently used in powder form to alleviate harmful effects of alloy segregation. HIP (hot isostatic pressing) and DB (diffusion bonding) as a form of solid-state bonding process is often used to make turbine components, such as integrated turbine rotors. HIP/DB process requires many technical overcomes related to dimensional changes as well as microstructural control. In this research, HIP/DB process for nickel base superalloys, Udimet 720, were investigated with a view to control the dimensional change during the consolidation process. Simple disc-shaped cans were used to select the conceptual die design for the control of the dimensional change especially in radial direction. The change in the shape of consolidated shape was investigated using commercial FE code with constitutive equations for low temperature plasticity and creep deformation.

  • Inherited metabolic diseases (IMD) comprise a large class of genetic diseases involving disorders of metabolism. The majorities are due to defects of single genes that code for enzymes that facilitate conversion of various substances into others. Because of the multiplicity of conditions, many different diagnostic tests are used for screening of IMD. Molecular genetic diagnosis is the detection of pathogenic mutations in DNA and/or RNA samples and is becoming a much more common practice in medicine today. The purpose of molecular genetic testing in IMD includes diagnostic testing, pre-symptomatic testing, carrier screening, prenatal diagnosis, preimplantation testing, and population screening. However, because of the complexity, difficulty in interpreting the result, and the ethical considerations, an understanding of technical, conceptual, and practical aspects of molecular genetic diagnosis is mandatory.

  • The purpose of this study is localization of safety relief valves fur Nuclear Service through technical development with overall design, fabrication, inspection, capacity certification test and functional qualification test of safety relief valves in accordance with KEPIC MN Code(or ASME Sec.III ). The safely relief valve is the important equipment used to protect the pressure vessel, the steam generator and the other pressure facility from overpressure by discharging the operating medium when the pressure of system is reaching the design pressure of the system. But we're depending on technology of the other country up to the present time. Because we don't have our own technologies, we have been spent the great time and money on installing and repairing safety relief valve at nuclear power plant. Therefore we have to achieve the development of safety relief valves for Nuclear Service with our own technologies.

  • In a NNP (Nuclear Power Plant) severe accident, radionuclides are dispersed into the air. The official regulatory institute, KINS (Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety), has been authorized and developing Computerized technical Advisory system for the Radiological Emergency preparedness (CARE). In this paper, in line with the CARE system, we presented the result of a modularized intermediate-level emergency dose assessment computer code. The RADCON (RADiological CONsequence analysis) version 3.0, which is operable on PC, is developed for simulating emergency situation by considering continuous washout phenomena, and provide a function of effective emergency planning. The source files are coded by using C language in order to increase the compatibility with the other computer system and modularized to adjust the functions and characteristics of each module fer easy understanding and further modification.

  • Understanding the effects of the parameters affecting the interaction of tandem hydrofoil system is a crucial subject in order to fully comprehend the aero/hydrodynamics of any vehicle moving inside a fluid. This study covers a parametric study on tandem hydrofoil interaction in both potential and viscous fluids using iterative Boundary Element Method (BEM) and RANSE. BEM allows a quick estimation of the flow around bodies and may be used for practical purposes to assess the interaction inside the fluid. The produced results are verified by conformal mapping and Finite Volume Method (FVM). RANSE is used for viscous flow conditions to assess the effects of viscosity compared to the inviscid solutions proposed by BEM. Six different parameters are investigated and they are the effects of distance, thickness, angle of attack, chord length, aspect ratio and tapered wings. A generalized 2-D code is developed implementing the iterative procedure and is adapted to generate results. Effects of free surface and cavitation are ignored. It is believed that the present work will provide insight into the parametric interference between hydrofoils inside the fluid.

  • A localization system to estimate the position as well as movement direction of mobile robots is proposed in this paper. This system implements a camera fixed on a robot and color patches evenly distributed and mounted on the planar ceiling. Different permutations of patch colors code information about robot localization. Thus, extraction of color information from patch images leads to estimation of robot position. Additionally, simple geometric indicators are combined with patch colors to estimate robot's movement direction. Since only the distribution of patch colors has to be known, the analysis of patch images to is relatively fast and simple. The proposed robot localization system has been successfully tested for navigation of sample mobile robot. Obtained test results indicate the robustness and reliability of proposed technique for robot navigation.
